Frederick, the manager at Sam Ash Las Vegas, took the time to play this and another guitar in the same general price range for me so I could hear the difference from an audience perspective. I could not believe how much better the Martin sounded, even though the other guitar was $150 higher. The setup on the one I ordered was perfect out of the box, no changes needed, and no defects of any kind on the instrument. It looks to me like Mexican Martins are becoming equal to the Nazareth product in terms of sound.I actually played it for so long the first day that I wore my middle fingernail down.The gig bag that comes with it is first quality and compact enough to easily take on the plane, unlike a lot of hard cases.Totally pleased with this product --

No matter how much you attempt to adjust it, it simply is unplayable. I am ashamed to even take it out of the bag . Martin quality control seriously blew it big time on this guitar. I own dozens of guitars and waited until my retirement to buy that Martin guitar of my dreams. This is a nightmare, not a dream. Stay away from this piece of crap . No matter what adjustment you do to the truss rod , it won’t help. Bass to treble side is extremely different. 1/4 inch on the bass side at the 12th but the treble side is marginally better. However, the S shape of the fretboard makes the guitar unplayable unless you like staying in the cowboy chord area . My Ovation, Breedlove,Fender , and Gibson acoustic guitars are brilliant examples of guitar playability. This Martin was to be my final guitar since I have only played them and never owned one . I can’t even play this piece of garbage. Martin has no dealer or authorized repair shop within 100 miles of me so I am stuck with a $900 piece of firewood. Never ever will I buy anything with that name again. That’s all they are, a name. How this got by quality control blows my mind. I have $200 acoustic guitars that are much better than this. Totally disgusted by my experience with this guitar.

I've had this guitar for a year and finally decided to write a review. My opinion of this guitar and other Road Series guitars is you cannot go wrong. I did replace the saddle with a bone saddle and set-up the guitar to my preference, but out of the box the guitar was very playable and sounded great. Overall:This is my second guitar in 45 yrs. learned guitar earlier in life on a low end model and only picked it up half a dozen times a year Retired and treated myself to this Martin D10e 9 months ago to hopefully improve and enjoy a new hobby. Researched, read reviews, you tube videos, and took a chance. I have been playing this thing every day and absolutely love the sound. I chose the large body as I think it has a very nice tone. My skill level has improved and look forward to playing every day. Martin had a wider neck which fit me. I am very happy with my purchase and zZounds fast and easy shopping/shipping.
Great service from PMT, delivered fast and without issues. The guitar was great straight out of the box though it required a re-string. I've been looking for a smaller bodied acoustic that can be picked up anytime anywhere. The build is quality great and really fun to play with the shortened neck. However I am not so impressed so far with the sound and loudness, hopefully it will mature with time.
Overall:I love this guitar right out of the box. You may order this guitar thinking you are getting a "cheap" Martin. You will lose that notion as soon as you open the box and take this guitar out of the case. It has a rich high end feel. The sound from the very first strum is deep and full. The setup is pretty much perfect right out of the box for playability and sound. The construction is exactly what you would expect from Martin. The built in tuner was a nice perk I didn't realize the guitar had. The soft case is just a nice added benefit. If you want a Martin and you don't want to spend a thousand bucks this is the way to do it. You will not be sorry. The cherry on top is how easy zZounds makes it to own this, or any guitar.
I've never ordered an instrument via mail at this kind of price before but was impressed with the delivery time (6 days from Germany)I'd done my homework beforehand on the D10 and it was exactly what I expected from a Martin. Well made, great tone, playability. The tuner is great, pick ups good and would serve you well gigging etc. For recording I'll use a couple of akg directionals. I think it's fair to say you have to get into the few £k area before you would record music you wish to release with inboard pickups etc, but the sound is great for demos/getting down ideas.Guitar isn't my first instrument and wanted to improveI seen an earlier review saying its ideal for people playing for a long time but want to move up to the next stage and further your playing. ... I have no experience with Martins HPLs, but I also know Martin wouldn't put their name on anything if it isn't well made. I prefer solid wood, so that's a great reason to chose this model for this price point, and the reason I did. That being said, this is what a great guitar should sound like. I can easily hear the way every string sounds as clear and loud as the others. I'm pretty sure this has to do with bracing and the way they build their tops. it just projects the way a guitar should, not muddy on low strings and too bright on the highs. It sounds superb, plain and simple. Clear, bright, articulate. Martin has been perfecting guitar building for almost 2 centuries now, and while this is not their top of the line guitar, it gets all the benefit of their experience in the way they're designed and built. One thing I didn't realize about Martins until after getting this, and looking at their specs on most of their guitars is they have a wider neck (1.75" width) than I'm used to. My Fender neck was more like an electric neck, both width and thickness wise. I will easily get used to this though, and may enjoy it even more in time, as I have big hands. I also love the hidden controls for the volume and tone and tuner. I love that they didn't cut a huge hole in the body of the guitar for them, very cool. I haven't plugged it in yet, but I have no doubt it'll sound good. Fit and finish are fantastic, as is the soft case they include. I would rather it have had a gloss finish, except the neck, but that's just a personal thing. It's a beautiful, well made instrument, that you should definitely put on your short list of under 1k guitars.I would definitely recommend this guitar.
This was my first Martin. Even though it's a mass produced MIM Martin I thought it would be a decently made guitar. A year after I bought it it developed several cracks on the back and sides. I own part of the responsibility. I've never stored my guitars in their case nor did I humidify my jam space. Living in Colorado, we're about as dry as you can get. That being said I've owned several acoustics, never storing them when not in use, this was the first to crack. Took it to a luthier for repairs a few months ago, the repair didn't hold. The guitar is now kindling! Since the first repair this guitar was stored when not in use, the room is humidified to 45%.

The sound on this guitar is pure MARTIN. Great bass and brilliant highs. It's made of wood not HPL which to my ear does not cut it. The D10 has a spruce top and Sapele body. It resonates like a Martin should. Frankly. either without an amp or with one the guitar will out perform anything in its class, IMO. If I could afford a high end D-28 or better I'd rather have one but given that most of us are not rich, we take the best we can afford for the money. The price is right. I'm sure Martin has its pros down there supervising every Mexican made Martin so the quality is a given. It has a built in tuner that's a nice touch. When you turn it on it mutes the line out to amp so you can tune without distracting amp sound affecting the tuner. This will probably be the last guitar I buy unless this one is stolen (I hope not). It's all I need for my limited performances and open mic sessions around town. I made one change right away: I don't know what gauge strings comes standard on the D-10E guitar but they are rather on the heavy side which affects my playing so I changed them immediately for a set of Martin custom light strings model MA130FX silk and phosphor. Not a big change in sound but easier on my fingers than the ones that comes with it. Finally, they kindly included a cloth/canvas plush lined gig bag that's fairly substantial. I wouldn't trust it in the baggage compartment of an airline but it's fine for carrying it around in your car. Free shipping helped my decision to buy from Sweetwater. It came in three days beautifully packed.
