A revelation on my breastfeeding journey!

Thanks to the Stellar Product Testing Panel for providing me with this breast pump accessory. I'm delighted with these cups, they're really effective and practical! I was pleasantly surprised at how effective they were and how easy they were to use on a daily basis. I use them every day because I work in my office at the university and I use them on my morning break, as well as my afternoon break. I have the Medela Quick Clean Micro-Steam Bags and the two cups fit easily inside, so I don't have to use two bags to disinfect the bottles like I used to. As I have the Swing Maxi cordless breast pump, I can move around my office, and with the cups it's even more discreet! I used to hold the bottles with my hands and had seriously considered buying a Medela bustier before I got these cups. And I'd even thought about giving up pumping because it wasn't very glamorous to walk around with two bottles on my breasts... This is my second baby, my first daughter is 6 and I remember how difficult it was to pump milk for a long time. But these cups changed my project for the better! The cups are easy to assemble, and the fact that there are only 3 clearly identifiable parts makes it simple to separate them and put them back together for the next session. The O-ring insulation works very well, I didn't know that it could be removed occasionally to clean them, but after reading the instructions carefully, I learned that it wasn't necessary to remove them every time. Which is very convenient. My favorite thing about these cups was the way the cups fit easily into a bra. It takes a bit of getting used to the style you have in order to adjust it, but once you do it works like a charm. What's also practical is that the top of the cups have a spout that makes it easy to pour the milk into containers. I would have liked to have a way of closing the cups, at least temporarily, as I've already had the problem of forgetting a container to put my milk in, if the cups could be closed like baby bottles (or with a small accessory, that would have been a plus!). Otherwise, I'm very happy to have them now, and it encourages me to pump milk for my daughter for as long as possible.

There are only three pieces to put together and clean, which means that it doesn’t take long to wash and let dry. There is an O-ring to seal the larger cup pieces together, but it stays in place for cleaning.Actual usage was a dream! I didn’t encounter any leaks, even when leaning forward or picking up my kiddos (including a wiggle toddler and less-wiggly infant). I did, however, have a bit of spillage when trying to transfer the milk from the Collection Cups to a storage bottle the first time. Once I got the hang of the angle to pour, I didn’t have that issue again. The only other down-side is that I couldn’t easily do any manual breast compressions while pumping. I find that I can fully empty when I do some compressions, but I suppose that’s the trade-off for being truly hands-free.Overall, I loved that the Medela Hands-Free Collection Cups gave me the best of both worlds – truly hands-free pumping while still having great suction with the Medela pump I already owned! I should note – I was given this breast pump accessory to try as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel. These opinions, however, are entirely my own.

Definitely Hands-Free

I recently had the opportunity to test out the collection cups as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel, and I've been using it alongside my Freestyle. One of the standout features of this product is how seamlessly the cups integrate with my nursing bra. It's a game-changer for multitasking, as I can comfortably go about my day while ensuring I'm still pumping efficiently. As someone who's into power pumping to boost output, this product has become an essential part of my routine. However, I've noticed a minor setback that seems to be common with many pumps I've used—the cups tend to shift around when I'm on the move and start to sweat. This snug fit issue affects the overall suction, leading to a less effective pumping session. It's worth noting that I've experienced this with other pumps as well, so it's not unique to this product. It would be great if the manufacturers could address this challenge and come up with a solution that maintains the snug fit even in sweaty conditions. The components that come with the collection cups are impressive and fit me perfectly. Cleaning is a breeze too, thanks to the design that allows easy access to every nook and cranny. I appreciate the attention to detail in this aspect. While the moisture issue due to heat is a concern, it doesn't overshadow the product's overall convenience and effectiveness. I would still recommend the cups to fellow breastfeeding moms, as it offers a level of convenience that makes pumping more manageable in busy schedules. It has the potential to be a game-changer for nursing moms who are looking to pump more efficiently. Its integration with the Freestyle and comfortable fit in nursing bras are its standout features. Although there's room for improvement in addressing the moisture-related fit issue, the convenience, ease of cleaning, and overall performance make it a product worth considering.

