Martin Standard Series Reimagined HD-35 Natural
Martin's HD-35 stands as one of the company's most coveted acoustic guitars, representing a masterful evolution of the iconic D-35 design. This exceptional instrument features the classic three-piece back construction that made its predecessor legendary, whilst incorporating modern enhancements that push its performance to new heights. The 2018 revamp brought significant improvements to this rare guitar, including scalloped top braces that enhance tonal response and a modified low oval neck profile with narrow taper for superior playability. These updates ensure the HD-35 meets the demands of contemporary players without compromising its traditional character. Crafted with a premium spruce top paired with East Indian rosewood back and sides, the HD-35 produces the pure Martin tone that has defined acoustic excellence for generations. The herringbone trim around the top perimeter and bound fingerboard add visual elegance, while the three-piece back construction contributes to the instrument's notably strong bass response that sets it apart from standard dreadnought guitars.

The box arrived that was originally sealed with big copper staples by Martin. I carefully opened the box, removed the case with guitar. I open the case not knowing what to expect as it was bought sight unseen. I open the case and was immediately hit with the smell of rosewood while my eyes gazed upon a gorgeous flawless work of art. I removed the guitar, tuned it up and was swept away with the huge, harmonically-rich tone. The action was absolutely perfect out of the case (low). It was so comfortable to play I thought the strings were light gauge 11's, but a micrometer confirmed they were medium 13's.The only thing I will swap out is the bridge pins and end piece. They are plastic. I will replace them with bone or titanium. If you do the same, make sure that the ... MoreThe box arrived that was originally sealed with big copper staples by Martin. The last time I owned one was in 1985. The great quality is still the same. What a great guitar from a great company!

A very, very good guitar. I'm not going to throw out a bunch of superlatives about this guitar, there is no real need to, and if you have ever played one you know it's the real deal. If you are looking to buy a top-end solid wood construction acoustic, the Martin HD-35 should probably be on your short list. I'm not sure you could get anything much better for vocal accompaniment, and that was my main attraction to it. Tonally, it is well balanced, with excellent response from soft to heavy dynamics. Nicely compliments the brighter sound of my duet partner's Taylor. A little more pricey than some models but you might want to give one a try. I absolutely love mine.

In 1974 a friend of mine got a '65 Brazilian rosewood HD-35 for Christmas. I have wanted one ever since. I have played for 50 years and owned many fine instruments, all the names you know. IMHO this is the BEST acoustic guitar made by anyone! It's drop-dead beautiful, sounds extremely deep and rich, plays like butter, and being all-solid-wood, ages very well. Truthfully it is also a source of great pride of ownership, always recognized by those who are "in the know" about fine guitars. It IS expensive (and how!) but worth every penny. I suggest waiting for the 48-month, no-interest financing.

I was constantly told that Sweetwater is the best customer service in the music business. I spoke with my rep Adam and he was patient with all my questions. This guitar can hum softly or boom like a cannon if you dig into it. I just can't wait to have the wood open up to really hear the guitar come to life every time you play it!
I picked up one a couple of years ago. I have since started collecting and have bought a several that were considerably more expensive. Not one of the higher end guitars sounded better, perhaps different, but not better. If I had to pick one, the D-35 would be the one. I highly recommend.
I could not be happier with my recent purchase of a Martin HD-35 acoustic guitar. I am convinced that Martin is the best guitar manufacturer in the world, and I did alot of research (over 6 months) on the particular guitar that would be best for me. There were three HD-35s available at the time of my purchase, and I was thrilled that Derek White at Musician's Friend played and reviewed them all for me prior to my telephone purchase. Based on his helpful review, I was able to purchase a truly amazing instrument that I believe will be my friend for life.
I am 55 and I've been playing for over a year and have a Taylor Academy. I tried many guitars in this price range. I even did a blind listen test and the Martin stood out above them all. The tone and resonance of this thing is so clear pleasing to the ear. It's a lot bigger than my Taylor and not as comfortable, but I have adjusted to the size. This was a good decision and no regrets. Now I have to get nylon string guitar to add to the burgeoning collection...lol
The HD-35 is the most lightly built of the Martin dreadnoughts, and is ideal for the solo player who wants great tone and a powerful bass response. The tone is classic Martin, and the powerful bass allows one to emphasize rhythm. This dreadnought is surprisingly responsive to fingerstyle and light flat picking, yet gives a much stronger bass response than a smaller guitar. If you are a heavy strummer using medium gauge strings, and/or play in a band with a bass player, you may be better off with a D-28, or other more heavily built guitar, with less bass response. If you are a soloist with less interest in rhythm and bass response, and place maximum value on note separation, a smaller instrument may be a better choice. I am totally happy with mine. My favorite strings for this one are light gauge 80/20 bronze.
After playing guitar for almost 50 years, I finally obtained a job that afforded me the opportunity to purchase, what has turned out to be, the best sounding guitar I've owned. She is so responsive to how you play, dig in for more volume, ease up for someone else's lead.. she does not disappoint. I'm in awe every time I play it. Even my picking buddies are blow away by her. Saddle was a little high, but after a good set up, she plays like she sounds...beautiful.
It seems you can't get a Martin Warranty outside USA/Canada - very disappointing. Beautiful guitar for all that. Although I wonder what happens if it cracks or breaks. Taylor provides excellent after-sales by comparison in my opinion.
