Marshall DSL5C Valve Combo Amplifier

Excellent customer service, no-fuss price matching and fast delivery. The amp itself delivers the warm, rich tube tones you'd expect from a Marshall. The 5w is PLENTY loud enough for home or studio use, plus you can even reduce that to .5w if you need to keep the volume way down. Features an FX loop just like the big boys as well. Brilliant sound and great value.

For home use, this amp is a beast. Great clean tones which can easily foot switch into gnarly marshall crunch. For me, this amp provides great quality valve sounds for a good price.

Amp works fine so far but I was a little disappointed when I was given the same amp that was on display for who know how long and was probably tested multiple times by other customers, for the same price listed in the website as new. I believe it's standard to apply discounts for items that have been on display and have been used in the store.

Awesome little amp with a couple tweaks

This amp sounds great with a couple of tweaks. First, remove the 100pf bright cap from the classic channel. It's C20 and is located behind the classic volume potentiometer. Clipping it out will warm up the classic clean tone and make the EQ balance better between the channels. Second, give the speaker time to break in. The more you play it the better it sounds. The highs will warm up and the bass will get deeper. This amp takes pedals well. I like some Delay and/or Reverb in the effects loop. If you want the classic channel to get some crunch at bedroom levels then put a volume pedal or simple attenuator box in the effects loop to manage the level. The Deep switch is a power amp resonance boost, which can sound muddy at high volume because it reduces negative feedback at low frequencies. The Ultra channel has a nice classic rock tone with the gain around 9 o'clock. At noon on the gain it has a nice modern lead tone. Beyond that it gets nice and heavy. I like to set it around 2 o'clock, and use the volume control on my guitar to take me from classic rock to hair metal and beyond. This amp isn't loud enough to gig with unless you raise it up on a stand to ear level and/or mic it through a PA. Overall it has great Marshall tones in a nice portable package.

Buyer Beware

Hi, Been a Big Marshall fan ever since the 70s. Had both tube and solidstate. Being I am 60 years young I know what a real Marshall made in the UK is suppose to sound like. And this ain't it. I had high hopes for a more compact amp I could use around the house. But what a dissapointment. First the clean sounds too bright and like a solid state. You have to turn it all the way up to get any crunch which still does not get there. Second the ultra sound is the worst. No crunch even at a 2 setting on the preamp. Its all distorted the higher you go, but a bad kind of unclear fizzy distortion.Also its a distortion that can't even be used for metal. I can't believe they could produce something like this an actually put it on the market. Just sold mine today.

Love the tone and depth of this amp!!!

I was very excited when I ordered this amp! Sounded great on youtube reviews! When it came in, I tested it out, and was a bit disappointed with the sound. I think it should have a better speaker in it. I hooked it up to my 4x12 Marshall cab, and wow, it sure kicks in well!!! Using it this way, it is loud enough to play live, and sounds great!!! Great amp if you have better speakers to plug it into, as it has a 16ohm output on it. So all in all, I love the tone and depth it gives!!

This amp has blown me away. Clean and drive tones are amazing and the sound when just using the emulated our with headphones is the best I have experienced. Would highly recommend this amp!

Small Marshall with effects loop

I wanted a practice / jam amp that sounded like a Marshall, had an effects loop, and was all tube. For the most part this is that amp. The only downside is good crunch tones on the clean channel don't start until you crank the amp up pretty loud. The Ultra Gain channel has a dark sound so using the preamp gain doesn't really sound like classic crunch to me but it is great for more modern tones. I tried the 1 watt setting but the bass gets REALLY flabby when you get into crunch territory. Perhaps the bass does the same thing on 5 watts but I havn't cranked it up that loud. I'm using a mod'ed Boss SD-1 to summon the classic rock soudns that I need for now. Ultimate Home Studio and Practice Amp

Honestly, I am truly blown away by this lil' monster.When you unbox this, and feel the weight and sturdiness, you know right then that this is something special.It's one of those items that nails almost all the items a guitarist would have on their "do-all" wish list.Only the Blackstar HT-5R comes close, but they can't quite nail down that true, unmistakeable Marshall tone and they don't have the 5w/1w option. We're talking tube watts here, so conventional wisdom says multiple by the rated tube wattage by 4 or 5 times for an equivalent solid state wattage. Plenty loud to annoy everyone in the house.The second issue I have, and it's very small one in my case, is that the stock 10" 10-30 Celestion speaker really does not do this amp justice. It does give a bit of that "icepick" effect unless you roll back the treble to the 2-3 range. It may smooth out over time if given a chance to break in, but I had other plans. 10" speakers will not give you that more full and bassy sound that you get out of a 12 inch, but guitar is a mid-range frequency instrument, and you do have the deep switch and bass control on this amp that allow for a more than acceptable amount of tweakability.I purchased a Celstion Greenback G10 and a Celestion G10 Gold to have versatility in my tone and it knocked my socks off in both cases when installed in this amp. The brittleness of the stock speaker was completely gone and this amp becomes the ultimate tone machine with my SSL5/CS69/CS Fat 50's strat. Both the Greenback and the Gold are nothing short of phenomenal speakers.
