If my foot hits the inside portion of the boot I experience the same pain. My doctor put me on anti-inflammatories to no avail I wear only socks in the house and even they can be too tight. The sizing and the styling were changed causing this injury that may take months to a year to heal. I am extremely disappointed and frustrated that my day-to-day movements have been very much affected.

Bottom line up front: To be as comfrotable as the moab 2, Merrel needs to move back to the Moab 2's insole (Kinetic Fit Advanced Footbed) and slightly soften the mid sole.Pros of the Moab 3:It's a good boot that's supportive and fits well. It's grippy and relatively light for a hiking boot.Cons of the Moab 3:-> The insole is much worse in the Moab 3 than in the Moab 2. The 2 had a pressed and perforated EVA insole that was very responsive and stayed springy for years of use. The 3 has a blue metatarsal pad which is inlayed into the insole. This portion of the insole is very, very unresponsive and lacks the same amount of cushion and responsiveness as the 2's forefoot insole. After a single day of use, the blue areas on the insole are flat and have no spring. ... MoreBottom line up front: To be as comfrotable as the moab 2, Merrel needs to move back to the Moab 2's insole (Kinetic Fit Advanced Footbed) and slightly soften the mid sole.Pros of the Moab 3:It's a good boot that's supportive and fits well. After a single day of use, the blue areas on the insole are flat and have no spring. The result is a fit that feels like i'm walking on a hard surface. In my attached images, I've applied roughly the same pressure to the front of the insert to demonstrate how the Moab 3's insert is very flimsy at the forefoot. The older insole is much more sturdy and spongey in the same area. You can purchase the same kinetic fit insoles as the Moab 2's for extra, but only in whole sizes :(-> The midsole is stiffer than the Moab 2, and this contributes to the pressure at the heel and the forefoot. Both of these means the forefoot experiences a ton more pressure and feels much stiffer and less comfortable after walking out of the store. It's more uncomfortable to stand for hours or walk for miles, and it feels like I'm closer to injury at any given point than with the Moab 2.

I bought these on advice from online threads for its wide toe box and great feel. I have wide feet and bought it in my size/w. They are amazing. I got them with the Appalachian trails in mind where I previously hiked and left limping with my feet beat up from the vertical rock pilings. I was actually concerned when unboxing that these would be too stiff and heavy to be effective. The shoe holds you in the heel cup and transfers well through steps. Going downhill you are secure and left with your toes free from the usual smashing that happens in most shoes with a weak mid upper and narrow toe. The vibram souls are great on wet asphalt, mossy rocks, damp logs, ice, and turf. Short of shoes with metal studs in the lugs these are the best thing you can find to offer ... MoreI bought these on advice from online threads for its wide toe box and great feel. The vibram souls are great on wet asphalt, mossy rocks, damp logs, ice, and turf. Short of shoes with metal studs in the lugs these are the best thing you can find to offer secure footing. They are pleasantly light for all of the sole and tread and breathe really well. They handled the damp wonderfully. Comfort and capability in one package. Amazing value.
I have a seriously much older version of these I almost can’t believe I am still wearing. Over 15 years old & have worn the crap out of these and yet nothing torn apart except inside the shoe the thermal cushion properties have been long gone for many years now. Ha! That only expanded my use of these shoes more in summer seasons. After 10 years old I began using them for yard chores such as mowing my half acre yard behind a self-prop…years after that they are still on my feet. This past Fall were my reliable camp shoes in the BWCAW. I associate the Merrell brand as at the top of the game for outdoor enthusiasts & adventurists. The aggressive-looking vibram footbed gives stability, versatility & longevity and is reason I am asked about this shoe what it is & where ... MoreI have a seriously much older version of these I almost can’t believe I am still wearing. Cost of these is steep but when they can take plenty of wear and a some abuse & still last 10+, 15+ years they are more than worth it! 7 out of 5 stars for how I can’t even kill my old pair. Ready for buying a fresh pair this Winter.
Best boot for me. Wide Merrell Moabs, both lowand mid hikers, work well for me right out of the box. I have been wearing Moabs since 2007. Since they came out with a wide width for ladies (my foot is too small for men’s sizes), I haven’t looked elsewhere. The only complaint I have is that the shoe laces could be a couple inches longer. I end up buying longer laces just about every time especially for the mid hikers. I’ve taken my boots trekking in Tasmania, in the grass hills of Ireland , along the coast and mountains of Italy, in the high mountains of Colorado, as well as the the Washington Cascades, Glacier and Rocky Mountains National Parks, the AT within the Shenandoah National Park, in the Great Smoky Mountains NP, …. I have completed one 6 km walk wearing my new lo-top Merrell Moab 3 shoes. The Pros:These shoes have excellent grip with their coarse-lug Vibram soles. The size is a good match for my 10½W foot size, so ordering online worked out. The shoes are slightly wider and longer than my `regular’ 10½W shoes, but this works well given the thicker socks that I tend to wear while hiking. The Cons:The outsole and midsole are sufficiently thin that I can feel the individual lugs of the Vibram sole pressing against the sole of my foot. I would not have imagined that this was possible. These are early days, but for the moment, this sensation is quite distracting while walking. I expected blisters or corns and calluses to develop, but they have not appeared so far.The sides of ... MoreI have completed one 6 km walk wearing my new lo-top Merrell Moab 3 shoes. The Pros:These shoes have excellent grip with their coarse-lug Vibram soles. The size is a good match for my 10½W foot size, so ordering online worked out. I expected blisters or corns and calluses to develop, but they have not appeared so far.The sides of the shoe are also thinner than expected, so there is no significant lateral support. This is not a problem while walking on level ground or pavement, but it could be painful or even dangerous if attempting to hike on even slightly uneven ground / trails.
As a polio survivor I have split sizes (8.5 and 5, the 5 needing a lift and orthotic work) and so had to buy 2 pairs and take one shoe to an orthotist who could do the work and also put the Vibram sole back on. Once all that expensive work was done I broke them in and soon after took them on a strenuous trip to Peru including Machu Picchu and other such sites plus tons of city walking. They were and are nothing short of fabulous! Worth every penny! P.S. I'm 75 years old and have had lifelong foot and ankle issues and thus my standards for comfort, balance and stability are high. My Moab 3s gave me no blisters and have a very comfortable lining that prevents inner slippage. As advertised - they are warm and they are waterproof. I am a huge fan of Merrill's having owned 5 or 6 pair of Moab 2's but even when they are marketed a such, they are not waterproof. Two years ago I did find a pair of Merrill's that were waterproof but when the uppers finally gave way, this particular model had disappeared from their website. Enter the Thermo Mid Waterproof. I don't know if these are the next step in the evolutionary development of the previous outdoor Merrill boot but these are better on every level. They are warm, they are waterproof and they are comfortable for any activity I asked of them outdoors. Purchased online based on description and image, my local store was out for the season. Love the look of the shoe, very well made as all Merrell shoes, good tread pattern, very easy to slip on. Wore them on carpet around the house for a bit to test fit and comfort. Anxious to wear them running errands in town on a cold winter day.The first couple of hours I was thrilled and loved them. Gradually they became extremely uncomfortable to the point of limping and having to cut my errands short to go home and get them off my feet. The toe box is narrower than I expected and the cushioning overall was lackluster. Reminded me of my days of wearing pointy toe high heels.I am disappointed as I've been wearing Merrells for many years and hoped this would be my new go-to ... MorePurchased online based on description and image, my local store was out for the season.
