This is a beautiful speaker that sounds great and looks the part due to its iconic Marshall amp-like style. The build quality is awesome. It's going to look great in the kitchen, the living room or the office / music room / man cave. Although it's not portable.I've not tried the placement compensation feature - but it's nice to have. The only drawback for me is that it's not a smart speaker. If you want a smart speaker, then get a smart speaker, I suppose. But if you want to listen to music from your phone/other Bluetooth devices, then this is a lovely piece of kit, which looks great on the shelf.

I got this for my husband, so here's his review...Love it. I haven't enjoyed listening to music this much since I was a youngster with a massive HiFi. Would actively encourage anyone who's always loved their music and misses their old vinyl and cd collections to get one. Would be a great present to receive.Practicalities:Everything about it is quality, from the packaging, to the switches, to the classy classic look. The black feels very rock music roadie (think I'd have preferred brown, as a jazz rat, but don't tell my wife). It's compact so can go anywhere, though the power cable isn't super-long.Tech:It links really nicely to the marshal app on my phone, so the phone is then the volume, equaliser, play/skip remote control. The sound source I used was Spotify and it created a really nice rich sound.Sound:This feels a bit weird to write, but listening to music on this speaker which I listen to all the time on other devices was hugely enjoyable. So much better than my other digital speakers or headphones. I could really pick out instruments and feel the music. It was a lot like being at a gig when I closed my eyes, daft as that sounds!I can caught myself being excited to hear different types of music on it and ended actually stopping and sitting down to listen to music, rather than just having tunes on in the background. I'm 47 and it took me back to being in my 20s again. My taste are at the jazz, funk, soul, classical end of the spectrum. The kinds of recordings that seemed to come alive most were old analogue recordings that had been digitised (like Glen Miller or Lalo Schifrin). The bass got a touch overloaded on some of the really extreme stuff up really loud, but that's the only thing I can fault it on sound-wise.I found it sounded best in a mid sized room (4m x 4m). We've got a big conservatory and whilst it sounded good, it was sensational in a close setting.Thinking of buying another one for the bedroom now.

I use this speaker in my (very messy) garden room/office to listen to music and podcasts while I'm working. It's a good looking, weighty and solidly built speaker, it deserves to be in a great looking room but until I get my act together it lives here but that doesn't mean it doesn't do a great job. The sound from it is amazing, whether it's music or speech and I like to listen to things loud so clear undistorted sound is what I need and what I get. I'm not really techie about bass etc so I haven't really explored the treble or bass controls, volume and Bluetooth are what I need. It connects seamlessly and very quickly to two different devices at the same time so I can switch between them rather than disconnecting one which just adds a little bit more convenience. I ... I have three other bluetooth speakers from very cheap to similarly priced to this one (but that one is a much smaller speaker) and they all have their place especially since they're all rechargeable and therefore portable. Which is the only drawback to the Acton as it's wired but without going into the technical specs I don't think I'd get the power from it if it wasn't wired, or at least I'd have to recharge it often. Now I just need to decide where I'll listen to it the most and find it a permanent place to live in my home.

