Best Yet - but what's with the tongue

Whomever designed the tongue must wear sliders all the time.Just came back from running in the Italian Alps. I found the Thundercross Gore Tex more stable than the standard Thundercross.Salomon does the shoe a disservice saying it is best on Wet/Muddy surfaces. It handled rocky terrain, skree, boulders, dirt, roots exceptionally well.If the tongue didn't retract every time you put them on they would be a 5 out of 5. The tongue has to be redesigned - it is awful.

Blisters every time I wear them

I tried to give this shoes the benefit of the doubt after my 1st try. I researched on new trail shoes, read all the nice reviews and decide to wear them a few more times (10-20km each on trail running) over a month thinking on getting them softer and before giving up on them. however, every time I wear them, they keep giving me blisters in my inner arch, mostly in my right foot. Now I tend to believe there is some imperfection on the shoes that could be improved. I already use different performance socks, so If there is any other recommendations to avoid or change this problem I will appreciate it, I will even try other shoes to avoid this issue, but at this point I feel disappointed on my purchase (of $200+). Unfortunately, I cannot continue wearing these shoes after less than 2 months of purchase.

Been walking on these for a month now.Like:Energy foam mid sole makes it very comfortable on basically any terrain.Waterpproof goretex keeps the shoes dry.Nicely made seams which look to be durable. So far so good, will revisit after a year.Excellent grip even walking fast in the rai.Perfect fit that shapes to my feet with roomy toe space.Dislike: (hopefully next version can improve)Took time to break in the stiffness. For me, it was about 2 weeks.Goretex doesn't keep warm. The toe area is cold. I even put my fingers in it to attest the cold retains in there. The pocket lays underneath the last lace loop making it difficult to tuck the lace toggle pieces into.

Cush without the Mush and Better Grip
8 January 2024

The Salomon UltraGlide has been my go-to mountain ultra trail shoe for the past year or so. Love the balance of cushion and stability (cush w/o the mush), but was wanting more grip. When the Thundercross came along, I was excited to give them a try as they have similar cushioning specs.I've been using my Thundercross GTX on snowy trails with and without running snowshoes in the High Rockies of Colorado and they're exactly what I'm looking for. Comfortable level of cushioning, mild rocker shape and an adequately roomy toebox, which provides amble wiggle and swell room for my average width feet.Love them so far and look forward to putting many trail miles on them!

Excellent quality and arch support
13 January 2024

I always need a pair of Salomon trail running shoes in my closet. Every new pair is better than the last pair even though the last pair was 5☆. I need arch support to wear shoes frequently. Salomon shoes give me that support right out of the box! No need for inserts. I like the trail runners for comfort, looks, durability and they are waterproof! This is my third pair over the last 10 years. They start out as my go to shoes and finish their life as my around the house comfort shoe. I particularly like the special laces that tuck into the top of the tongue leaving a clean look with the laces stored away. If you need light weight hikers with arch support Salomon trail runners are the best! Get some! You won't regret it!

Fantastic durability and great ride
21 October 2024

Huge fan of the Thundercross, they fit very well and have the grip needed for technical trails. The rocker design helps a lot on long runs and is still lively in shorter distances. Best of all the outer laminated overlays on the upper are great protection against roots and rocks. Most of my other shoe uppers blowout on the sides from abrasive rocky trails, but these have over 300mi and zero signs of holes. Hoping these GORE-TEX versions will be a nice addition for winter runs. I am 6'2" 200lbs and use these for 5-50k runs.

Great everyday shoes; run narrow
24 January 2024

I bought these shoes to have a Goretex shoe for walking around the city in the rain/snow but that could also be used for hiking/trail running. I've worn them pretty much every day since I bought them, using them in rain, snow, mud, etc., and they've been perfect. They feel surprisingly light. Even with the boxy design (which I like) and the treads, I don't really notice them. Granted, Im used to wearing boots, but I don't feel like these are much heavier feeling than the speedtrax or other similar shoes. The treads are surprisingly discrete. I don't feel them at all while walking, and they helped me stop from slipping on ice. They're large enough to be helpful but don't take away from the ability to wear them as a daily walking shoe.Only "complaint" is that ... MoreI bought these shoes to have a Goretex shoe for walking around the city in the rain/snow but that could also be used for hiking/trail running. I ordered a half size up and prob could still to a size up because they're very, very narrow. I pretty much can't tighten them down at all or they suffocate my feet. It also took a solid two weeks to break the sole in, but it's comfortable now

This and Elixires work
6 August 2024

Yes the rip stop fabric is awesome - yes the Gore-Tex truly does prevent water from soaking my feet and YES my feet seem better at the end of the day than my Nike Pegasus trail 4 ever did. I think the reason is the cradle paired with awesome foam/cushioning. The Elixires have this and I have a pair (a little bit heavier than these though) that completely have made me reorganize a Planned day to do more solely due to, I believe , the curved grip - a lot of manufacturers are doing this too and I guess the theory is correct!! Lasts all day comfort!!! I did go a half size UP but only because I wanted to wear thicker socks.

This is the shoe I've been looking for
22 August 2023

I ran 100 miles in a Backyard race in late April. Due to excessive snowmelt and rainfall, the course was moved to a mixture of grass/dirt, several inches of standing water/mud, and about two miles on pavement. I wore a pair of Speedcross 5 GTX and told everyone that I loved the traction and Gore-Tex, but I wished for more cushioning like the Ultra Glides I've worn in other races. This is that shoe, and it's fantastic. My (female) significant other got a pair of of the non-GTX Thundercross and went down half a size from what she wears in the Speedcross, but I ordered my regular size. The fit is more relaxed (she describes them as "not as slipper-like"), and it's noticeable visually that they're wider than the Speedcross. I wore them out of the box on a 5 hour trail run in 76f/24c weather on a rocky and rooty trail and while my feet were warm, it wasn't overwhelming. No hot spots, no blisters, and that's about all you can hope for from a new pair of shoes. The styling reminds me (in a positive way) of a LL Bean duck boot, I think because of shape of the toe cap. The orange stripe on the "Flint Stone" color is a nice pop of color. These were a warranty replacement for another brand new Salomon model that shall remain nameless and I was a little concerned about trying a new model again, but these are just a fantastic shoe. I wanted a Speedcross with more cushioning. This is that shoe and it's fantastic.

So in the weeks I have had my pair, I've put over 120 miles on them officiating soccer matches. The length of the lugs are wonderful! They're handling wet conditions easily. Not sure about super muddy conditions yet.The fit is pretty good. I like how the upper stretches to form fit the top of the foot. The toe box is a little narrow for me ( a wide toe box like altra has would make these shoes a crowning achievement.)The drop between the heel and forefoot is definitely nice.( and alternative for a zero drop would be a good change because it would help more runner types)The quick lace system doesn't always stay tied. Maybe a 7 mm lug next ?Anyway , in summary, even with some of the concerns, I really like the shoe and would easily recommend a pair to anyone who needs a comfortable trail running shoe.