I have been an exclusive pumper for all three of my kids now and have to say these collection cups are long overdue! I have always preferred Medela and was excited to try these collections cups when I was offered to try them through a stellar product testing panel. Sanitizing and cleaning is reasonably easy for hands free collection cups and is made quicker with small brushes to fit into the little corners. As with many Medela products it was comparable with my freestyle pump and was a smooth and easy setup/ transition from the regular setup. I found them comfortable and easy to place and honestly is a set it and forget it. I have a very busy toddler so knowing I could walk around and pick up my baby when needed without worrying about knocking the protruding collecting cups has eased my stress and anxiety around fitting in my pumping sessions. It has also been so nice feeling more covered up and can comfortably have a sweater on over the cups for when it’s chilly and I’d like to be more covered up. Of course there are still limitations so try not to bend over too much or jump around as this could cause leaking. That being said I never experienced any leaking at all. These fit nicely and easily in all of my nursing bras so no additional items or accessories needed. The capacity is great, it lists up to 5 ounces though I have collected more and had no issues. Emptying the cups is easy and I love the flat bottom so they can sit on the counter while you get a bottle ready. Overall this is a huge upgrade from having to use the hands free bra/cover and has made my pumping routine so much easier and my toddler has been enjoying getting in some more one on one time together.

Favorite Wearable Cups

For anyone that's looking for a rather discrete, simple and comfortable option to go hands-free while pumping -- look no further! You're now looking at one of the better options that's out now. To caveat, I AM an exclusive pumper, which means I spend a lot of time pumping and washing pump parts every.single.day. This doesn't even include the bottles for feeding, but I digress. These cups are single-handedly the only reason I am still saying sane now that I am 6mo postpartum. While I do have and use the typical flange set-up while home, I now exclusively use these cups whenever we go out (I haven't touched my other wearables since I got these). These cups have THREE parts to wash -- yes, THREE. And no little pieces that require a special brush to get into the little nooks and crannies. Assembly is quick, and they're super lightweight while wearing them. They're not ridiculously large like some wearables (though yes those require motors while this one has tubing involved) but for us larger-chested women, I don't need to have things protrude out even more. This is also important to allow me to pick up and hold my baby without her affecting the pump session. I use these a lot especially while I'm in the car (both as passenger and driver) and have never had issues with it interfering with me holding the wheel or the seatbelt path. Now I do have the Freestyle Flex hands-free, so I do have the original cups that came with the pump. These ones are SLIGHTLY different. The cup is a little smaller in size and the closing "click" is now buffered out from the inclusion of an O-ring now. The manual does say you do NOT need to wash the O-ring each time, so it is still 3 parts to clean. I only removed it once when I first washed and sterilized everything, and haven't touched it since. I also do use these with my regular 19mm inserts that I use with my regular flanges too and have had no issues. My output is the same relative to when I use my workhorse pump at home. Pouring the milk out afterwards is super simple from the little spout, and the cups do stand up on their own if you set them down (so havent had any issues of milk spills here!)I really do recommend these collection cups for anyone looking for an alternative solution to hard plastic flanges. Yes these cups are hard plastic too, but they're comfortable and sometimes I forget I'm even wearing them. They've given me the ability to go out and about with my children and still manage pumping without having to worry about being engorged or clogs. I was given this breast pump accessory to try as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel. However, even if I wasn't -- I for sure would've purchased this extra set to have as a quick back-up to the ones I already own. They are SO worth it.

Light and easy to use but could use more sizes
7 August 2023

I was given this breast pump accessory to try as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel. The cups are very light and don't feel like wearing anything obstructive whenever pumping. These also have less parts, compared to my previous set of breast shields and accompanying connectors, making it quick and easy for setup and disassembly after every pumping session. Additionally, with less parts, I feel like I can collect more breastmilk as I feel milk doesn't get stuck on the membrane and other connections.Additionally, I like how I can use it with whatever bra I'm currently wearing, compared to my previous set which required a pumping bra. This is actually my favourite part of having these! This is actually my favourite part of having these! I don't have to change to a pumping bra whenever I need to pump just to make it hands-free.Personally, I wouldn't consider using this product outside of my home because the shape and size isn't very discreet for smaller breasted moms and won't look natural when worn outside. In terms of usage, it is difficult to see through the collection cups. I was unsure if my nipple was aligned and centered every time I pump. I had difficulties during the milk collection process as some milk would get stuck and drip out the flange whenever I pour milk into a bottle. This still occurs even after tilting forward with the motor still running (as per Medela's support instructions).Lastly, I wish there were smaller flange options for better suction and milk collection. I am already using the smaller of the two provided options (21mm) and do not feel fully comfortable with the fit for better suction. Unfortunately, there are no other alternatives for now.Overall, I recommend these for their ease of use as well as their easy assembly and clean up.

