This Mario Party game is unlike the past Mario Party games, which is actually quite good in my opinion.Pluses+ Every character moves at once. No more having to wait for everyone to traverse the map before you go.+ The level of strategizing you need to do while traversing the board is enjoyable. It's a lot less linear, in that you can choose to go after coins or items, go after partner characters, or go for the bosses. All of these affect how many stars you get at the end, which dictate the winner. It's never a clear cut choice though. You really have to try and anticipate where your rivals will go and choose accordingly. This is my favorite aspect about the game, as it requires much more planning.+ The minigames are fun.+ The soundtrack is pleasant ... MoreThis Mario Party game is unlike the past Mario Party games, which is actually quite good in my opinion.Pluses+ Every character moves at once. It requires multiple plays to really get the hang of it, what with the new layer of strategy. Still, I definitely would recommend getting this if you're a fan of Mario party.

Better than the first Mario Party for 3DS

I bought this game for my 6 year old son. He loves the Mario Party Games. He likes this one way more than the first one that was released on the 3DS. He also plays this one more than Mario Party on the Wii U.Personally, from watching him play all the Mario Parties, the flow of the game is better and the graphics are slightly better (even though I wouldn't say Nintendo games are meant to be the most visually wow'ing).

Fun for a while but ultimately repetitive
17 January 2017

There are some fun elements to this game but it becomes very repetitive after a while. I probably enjoyed the first 15-20 hours I played of this game but then it fell flat. Without online play, this game isn't worth it for someone of my age (early 30's). This game is best for younger kids who have people in the room to play with. If not, the game becomes too repetitive.

This game seems to get a lot of medicore scores, but I think it's pretty good and worth buying if you like Mario Party games.Pros:-Minigames are fun, and theres a lot of them-5 difficulty settings-Lots of different modes, all playable with up to 3 other friends with 3DS's (not more than 1 cartridge needed)-Unlockables, including Diddy Kong, stages, and modes.-Everyone rolls their dice at the same time, making it faster paced and a game of predicting how other players are going to move-Progressive single player missions to unlock more stuff|-Balloon Rush mode is like mini-games every other turn, my biggest peeve with previous Mario Party games were playing boards and only going through like 3 minigames-Amiibo supportCons:-Maps don't have as many ... MoreThis game seems to get a lot of medicore scores, but I think it's pretty good and worth buying if you like Mario Party games.Pros:-Minigames are fun, and theres a lot of them-5 difficulty settings-Lots of different modes, all playable with up to 3 other friends with 3DS's (not more than 1 cartridge needed)-Unlockables, including Diddy Kong, stages, and modes.-Everyone rolls their dice at the same time, making it faster paced and a game of predicting how other players are going to move-Progressive single player missions to unlock more stuff|-Balloon Rush mode is like mini-games every other turn, my biggest peeve with previous Mario Party games were playing boards and only going through like 3 minigames-Amiibo supportCons:-Maps don't have as many happenings '?'/event spaces as previous games-Players have to download an app called "Party Guest" on the eshop to get the best experience. It's free, but just an extra step, not a huge con but listing anyway.

Its a me Mario Party
8 February 2017

Mario Party has a long history of bringing people together for some nice clean fun. This title falls in line with the previous titles of offering fun mini games that will make you want to keep playing. The thing that keeps this title from being in an elite class is the lack of a true game board to play on. All players move at once across the board and it leads to confusion and just an overall ok time. If you want to explore the board you can try but if another player crosses the finish line too bad you are now playing to end the level.

Not the best Mario Party, but definitely unique!
6 September 2017

When my roommate heard of this new version of Mario Party where everybody takes their turn at the same time, she was hooked. The trailers looked awesome, the gameplay looked fun, but the reviews were mixed. And I saw why. The most unique mode, Toad Scramble has you playing as the character Toad, running around checkerboard-like worlds obtaining other Mario series characters as playable allies. These allies can be lost or stolen by the other players. You also earn coins around the worlds by moving your character around, popping balloons and winning minigames. Every 10 coins obtained is exchanged for one star each, at the end of the game mode. The player with the most stars wins. This game lacks the quantity of mini games that the Mario Party series is known for. ... MoreWhen my roommate heard of this new version of Mario Party where everybody takes their turn at the same time, she was hooked. Every 10 coins obtained is exchanged for one star each, at the end of the game mode. The player with the most stars wins. This game lacks the quantity of mini games that the Mario Party series is known for. There is only one that utilizes the microphone, and 3 that require the touchscreen display. The remaining 15 minigames use the control pad and buttons, not including the "boss battles". I don't know why Nintendo thought to make "boss battles" even more simple than a mini games. The only boss battle to have a different game is Bowser, with three different simple scenarios to defeat him. The youngest of Nintendo fans could land in 1st place, even if the other NPC players were chosen to act on "Hard" difficulty. Most of the other game board types are unlockable with "Party Points", similar to experience points in any RPG. When you rank 1st place in the standard game of "Toad Scramble", you earn 200 party points. If you were able to earn enough stars equivalent to a high score, you get the :Star Rush" bonus of additional 100 or 200 party points. The top "Party Level" where everything is unlocked is 12, where you need a total of 6800 party points to reach. Alone, it may take you 20 hours minimally if you become skilled at most of the minigames. Yep, three recharges of your 3DS system and you'll nab everything this game has to offer. I still miss the old Mario Party games that play like Parcheesi mixed with UNO. Yeah, it was long and monotonous, but it's what started it all like Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros.. Pokemon had the right idea to barely change a thing throughout its series.

Redeems the franchise
30 January 2017

The past few mario party games have fallen short of the mark. Mario Party star rush finally shakes up the series in a positive way with a new mode that makes the game proceed much quicker than previous iterations. Gone are the days of waiting for others to roll the dice and move one by one, instead everyone rolls and makes their moves at the same time. This allows everyone to get to the mini games faster instead of losing interest while waiting.Another perk is the ability to share the game with other 3ds and 2ds owners, playing the game with only one cartridge! Everyone gets the full experience as it is not a watered down demo version. Highly recommend this game for anyone looking for a fun local multiplayer experience. There is no online mode for this game however.

Wooooo

Quite surprised with this one. Personally I feel like this is probably the best Mario Party when it comes to single player. (other than Advance). With 5 worlds one serving the purpose of a tutorial and a total of 15 maps based on 5 different themes. Every other Mario party averages around 1-2 hours per board but due to this games different take/formula/mechanics. I feel you really have control on how fast your games end. (Ranging to 18 minutes to an hour(dependent on map)) Again you are in control. The other Mario Party's however I feel you'll have a better time with multiplayer. Considering this one has only around 20 or so mini games. That being said there's still fun to be had with friends!
