I’ve always disliked how sweet electrolyte drinks are. Especially on hot days the sweet flavor never quenches thirst. Maurten is great because the flavor is extremely mild while being gentle on the stomach and gives me the extra boost I need. The one thing I don’t get about it is that it never seems to dissolve well - it sinks right to the bottom and after my run there’s always a small layer crusted to the bottom of the bottle.

I have been suffering from GI issues for the last 2 years now. It is debilitating once it hit, and almost certainly turns my long distance races (30K - 100K) into absolute nightmares! I tried various "real food" gels, real food, other gels, drink mixes....0% success. After 4-8 hours depending on the effort, my race was pretty much over, and it was either a crawl to the finish or a DNF. After being introduced to Maurten, I was quick to realize it was going to work for me. First, I could handle the taste. It it very mild, and me being so sensitive to taste after 4 hours+ of maintained effort, this is already a massive hurdle overcome. Though it needs to be supplemented with electrolyte tablets over longer distances (as it only really provides energy), otherwise tend to suffer from cramping. The combination of both, topped off with extra water to avoid dehydration (I run in warm humid weather), it's a match made in heaven!

During training the mix was fine. All of my training happens on the east coast without much elevation. I just finished the Tahoe Trail 50k which is at a much higher elevation and the mix just caked to the bottom of my bottles. I got very little product through our the race and I definitely felt it. Had to cut my race short as I wasn’t getting what I needed. Adding pics of what I pulled out of my bottles. That is not a small spoon. It’s a ladle.

I tried this a couple months ago and was impressed in the gel technology. The drink is very fast absorbing and really gives that boost that no other sport drinks give. However working in the organic industry, I wish to see this product use a better quality sugar similar to what we see in Untapped's Mapleaid. To see the main ingredient, maltodextrin, be derived from corn is very concerning. Nearly 90% of all US corn is GMO meaning it can be doused in pesticides and herbicides. With this known it is shocking to not see any certification stating the product or maltodextrin is organic or at least non GMO. Essentially the Maurten products along with lots of other sports nutrition products use poor quality ingredients while charging ridiculous prices. One would better off buying any type of candy from the gas station if they wanted the same quality. In the future I hope to see the technology Maurten has be integrated with the minimal processed ingredients that high performance athletes desire.

Amazing Energy Source

This is a great product for those that arent great at endurance nutrition. For me its an hours worth of carbs and salts, which means long periods without fussing about meeting my fuel goals, just sip away and keep running. The only minor issue, it can be difficult to mix consistently, especially in soft flasks. That's not enough of a deterrent to stop me from coming back, it's my new race-day fuel.

Excellent for long runs
22 April 2022

I used this for the Dorset Ooser Trail Marathon after hearing Becky Briggs say how much it helped her for Manchester Marathon. I didnt know it turns in to a gel like consistency which had me a little shocked at first when i sipped it from my hydration bag. I found it a little too thick so I will mix a little more water next time than recommended. I felt its more comfortable to run with on the back and also felt like i hadnt taken on too much water. It wasnt uncomfortable on the belly and no side effects. I didnt feel a need for the gels i took with me. Im very impressed and i recommend it to anyone.

Great way to try maurten
15 August 2022

I'd had maurten once, years ago when I picked up a single sachet; that wasn't the best way to try it wasn't able to evaluate the effectiveness but this is. A pack of 9 lets you try in your training a couple of times and then use on race day. It's a neutral taste and very easy on the stomach, I'd used tailwind and mountain fuel before and found this much easier to drink. For me it was my emergency food for the recent North Downs Way 100 as had other things I was planning to be eating and drinking but in the heat I couldn't face regular food and maurten was all I needed to get me through to the finish, just sipping regularly was an instant boost. So glad I though to have it with me and in my drop bags.

With all-natural ingredients, and no added colour or flavour, Maurten Drink Mix 320 is easy to drink. It does taste sweet, which is understandable, and has a thicker consistency to normal sports drinks; somewhere between a drink and a gel. However, the taste and consistency are massively more preferable to sickly gels or solid food, especially late in a long ultra.I tested Maurten in tough event conditions, the Country-to-Capital Ultra and it was first-rate. I definitely felt the difference and around 10-15 minutes I felt I had the energy I started with and my legs rejuvenated. I did suffer GI distress post race but then I do with every energy powder and is consistent with running close to lactate threshold for 30+ miles. I wouldn't attribute it to the Maurten. Each sachet when mixed with water makes up a 500ml bottle, and delivers an impressive 80g of carbs. To give a rough comparison, some leading brand energy gels contain 45 - 50g carbs. In a race vest where weight to carbs ratio is vital, Maurten is a step above the competition. The packets are easier to open than rivals like Tailwind or GU Roctane, and can be simply emptied into a soft flask, provided the opening is wide enough.

The best

Taken a while to try Maurten, wish I’d tried it sooner. Whilst it’s not the cheapest it has a really palatable taste, it isn’t sickly and it works a treat. The 320 is spot on for big efforts and long runs. Easier to take than a gel and better than tailwind. I’ve been taken 1 and hour over long runs (ultra) with no issues at all. Really impressed!

Versatile Energy Drink

I've been using this for a while now.Firstly by itself as directed on the packet. Its a bit bland with a fine paste/ gel like texture. Goes down well with no complaints, just bland. The second use has been to mix it on-top of the normal Torq energy drink (two scoops in 500ml) at it's lower (160) rate, effectively having a double dose. I struggle to drink the 500ml/hr that torq recommends, so by mixing the two products together you end up with a higher carbohydrate drink, which is not excessively sweet (no sweeter than standard torq) and easy on the stomach. From fast 4hr races to 24hr endurance slogs, that double mixture has served me well. Enabling me to keep the carb content up with less liquid intake, less eating (gels/bars) and zero stomach discomfort. The only ... MoreI've been using this for a while now.Firstly by itself as directed on the packet. It mixes fine with hard (350mg/l) water in the SE. Having tried it on artificially softened water / brita filtered water and bottled water i can't see/taste any difference. Potentially there is a chemical reason for the difference, but its not visibly noticeable and i find that it mixes better than traditional drink powders.
