Awful foot bed and you're stuck with them

This is my second pair of Moabs. I tried them on when I got them and they fit great. I took them on a short 1 mile walk this morning to try them out before a planned hike this weekend. I barely made it through the mile! My feet, knees, and back were hurting with every step. There's something different about the foot bed and it's not a good improvement. I wanted to return them but you can only return unworn shows. Apparently there are no exceptions.I'm really frustrated to have spent so much money on a pair of shoes that are useless to me. If I would have bought them from pretty much any other site I could have returned them but buying from the source was a bad idea. I won't but anything from Merrell again because of this. Super disappointed!

Get ready for heel slippage and foot pain

I attempted my favorite Oboz insoles which removed two of the pain points, but the bottom of the heel pain remained and the heel slippage that already existed got worse (which is just a blister in the making). I should have just returned them then.Merrell: make a narrower heel and/or provide a heel lock as well as more cushioning/support. The somewhat roomy toebox in the "wide" version is nice, but these are a fail overall.

This shoe fits fine...however, I feel I am walking on concrete. If you see my photo you will notice the black insole is what you get in the new shoes. The top insole is from my 20-year old Merrell shoes. What a difference in the thickness at the foot of the insole. I shouldn't have to replace the new insoles with 20-year old insoles because they are more comfortable than the newer, more expensive shoes. And, I should not have to spend an additional $20 for a decent pair of insoles in order to walk in a new pair of shoes. Product development needs to make some improvements. I also noticed all the insoles they sell do not show side product images in order to see the thickness of the insoles. I don't even know what insole to buy in order to replace the new insoles in the shoes. Shame on you product development. I would recommend the shoe. Maybe if you are 20-30 years old, you can tolerate walking on concrete, and this might not be an issue. I am 70 years old and value my feet. I don't go barefoot any longer but I am very fit and do a lot of camping, hiking, and boating. Just beware you may have to buy other insoles. This doesn't change my feelings on the shoe. I love Merrell shoes and will continue to use them. I am just not happy with having to spend more money on better insoles.

Mixed feelings
9 January 2023

I like a lot of things about these shoes - Moab Ventilator 2 - they are good looking, feel very sturdy, have a ton of support, and a good sole. But they don't fit as well as I'd like. I came back to make sure I'd ordered the regular width and not the Wide, which I did. But the right shoe feels at least a half size larger than the left - and my right foot is my "bigger" foot. I've been trying on the right shoe in any pair any time I went to a shoe store, for my entire adult life. This is the first time I've ever run into my right foot feeling like it's slipping around in a shoe while my left foot is happy and comfortable. I did buy online after hearing some really good things about Merrell, but I think I'll have to go to a store if I ever purchase this brand again.

No better shoe to hike North America in!!!
21 April 2023

I’m travelling across Canada and the USA with my family, and one of our favourite ways to spend time together is going on nature hikes! I needed a shoe that was comfortable, breathable in the desert, one that supports my ankles while hugging my feet for steeper hikes!!! I am super impressed with this shoe and highly recommend…it even looks beautiful!!! I was shopping in Arizona for a pair of good hiking shoes, and sadly I couldn’t find my size, but knew I wanted Merrell as I could tell the quality was second to none. This is the first pair of shoes I’ve EVER bought on-line. I was thrilled when we were hiking around Thunder Mountain in Sedona, they were so comfortable the entire hike, without even breaking them in before hand. Simply the Best Hiking Shoe
30 March 2023

For many years now I have found Merrell hiking shoes (& boots) to be the best. They are very comfortable, well made and nice looking. Sturdy but still somewhat supple/not too stiff. I use them for walks in paved trails as well as for dirt/wood chip hilly trails and they're great for all those surfaces. For this purchase, I tried on several other brands of hiking shoes at the store before deciding that sticking with these trusty Merrells was my best choice by far. The price point is reasonable, as well.

