As a commercial lighting designer for past 25+ years I was looking to change the lighting in my own home - specifically bedrooms. While many people prefer downlights, I find that an overall space light works better for me when the whole room needs to be lit. The Orbit Oyster is very low profile and is not intrusive with a standard ceiling height. The side profile allows for light to shine in an upward direction and place light on the ceiling to alleviate the "cave" effect which can occur with some downlights. Replaced our old one. Looks so much better flush to the ceiling and oh so bright. Bought a 2nd one for the dining room.
