I listened to every acoustic guitar they had in the store (BTW, this happens to be one of the finest guitar retailers around) and kept returning to the Martin. The sound is incredibly crisp, rich, full, and smooth and the guitar feels like a custom made instrument designed to fit right into my arms. Go give this guitar a try and I promise you that you will not be sorry for the effort. I have several very good guitars, but this Martin is by far the best sounding of them all. Despite the fact that I did not have to pay nearly as much for this Martin as I did for some of the other more costly guitars, they do not even begin to compare to the sound that comes out of this gem. Congrats to everyone who reads this and goes out to get one for themselves. I was sitting in the acoustic room of the local music store, just killing time, not at all thinking of buying anything, when I picked up the DX1E and began playing it. Well, an hour later the wife was on her way over with the money to buy it. ( I'm a lucky guy...she totally gets it when it comes to guitars ). The first chord I played on the DX1E was one of those moments when the sun comes out and the birds begin to sing. The acoustic tone that came out of that guitar was miles above anything else at it's price point, and it played beautifully. Now, a year later, I love it just as much as I did then. I really bought for its acoustic tone, but have come to appreciate the pickup system also. It has a very natural sound. The only thing that took a little getting used to on my part was the idea of so much man made material being used in the construction. The back and sides are some sort of wood grain looking counter top type material, the neck is a multi-ply wood laminate, and the fingerboard is also a synthetic material. None of these materials, though, seem to hurt the tone a bit. The top, the most important part soundwise, is a very nice solid spruce. Playing this wonderful guitar is a little like eating hot dogs...enjoy, but don't think too much about what went into making it.

I'm really loving this guitar. It sounds good and the set up is right on and I like the feel of the neck. I also love that I can leave it out on the stand so that it is handy to play. The electronics. are OK but I wouldn't call them great but I like how the controls are hidden and easy to access.

Use this guitar all the time. Play it at home and for my worship team on Sundays. It played alright out of the box, but bar chords were difficult. After a nice setup from my local music store, it plays and sounds 10 times better. Highly recommend a setup
Great first guitar! I’m just starting out learning to play - my first attempt was with a $60 secondhand special and was so frustrating. This guitar sounded beautiful on the first day and has made learning an absolute joy.
What can one say its a Martin at a great price that plays and sounds superb so much so my electric guitars are starting to collect dust ?? love it cant put it down. no more fiddling in sound holes to change the battery great.
Just what I was looking for. I have DXAEBlack but it is damaged and I have tried in vain to get a replacement, but could not find another guitar with the sound I wanted. Anderton’s allowed me to buy the DX1E, change the strings to ensure I got the sound I wanted. Actually, order on. Tuesday, received on Wednesday, changed strings Thursday, Happy Bunny. Anderton’s said that if I changed the strings and still did not get the sound I wanted, I could return it.But, I’m keeping it!
This guitar was purchased as a gift for my teenage daughter. She started playing my 1975 Guild and is now taking a guitar class as an elective in High School. So I decided it was time for her to have her own acoustic and with the electronics built-in for tuning and amplification. Sounded like a great idea. It does look different than traditional acoustics out of the box. No banding and a flat finish. But as soon as she strummed, the natural voice of this guitar just lit up the room. No electronics plugged in. The action is fine, great strings, clean, comfortable shape. This is a win win. An upper affordable guitar that she will take with her throughout her life along with its memories. And now she comes home from school and heads straight for the guitar instead of ... MoreThis guitar was purchased as a gift for my teenage daughter. THAT is even better!Love the Fishman electronics! It is a great feature to have electronic tuning built in for people learning to play. Even me - I get a little lazy as I get a little older. This is not an inexpensive guitar. So, for the money, considering there is a great deal of man made material in lieu of solid precious woods I figured there has to be a way to engineer a great sound. CFMartin did just that. I just hope the materials are as durable as the real woods over a long period of time. It is a very impressive piece of craftsmanship.Certainly more expensive than alternatives like the DX1AE, Fender T-Bucket, Yamaha, Applause and so on. For the money we could have purchased a Dean but frankly the CFMartin name means a lot. Wish it was made in USA instead of Mexico. The commute from the Rio Grand to Pennsylvania has to be a killer! lol
Confession! I just started guitar lessons last November at age 68! This is so mellow sounding and so beautiful it is making lessons and practice so enjoyable. It is never too late to learn something new that brings personal satisfaction and enjoyment to daily life. I highly recommend this lovely I instrument to anyone wanting to making music a part of their life.
This acoustic guitar sound is deep, but clear. The electronics are tight so there is no added noise and the build is solid. I am a bass player that was looking for a good tool for songwriting and this guitar is easy to play and begs to be played. Also, great for live acoustic performances.