Still undecided about these
5 June 2022

I’ve been wearing Merrell Moab hiking shoes for years. I usually get the waterproof version, so these are my first non-waterproof ones. What I like:- They’re lightweight.- They dry quickly. One trail had a partially submerged boardwalk over a wetland, and the shoes filled up with water immediately. I was dreading the rest of the hike in wet shoes, but within a few minutes the water had drained out and they felt almost dry inside. They weren’t squishy or soggy at all. What I don’t like:- The insoles are very minimal. They come up high on the sides of my arches, which feels weird, and there’s a big space below my arches with no support. Within ten minutes my feet were in pain. I replaced them with my favorite hiking insoles, which made them wearable, but it ... MoreI’ve been wearing Merrell Moab hiking shoes for years. I’m not sure that’s how I want my hiking shoes to feel, especially on steep downhill parts. They're both longer and wider than my Moab 2 waterproof shoes.- The shoes come up a lot higher in the back and sides of my ankles, compared to Moab 2. They create new pressure points that I’m not used to, but it’s possible they’ll soften up after a few more weeks.Bottom line: They have potential, but if I’d tried these on in the store I probably wouldn’t have bought them.

Stylish and comfortable hiking shoes!
14 June 2022

I was so excited to be selected by REI to try out and review the Merrell Moab 3 Women's hiking shoes that I immediately tried them on upon arrival. They did not disappoint and seemed very comfortable straight out of the box. They appear to be made of high-quality materials and the gray-blue color, Altitude, is really lovely too!I was pleased to see that the Moab 3 has good arch support as well as a nicely cushioned foot bed. I generally wear size 7.5 - 8 and have found some shoes are too narrow for my feet. I was very pleased that these appear to run a little wider and allowed ample room in the toe box. I tested a size 8, which appears to run true to size.I walked 6 miles in them on my first hike, without a breaking in period, and found them to be very ... MoreI was so excited to be selected by REI to try out and review the Merrell Moab 3 Women's hiking shoes that I immediately tried them on upon arrival. Honestly, I was surprised by how good my feet felt throughout the hike, without rubbing, irritation, or blisters. The Vibram outsoles provided a nice grip too, even on wet rocks and slick boardwalks. I also found them to be not overly warm, as some shoes can be in 95+ degree humid Georgia weather. The Merrell Moab 3 hiking shoes have continued to impress me on each additional hike. The only negative thing that I can say about this shoe, is that the arch support appears to start slightly further back towards the heel then most shoes I have worn. It was not uncomfortable to wear and I didn't notice it while hiking, just when testing them out in my kitchen. Often times I will replace the insoles in my shoes for one with better arch support, but I do not feel the need to do that with this shoe.I am pleased to have had the opportunity to try out the Merrell Moab 3 hiking shoe and would absolutely recommend them to anyone looking for a well-made, stylish, and comfortable hiking option.

The hikers I didn’t know I needed!
30 October 2022

The hikers I didn’t know I needed! Bought these at the last minute for my trip to Arizona and I am so thankful I did! We were lucky enough to win the lottery for The Wave 2 days before and although I was aware the hike was rated “Strenuous” I had originally planned to wear my running shoes. That would have ended up an epic fail. The hilly hike was truly treacherous - varying between uneven gravel, loose rocks, deep sand and these hikers were just what I needed to complete and survive the hike! I never would have made the hike without them!

Worst shoe I have ever gotten from Merrill!
9 August 2022

I got this shoe about a week ago and I am so disappointed. For over 10 years I have only ordered Merrell hiking shoes and have even purchased this style before. I have always been extremely satisfied. They have always been so comfortable right out of the box. I ordered my usual size 8M, but this time the shoes were wider across the front. I thought they would be okay with a thicker sock so I wore them on a 6-mile hike. Big mistake! They were so big and every stone hurt my feet so badly. It felt like the sole of a very cheaply made shoe. The laces would not stay tied even though I double tied them! Waste of money and I am afraid to order from Merrell again.
