However, the Zoom X foam is the highlight of this shoe. Not only is the foam soft and squishy, but it is also offers a high energy return. I found the foam to be most useful on my easy runs. After running a hard session, this shoe works well for easy days on the trails. The high cushioning keeps the muscles fresh. As someone who has ran in many of Nike’s shoes, I will say that this iteration of Zoom X is not as squishy as the initial generation. It is a firmer version. For comparison, it is similar to the feel of the invincible 3.In terms of fit, the shoe fit true to size. I normally wear a 9.5 and it fit me perfectly. I appreciate how the upper extends higher than a normal shoe - this helps to prevent dirt and rocks from entering the shoe. However, given its trail-focused design, I wished for a waterproof upper to tackle muddy terrains while keeping my socks dry. Often times, the trails are quite muddy, and by having a waterproof upper, this would serve the shoe well. Nonetheless, the fabric of the upper is comfortable and I did not have any issues with blisters or rubbing. As can be seen by my pictures, I have the shoe in the black and white colorway. The design works well as it hides dirt. Although I already have almost 30 miles on the shoes, they still look brand new! As someone who works nights, I enjoy the little details of the shoe: it says “all day” and “all night” on each respective tongue. This made me chuckle when I first saw it.In terms of bottom line, I really enjoyed this shoe. The updated outsole works well and the Zoom X cushion is phenomenal. The ride is great and responsive. I imagine I will be reaching for this shoe for all my trail runs, and even for some easy and steady days on the sidewalk. As for potential improvements, waterproofing the upper would undoubtedly elevate this shoe's performance, especially in muddy conditions. If it was waterproof, this shoe would truly be at the top of the trail shoe category. Further, while I love the Zoom X, I do wish it was a softer version of the cushioning. I am not sure what chemical changes have occurred since its debut years ago, but it continues to get firmer with each update. However, some many appreciate this change.

The ZoomX Zegama Trail 2 is the type of hiking footwear I’ve been anticipating from Nike. This model feels like a complete upgrade from the previous with the most notable being the new Vibram outsole. Starting from the top, the shoes upper is encapsulated with Nike’s engineered mesh giving just enough lockdown while staying extremely flexible giving this show practically zero break in time. The ankle gaitor may turn some people away initially if they are more familiar with a traditional shoes cut around the ankle but in my opinion it makes the shoe feel like it’s an extension of your leg almost as if you are not even wearing any shoes. The midsole cushioning is ZoomX and you just cannot say enough good things about it. A lot of times with cushioning that great you almost immediately sacrifice stability and this shoe somehow combines both. For a bigger guy like myself it was the main highlight of this shoe. The new Vibram outsole is outstanding in any condition. Most of my days wearing them so far have been filled with rain and let me tell you these worked great. Absolutely no slipping wearing these shoes, the lugs on the outsole create a nice grip on any surface wet or dry. Excellent upgrade on the outsole using Vibram. Overall, this shoe is a fantastic choice for anybody considering buying a new hiking shoe from Nike. To be honest though the design of the shoe itself is enough for me wear them casually as well. The only thing I would recommend is potentially sizing half a size down to minimize any heel slip. Other than that this is a no a brainer purchase for anybody and I am personally looking forward to more colorways!

There is no carbon plate or forward roll in these shoes, so I was eager to take these shoes out for their first test run the next morning. My first run in the Nike ZoomX Zegama Trail 2 shoes was on a soft crushed gravel path. Starting off the shoes felt a little stiff as any new shoe would loosen up as my run went on. I decided to take these shoes off road and transitioned to single track path that was more mountainous. The shoes held together well, and I felt that the vibram sole provided support necessary to explore more treacherous areas. The ultimate test came when I had to cross a small stream and my over eagerness got the best of me as I trounced through the water. While the shoes are not considered waterproof, I expected the shoes to be a little more water repellent. After several more runs, the shoes are growing on me. I'm enjoying the ankle gaiter however I avoid water to prevent my shoes and socks from getting wet. Outside of a more water repellent shoe, I would love to see a slightly longer shoe tongue and laces. The Nike ZoomX Zegama Trail 2 shoe is a great shoe, however I'm eager to see new iterations to help elevate my fitness up the mountain.

Happy Shins!
14 April 2024

I recently started incorporating more trail running into my movement and exercise routine due to a bout of shin splints I kept getting during running on harder surfaces (ie. pavement and treadmill). My previous running shoes were not suitable for more diverse terrain so these sneakers have become a very much needed part of my exercise wardrobe. The cushion and support in them make it feel as though I'm in motion on a cloud. They don't make the weird noise that other trail or hiking shoes I've worn in the past do when you come off the trail and onto concrete or pavement which is nice. I have noticed that while the shoe runs true to size in length, the width is a bit narrower compared to what I've been used to in my running shoes. This is easily fixed when I wear thinner socks, especially for longer runs so that there is no friction at the sides of my feet. So far I have run in these on mostly flat dirt trails with some rocks. I'm looking forward to taking them on some more inclined trails soon and have no doubts they will perform just as well. My shins are much happier now that I've been running in these and hopefully others will have similar results. Happy trail running!

