These tires make for a fair commute on pavement and they give enough stability for good speed on rough trails, but I wouldn't enjoy more than 15 miles of pavement at a time on these. Although these don't prevent crashes on snow-packed severe grades at night, they do provide enough traction to really test your bike and abilities. Their reliability is good, even in rocky terrain, and in goathead country I never rolled over anything that Orange Seal couldn't fix with these tires, but I cannot yet speak to their longevity as I haven't ridden more than a couple hundred miles on them. After doing everything from evening jaunts around the neighborhood to adventures gone wrong, these tires helped me get lost and back to safety (and they did a good job of it too). They handle mild mud and wet grass only as well as your skills do, but they are no match for Owyhee peanut butter mud (nothing is). These tires would complement some slicks pretty well if you're the type to switch tires for different uses, but I wouldn't go for much more tread on a gravel bike. You know I like the Maxxis Rambler tires because I rambled about them ;)

Great looking tires that handles pavement, gravel, light mud really well. Has a good supple feel on the gravel that sucks up jolts to body. Just enough Fred in it that it does great on cornering with loose stuff. Great tire!

Ran 650b x 47mm on a 200km bikepack this past weekend, over mix of pavement, loose gravel, grass, light mud. Tires handle very well, good grip and comfort, decent rolling resistance. Set up tubeless and running 32-36psi, no leaks or sealant weeping. Bought a second set in 700c x 38mm for my second set of wheels. Very happy with these tires compared with the Panaracer Gravelkings which leak constantly.

As stated I love these tires, the set up, the tread pattern, the durability of the casing and overall performance are exceptional! But I just wish they lasted longer for the type of riding that i do. Additionally it would be fantastic if there was a taller knobs offering in this tread pattern. I'm located in Northern California and the trails we ride are not traditional gravel for the most part it is technical single tack and some fire roads. I believe the taller knobs would assist with some of our crazy steep and loose climb's and also improve the lifespan of the tire. (currently only getting about 3-400 miles on the rear, and about double that for the front). They are they are my go to tire and will continue to be for the forseable future. Between my wife and I, we've ridden four sets of the 700x40c 120 TPI EXO Ramblers. We love the traction they provide on lose gravel, while also being light weight, long wearing and fast rolling. My only complaint is that every tire has had leaky sidewalls, when run tubeless. Eventually I've been able to get them to hold air well enough, by adding sealant and letting them sit on each side for a time. I've had to switch to a tire that holds air better for endurance rides like the 240 mile Day Across Minnesota. Also, I'd love a Tan Wall option in a 120TPI 700X40C EXO. Do that and fix the leak and you'd have a perfect gravel tire for just about anything!
I specifically purchased these tires for SBT GRVL (140+ miles gravel race in Steamboat Springs, CO), and believe me, they did not disappoint. They were an excellent choice for that race. The course pretty much threw every type of terrain at you; pavement, hero gravel, small pebble hard packed gravel, chunky gravel, loose deeper gravel, double track, etc., and these tires handled all of it flawlessly. I will be running them at future gravel races and will purchase them again when it's time to replace.
Southeast Michgan Gravel - Changed front tire from a 45mm gravel king to the 50mm Maxxis Rambler with a goal of lower pressure and smoother ride. Sweet spot seems to be 18 psi and I weigh 190 lbs.Very pleased with the softer ride and it rolls really well, even on the asphalt. Highly recommend.
I’ve been trying for a full year to make my gravel bike tubeless using these tires. I’ve taken it into two shops. Still, these tires are so loose that the bead will not hold, and I’ve replaced them thinking maybe it was just a factory defect. The only time the bead will hold is when a tube is inserted!
Very good for both off-road / dry trails as well as long 34 miles around lake on mixture of paved and crushed limestone. Minimal road resistance - Able to easily reach 20+ mph on straight / level path (non-motorized heavy off-road 29 inch hardtail) and average 16 mph+ on gently rolling hills. Provides good traction on shorter, steep and winding trails / occasional large rock / stumps. May not be enough traction if trail is not totally dry in shady areas / or facing steeper and longer inclines. Acknowledged trade-off as I tend to be riding more paths than trails.Only detraction is fact that one of the "puncture" resistant tubes appears to have a slow leak. Not sure if caused by tire failing to protect tube more. Lighter tire without as much tread as original tires / may have sacrificed some protection although tire was rated specifically against sticks / rocks. Did not observe rolling over any other sharp objects like glass or nails.
800+ miles on them thus far. 1 flat thanks to a thorn stuck in the tire. 100s of pin holes without a flat. i tried to convert to tublesss which is how i realized how many micro holes i put in it. fast rolling and great on hard packed and just good enough to use on anything thats not a full blown mountain bike trail. i love these tires and they have totally transformed my bike. once these are overly worn out ill be getting another set.
