The wife and I switched from grocery store razors to safety razors about 3 years ago and haven’t looked back. I read that women like the using the longer handled razors when it comes to shaving their legs so I picked this model of Merkur for her. It has a nice weight to it, it sits in the hand nicely and has the craftsmanship you’d expect from Merkur. Bought another one for our teenage daughter who just started shaving, there is no point starting her off with cheap disposable razors.

I just returned to DE shaving after a long, long affair with multi-blade razors, and I had forgotten how great a DE shave can be. I just received my 47c and some blades, so I popped in a Merkur blade and fired it up. I was a bit leery of shaving with a DE again after reading about people getting nicks and cuts with their first few shaves. I used an old Gillette for many years, and it got me through many Navy inspections without a scratch, so I was hoping that I hadn't forgotten how to shave with a DE. Lathered up with some Barbasol (still have to get a brush) and in minutes my face was a smooth as a baby's bottom, no nicks or cuts, and my skin feels great! If you're still on the fence about getting one of these for yourself, go for it! Your face will thank you for it.

Whether you're looking for a step up or a razor to get started, the Merkur 47C is a great choice. The lined chrome handle is beautiful, and has some weight to it. I prefer the longer handle anyway, but it does seem to give this razor a good balance. The weight of the razor is all the force you need against the skin for a smooth, close shave. If you're looking for a moderately priced safety razor, buy with confidence. This is a quality tool.

I returned to my Fathers OLD SKOOL way of shaving about a year ago and found this model of razor (my fathers old Butterfly Gillette had to be retired). First I like the weight as it allows me to apply very little pressure on my face/head. It clean well. The long handle is perfect as I have rather large hands. For those folks that like razors with a little weight... its a perfect fit. Blade wise, I'm looking at Feathers, Lords and Derby. I tried Gillette and that was OK. Have not tried the Shark but that's next. Also I most likely over-paid for the Razor ($100.00) but I see here that the price-point much more reasonable.
Had always used the typical gillette/shick products but was interested to try this safety razor. Didn't suffer any knicks but a slight bit of razor burn the first time I used it. Once you quickly get the hang of it you can, with just a bit of extra effort, get a closer and smoother finish shave. Fun to do, saves money in the long run and zero plastic waste being sent to a landfill that will take generations and generations to break down.
I have another Merkur model that I use weekly at home and love. This one is for my vacation cabin. I have used it the past few weeks and it works fine. For me it is a bit heavy and a bit long otherwise it is well constructed and designed as are most of the Merkur line. Does it shave better than my other Merkur, nope the both work equally well. Merkur 47c would be a great razor for a first time user due to its weight. What I have experienced with the Merkur and other razors is - find one that you feels right them (most important) find a blade that cut well for your type of skin and beard. People who blame the razor for a poor shave or nicks most likely have the wrong blade match.
Merkur 47C safety razor is top notch! Easy to hold, even with wet hands! Shaves close & smooth, with no razor burn . Razor is made very well!! I highly recommend this razor unconditionally!! You will not be disappointed with this razor. It does the job very well!
Gives an excellent shave. Smooth finish to head. A little top heavy so I found myself choking up on the handle to get balance. Comes with the Merkur blade sample but use a Feather to get real traction with this razor.
This is my favorite razor yet. This is now my daily and has been for a good 6 months. High quality safety razor for a reasonable price. This one has a good heft to it and feels great in my medium sized bands. Not too small too large too heavy or too light. This one was just right as the story goes.
The MERKUR 47C is a very pretty safety razor. The handle is exceptionally handsome to look at. This MERKUR 47C provides a very smooth and comfortable shaving experience. I own several MERKUR safety razors which I like very much. The 47C is different in that the handle has some considerable heft to it. You only need a light pressure to achieve a close shave. The MERKUR 47C is a worthy addition to any DE safety razor collection. I'm glad I bought it.