Reduction in foot pain
24 May 2024

As an avid trail runner, Nike was the last brand I thought I would end up using for my trail running shoes. Sometime ago, I found out I have a lisfranc injury that never healed properly, and it causes me great discomfort on longer runs. I tried all the major brands in trail running in search of the most comfortable shoe to help with my lisfranc injury pain. One day I came across the Nike Zegama 2 at my local running store, they let me run on their treadmill with the shoes and much to my surprise they were beyond expectations with comfort. Keep in mind, I tried these shoes on after a 15 mile trail run so my foot was in the usual pain. I was astounded by the comfort and the reduction in pain in my foot. The one thing I would suggest, is maybe better lateral support for the very technical trails, and darker color ways, the lighter colors are nice but these are trail shoes and will get dirty in the first mile or two. Thank you Nike for helping in the mitigation of my foot pain, it’s not completely gone, but with my doctor prescribed orthotic combined with the Zegama 2, I run with 50% less pain in my foot.

Smooth Ride No Matter The Surface

Fit and FeelThese shoes have a great fit, true to size. From my experience, the great fit comes from the secure heel cup that prevented heel slippage while I ran. The tongue seems to be made of a thick soft material. No hot spots or pinches from laces. It made running on the trail comfy and kept my legs fresh as I ran.DesignThe design took a little getting used to. Now I think they look like a rugged running shoe, which is cool to me. The Vibram outsole is a dope functional design. After 6 runs (2 miles each), I don't see any loss of tread. The outsole also does a good job of preventing rocks/pebbles from getting stuck in the grooves. I would like to see more Vibram outsoles in the future. The design of the midsole was a little intimidating at first, but once I started running and they broke-in I became a fan.The upper looks cool. Lacing system could look better.Sidenote, I wore these with jeans once and I walked around the city. They can be stylish. I noticed a few people looking at my shoes.Fabric/MaterialThe material seems durable, no complaints. When I ran, I stepped in a couple small puddles and my foot was dry. Note, I do not know if they are waterproof. The ZOOMx was comfy! I am now a fan of it. It was soft, but had a level of responsiveness that kept my legs fresh.ConclusionThis is a great shoe. I enjoyed running in these and they offer a smooth ride no matter what the surface. If I could change anything, I would redesign the lace loops on the side. I would also use different laces. My left shoe came untied a few times. I would recommend this to a friend, primarily if they have not tried ZOOMx.

Super Comfy!
9 April 2024

As someone who rarely strays away from the Nike Air Max/Jordan collections, these ZoomX Trail shoes were a shocker for me! They are super comfortable, and offer more cushion than my usual Air Maxes, which was surprising. Even though these shoes are marketed for trails, I would definitely recommend them for people who dont go on trails or hiking. These are great for the gym, everyday walking, and even jogging. The upper fabric is very comfortable and has a good amount of stretch. I love the dual colorway on the mid sole and the small details such as the orange tips on the end of the shoe laces. The other thing I loved about this pair of shoes was the grip on the bottom. They offer a good amount of grip and traction so you dont feel like you will slip while wearing ... MoreAs someone who rarely strays away from the Nike Air Max/Jordan collections, these ZoomX Trail shoes were a shocker for me! Superb Update
28 June 2024

The Vibram outsole is the star of the update, but there are a couple of nice minor updates to the shoe including the heel cup which is more plush and secure than the previous version, and the plush tongue, which replaces the thin strip in the original Zegama. It feels more comfortable and well-built than the 1s (which are great). I was concerned about what I had seen about the narrowing of the toe box, but it isn't noticeably smaller, at least on my foot, which I was really thankful for.ProsImproved gripImproved heel pocketPlush tongueStill roomy toe boxConsPrice - It is not worth $180 and you can't convince me otherwise. It's impossible to tie a runners knot so be prepared to replace the laces, which is also pretty unacceptable for a shoe at this price point.

Testing The Zegma 2
26 April 2024

I’m a big fan of switching up the workout routine. I mainly hit the pavement or treadmill 15-25 miles per week but had the chance to give these bad boys a try and shake things up a little bit and super excited I ventured outside of my comfort zone. The PNW offers a lot of different trails to tackle of all lengths and varying degrees of skill. I’m a newbie to the trail running scene so threw these on and gave it a shot. These shoes are true to size, sometimes I fluctuate a half size here and there. The grip once I got on the trail was incredible. I typically run in the Invincible 3’s and while those have a good amount of heel slip, these were snug without being too tight. Well made material all the way around just like you’re accustomed to with all things Nike. These ... MoreI’m a big fan of switching up the workout routine. These are meant for longer distances and I ran for about an hour each time so far and will be including these in the rotation for sure. The zoom foam offers tremendous comfort and can see myself wearing these for all my future trail runs. All in all it’s a well rounded shoe! No complaints!

Trail Zoomin’

The ZoomX Zegama Trail 2 is the trail shoe you’ve been looking for!My initial impression with this shoe was already positive because of the inclusion of the ZoomX technology (some of the best running tech on the market). Upon further inspection I found the soles to be outfitted with Vibram technology, for some added grip and traction for whichever treacherous trails you decide to embark upon. Additionally after putting the shoes on foot I noticed that they are fitted with a one piece attached tongue that provides a nice snug fit which also helps prevents dirt and debris from getting inside the shoe on your trail runs.Once I hit the trails I was blown away with how comfortable and stable I felt in these shoes. The energy return is unmatched thanks in part to the zoomX technology, and the lugged outsoles provide great traction for all trail surfaces. Honestly there isn’t much not to like with these shoes, my only issue with them might be that the stack height is a bit too aggressive for my liking as a trail running shoe.Overall this shoe is incredible and I would definitely recommend it to my fellow trail runners/hikers!
