Having tried, all manner of boots, shoes and various types of sports shoe, for the second year I have worn the New Balance Hierro shoe with Vibram sole for a 100km walking event on tarmac, concrete and trails. The shoe performed fantastically, again, and in combination with twin skin socks resulted in zero rub points, zero blisters and overheating or moisture issues regardless of higher than average temperatures. The heal cup fitted perfectly keeping the shoe connected to just the right extent and complimented by the stability and flex within the footbed of the shoe. The outer material was superb in managing moisture control but remained brilliantly supportive with just the right amount of movement available throughout the event to maintain side/width support ... Highly recommended 👍

Lucky me, these are a pair of shoes, unlike some others that I have purchased, that immediately feel just right. I do both trail running and several days at a gym per week. The shoes work for me with a variety of different types of exercise. Must admit that initially I bought these shoes for the way that they look. At the gym I notice, that shoes are sort of a trademark, people definitely use shoe apparel as one way of expressing themselves. Functionality should always come first but it helps to have a pair of lookers on your feet.

These shoes are very very comfortable! As long as you are use to 8mm heel stack then you’re fine. Also the toe box is wider than any of the brooks I tried on. My issue was I was not use to the 8mm heel stack and couldn’t get use to it for standing around at my job. I usually buy two pair of shoes. One for hiking and one for daily use. As someone who is coming from Altra, I wanted to find a shoe that lasted longer. If you know altra, you know they have never been reliable. Mine never got more than 150miles on them before the midsole flattened. These are a GREAT alternative to altra if you can get use to the heel stack. I myself went with the speed goats due to them being 4mm. BUT I am going to try to transition up to these. Yes that fresh foam is just so nice and ... MoreThese shoes are very very comfortable! And that Vibram tread is so grippy and tough.

I mostly like these shoes. I initially had some trouble with heel lockdown in my normal size, which surprised me because I’ve run predominantly in New Balance for years. (Disclosure: I bought these as everyday sneakers for winter use, not for trail running.) I was eventually able to resolve the heel slippage through lacing, though the shoes’ overall fit is quite a bit roomier throughout the shoe than New Balance’s road running shoes like the 880 or 1080. These are extremely comfortable with lots of midsole cushioning and a great Vibram outsole that provides excellent grip on a wide variety of surfaces, wet and dry. I’ve trimmed the threads, but I’m really hoping these shoes hold up over time.
I've mainly worn these for casual wear and some walking but nothing major yet. I bought them for hiking and walking in the Pacific Northwest where it's almost impossible to keep white shoes white. Anyway, the vibram soles are great. The shoes are comfortable, light weight and bouncy. They look better on my feet than I thought they would. However just after a couple of weeks and they are already showing signs of wear. That is with them in rotation with 3 other pairs of shoes at times. Also, there is a pad sewn into the tongue which I had to adjust the lacing for because it made the fit across the top of my foot tight. In summary, they are great shoes that I would consider buying again but I'm not sure how durable they are going to be. Check back in a few months from ... These New Balance Foam Fresh X Hierro v7 Trail Running shoes are so incredibly light weight, sturdy, good looking, well fitting and unbelievably comfortable, it's amazing ! No pronation, supreme cushioning. The tongue is sewn in place so it doesn't slide all around. The eyelets are very solid and easy to thread your laces. Has a large heel tab to grab to pull your shoes on quickly. And have I mentioned just how comfortable the cushioning is ?!!! I am so impressed with New Balance, that I ordered another pair in a different color combo. Try them on for comfort and see what I mean ! You'll get a pair too !
The v7 is horrible. The sole on bottom was "upgraded" to add additional cushion but significantly reduces durability of shoe. Started falling apart on me after 60 miles. Hierro v6 is awesome, last me 350-500miles, I don't know why New Balance decided to no longer have hard plastic on entire bottom sole on v7; ruined my favorite shoe.:(
Recently purchased for hiking all kinds of terrain; 25 miles so far, including Brokeoff Mt. and a couple other hikes in Lassen NP. TBD how they will hold up over time, but so far, they are excellent: perfect fit (12.5 M = 47); nice wide heel strike surface for stability; excellent traction (Vibram Megagrip)--so far in dry conditions but from past experience I expect same in wet-- over packed or loose dirt, variably sized and angled rocks, shaky logs over a shallow creek crossing; surprisingly good lateral support and flexibility; and most impressive is the balance between firmness/cushion and still preserving a good feel between soles of feet and whatever's underfoot. I wasn't crazy about the yellow/orange laces, so easily found some laces on Amazon. If NB offered ... These shoes felt so comfortable! I ended up returning them and going for the Brooks Cascadia only because I wasn't sure how durable the upper material would be for rugged trail running. I'm not a hardcore runner, but I was looking specifically for a trail runner shoe. It's possible they would've held up just fine, but I was skeptical, so went for the Cascadia's which seem to be built with a more durable upper material. These could be a fantastic crossover shoe and would be great for light trail running. I still gave them a 5 star because of how comfortable they were, and if you're not intending for them to be a rugged tail shoe, they could be the perfect shoe for you.
I have been living in Keens (Targhee Vents) for years. I've started experiencing knee pain from arthritis and wanted to find a shoe that would be easier on my joints. A very helpful person at my local store - Eugene Oregon - helped me figure out these might help. So far (approximately one month) they seem to be making a difference. I walk everyday, mostly on hard surfaces. These are definitely cushier than the Keens and lighter weight. I haven't yet been able to see how they do on trails, or how breathable compared to the Targhees, both important points for me. From my experience so far, I'd definitely buy them again.