Reviewing the Medela Hands-free Collection Cups
7 August 2023

Overall, I am very satisfied with this product. They were very effective and extremely convenient. I am an exclusive pumper and therefore own two pumps. For my at home pumping I use my Medela freestyle flex and was using my S12 momcozy when needing to pump on the go.I have a large oversupply and therefore pump multiple time a day. The momcozy would not empty me properly and therefore I had to travel with both pumping systems. I was given the Medela Hands-free Collection Cups breast pump accessory to try as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel. The new collection cups allowed me to feel confident that I was emptying my breasts as the momcozy were not sufficient (motor was not strong enough). The new collection cups allowed me to feel confident that I was emptying my breasts as the momcozy were not sufficient (motor was not strong enough). I found the momcozy’s very loud and bulky (they are shaped like a bowl) and my Medela freestyle is much more discreet thanks to the quietness of the motor and the Hands-free Collection Cups shape (shaped like a breast) . I was actually able to pump during a work meeting without colleagues noticing. I would not have done this with my momcozy’s.Due to my large supply, I would fill up the cups and therefore would ensure to stay seated upright. However I can see for someone with a smaller supply, the collection cups might allow you the bend forward a little and give you more flexibility to move around.I found the Medela Hands-free Collection Cups much easier to clean and put together compared to the momcozy’s. The Medela Hands-free Collection Cups are much more forgiving than the momcozy’s when it comes to re assembly. I had multiple messes with the momcozy’s from not putting the pieces on perfectly right. I did not get any issues with the Medela Hands-free Collection Cups. I really appreciated how you did not need to remove the o-ring attachment at every cleaning session. There are in total only 3 pieces to clean which is amazing compared to my momcozy’s that has 5 pieces. I also loved how the Medela cups fit perfectly in my Advent microwave sterilizer and the plastic did not get affected by the heat of the microwave.I do have to mention that I wish Medela had smaller flange sizes. With my Momcozy’s I was able to purchase size 17mm flanges however, Medela flanges only start at 21mm. Flange sizes are so important. I unfortunately was unable to always resort to the Medela collection cups because the large flange sizes would bruise my areola’s but for on the go discreet pumping a few (1-2) times a day these were fantastic!I would definitely purchase these and recommend them to all of my pumping friends!

Such an improvement over traditional pumping assem

The Medela Hands-free Collection Cups are such a big step up from the traditional pumping assembly that sit outside of your bra, and give me back some freedom while pumping! To start, you no longer need a special pumping bra and you're not stuck with the awkward barrier of collection bottles hanging in front of you with the possibility of being knocked.Although I still found it easiest to sit while pumping (the weight of the pump I have itself is pretty heavy, so it's a bit awkward to move around with) I could still hold my baby, fold some laundry, eat or let's be real... scroll on my phone MUCH more comfortably than before.I found the suction much better than the traditional assembly, and definitely more comfortable to wear. I found with the traditional flanges, if my pumping bra wasn't snug enough, it felt like the suction wasn't great - especially if I ever bumped the assembly. These also produced the same milk output, if not more, than the traditional assembly thanks to the better suction. My one complaint is that I did find them a bit intimidating to get started with - the box said my pump was compatible, but only showed an image of the newer "Freestyle" pump I wasn't sure if I could use my pump at first (I could!). I also found the flange difficult to attach - it didn't feel like the smaller flange included "clicked" into place like it should, so I was concerned about leakage or an improper install. That being said, cleaning them is a breeze and I love that it's fewer parts - just 3 parts per cup (the flange, membrane and cup itself).Overall, highly recommend over the traditional pumping assembly - so much less awkward, more comfortable, better suction and easier to clean! Thanks to the Stellar Product Testing Panel for providing me with the cups to test and review!

Way better than bottles
5 August 2023

When my son was born I was using a pumping bra and bottles and absolutely dreaded pumping. Despite having a portable pump, I would just stand in the bathroom to pump because I hated the feeling of walking around with the bottles sticking out of my chest. The feeling of pumping combined with bottles dangling off me was just sensory overload when I was already at my sensory limit with a newborn. So I quit pumping and would just hand-express a bottle here or there when needed. These hands-free collection cups totally changed my relationship with pumping and ability to get a (tiny) bit of time for myself with an exclusively breast fed baby. These hands-free collection cups totally changed my relationship with pumping and ability to get a (tiny) bit of time for myself with an exclusively breast fed baby. If I had these from the start it would have been amazing, it actually makes me sad to think about because exclusively breast feeding without bottles is so so hard! Being able to pump without changing into a pumping bra means that I actually am willing to pump when I have a spare minute. The cup is relatively easy to clean. (Cleaning pump parts is never going to top my list of fun things to do, but the cups are just as easy to clean as bottles). I did have to play around with the cups a bit to figure out how to open and close them easily - there are videos on the Medela site that are quicker to watch than reading the instructions. I also liked that they came with two flange sizes. I've been alternating between the 21mm and 24mm to see which gives better output and it seems like the smaller size works better for me right now. I was given this breast pump accessory to try as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel but I know how much of an investment pumps and pump parts are (especially since you can't return or resell them) and these cups are totally something I would recommend to friends or buy again.