Have tried loads of smart speakers in the past but found them to be so troublesome, frequent connection issues etc so decided to try the Marshall Acton III Bluetooth speaker. Set up was a breeze, paired it to two devices and placed the unit on the bedside cabinet. The Acton III can go loud if needed but to be honest level 3 is about as high as I need to go. Unlike smart speakers no need to go into an app to adjust the volume etc. Switching between devices is effortless and sound quality is excellent. Built like a tank and an iconic British company what more would you want?. Very happy with the purchase so far.
First things first this is a good looking speaker and feels well made. The on/off switch has a satisfying clunk and the dials feel good as well although how much you'll use them with a Bluetooth speaker is debatable. It sounds pretty good as well, plenty of bass and it goes loud. The midrange and treble are possibly a bit recessed but there are tone controls to tailor the sound to your liking. Make sure you dig into the app if you are placing it close to the wall or in a corner as there are some settings in there to adapt the sound to those locations. This does bring me to a slight disappointment that at this price level it's lacking any real smart speaker features. There's no Alexa/Siri/Google integration and no Spotify connect. Something like a Sonos 1 will do all that and have a dynamic sound truing capability to best adapt the speaker to your room and chosen placement. However the Acton has a much bigger, bassier sound and will more easily fill a big room. All in all, if you don't need the smarts and you like the looks it's a solid choice
This speaker is not built for portable use, it must be plugged in for power at all times. However, with its stylish retro look, it's a great addition to show off in any room. The sound quality of this speaker is amazing, clean and crisp and with the luxury of being able to tweak the treble or base (for those listeners with skilled ears), it allows each song to sound like a stadium performance. As well as the volume adjustment and treble and base, you can skip/play/pause from the gold controls on the top of the speaker. You can link the speaker to your bluetooth and start playing tunes straight away OR you can download the Marshall App and play through that. The only negative point about this speaker is I did not find it easy to transfer between Bluetooth pairings. ... Once I had paired my phone, my friends phone could then not detect the speaker. Tried getting my phone to forget the device but we were still unable to link it......perhaps advice from the Marshall app would assist.
I received this speaker in a free trial and have been very impressed by it. The looks are really distinctive, just like a mini version of the classic electric guitar amplifier. Some people may prefer a more minimalist look but I love it, it really makes a statement on my shelf. The speaker itself is solid and compact and beautifully made - it feels like a high quality product. I particularly love the copper coloured control panel at the top (which contrasts beautifully with the crackle black), which has solid retro style knobs for the volume, bass and treble, and a retro on/off switch. The switches are complimented by red lighting which shows the level of volume, treble etc. As well as looking great the controls are really handy - it is nice to be able to adjust the ... I also have Sonos speakers and I hadn't realised I was missing this feature until I tried the Marshall. The sound quality is very high - a warm, full sound, with a lot of power given its size, comparing favourably with the Sonos. The app was easy to download and use and the speaker was quick to set up. I haven't tried it because I don't own anything suitable, but it also has an auxiliary jack so you can connect external devices (you might even be able to use it as a guitar amp!). Overall I was very impressed - it is a premium product and it's looks really make it stand out. I would definitely recommend.
As soon as you connect with the speaker.... The difference is stark. My first thought was "I didn't know Bluetooth speakers could be this good!?!?"So many high-end speakers look like its trying to be an extra at a sci-fi film set. So it was a nice surprise to see that Marshall is rolling its own offering, without all the space-age aesthetics that don't quite fit with the home, visually sticking out and all shouty about it. Sound quality is second to none (I own Bose speakers so can confirm), looks very nice as a décor piece while not in use, and no it's not hipster. Exterior is well-made, same quality you'd expect from the other Marshall speakers you'd come to expect. Nice switches. Lights aren't intrusive. All tick boxes in my book. You won't regret this. It's now sitting nicely in my living room, but now I need to find a space to be in my kitchen to use it more often, that's how much I enjoy the experience. Connected with tablets, phones, laptops. It's all great.
Fantastic speaker of the highest quality. We've been listening to songs as if they are brand new with this speaker. This speaker makes you hear your fave songs in a whole new light. It's of the highest quality and you can instantly tell it. Our friends have spoken very highly of it since it's been an addition in our house. The retro look is timeless and is a feature by itself. Completely superb product, worth the expense. Easy to connect to devices on Bluetooth or with a cable. Altering the base and treble is a novelty but something I doubt we will often use.
This is an exceptional quality speaker that resembles a miniature Marshall amplifier. The sound is extremely powerful considering its size. The build is top notch, it has a very cool vintage style with premium controls and switches along the top where you can adjust the volume, pause, skip back and forward through tracks. The bass and treble can be adjusted to personal preference. The sound packs a punch; the volumes it can reach are pleasantly surprising and completely fill the room - it would be ideal for use at a party. It is mains powered so not really portable, which is a bit of a negative for me.I would highly recommend this speaker, would make a perfect gift for any Marshall fan.
