These were the first pair of boots I bought, many years ago. They were so good that eventhough I don't have them anymore I want to make a review.I put these pair through a lot, I first used them in my hometown at work, then to Peru to the top of Machu Picchu mountain and then around Europe in a 10 month backpacking trip. Mind you, I did not spend all my time in cities, I used them quite a lot in the Polish Tatras and a month I spent in rural Romania, plus other smaller hikes here and there in the Balkan mountains or through forests around Berlin. The boots were always comfortable and waterproof. After more than 2 years of heavy use and way over 1000km the soles were destroyed (which is of course normal, not a complaint). Owned another pair of Merrells prior to purchasing these. I owned my other pair for about 4 years and put them through hell. My feet grew but the boots were still in fantastic knick and went to a family member for more use. The Moab Adventures were comfortable from the first use. I started wearing them everywhere to ābreak them inā as Iāve done with other boots but realised that I didnāt really need to. Took them on a high country hunt and they handled it all. Creek crossings, icy paddocks and rough high country bush bashing. I recommend them to anyone that will listen

Wear these to work most days with public transit commute and a mile or more conducting rounds around the building. Like all Merrells Iāve had, theyāre very comfortable. But Merrell quality is not what it used to be. Iāve only had these a few months and the heel lining is already shredded and is shredding my socks and the rubber is separating at the toe. Other Merrells I had and used much more harshly lasted well over a year before getting to this state. My most recent Merrell hiking boots are also showing similar quality decline. The last non-Merrell work shoes I had lasted over two years in the same conditions.

I was looking for a ācasualā pair of walking shoes. Nothing too chunky or heavy or technical. Just reasonably priced shoes for walking 5-10km on local trails when I didnāt want to wear my full walking boots. These fit the bill perfectly. They are very cushioned and comfortable. They look smart enough for walking round town. They are tall enough to go through some minor mud and puddles but not a full boot height. If you are looking for something to go up real mountains or long distance, there are better choices than this. I did do one longer (15km+) hike and they started to rub on my ankles. For most walks though, these will more than do the job and do it comfortably and stylishly.
This seems like a good sturdy hike/walk shoe. The uppers could be a bit more finished for my taste so one would be comfortable finishing a nice hike/walk with a visit to a decent dining establishment. As they are, one might assume the wearer has been sleeping in the rough. Coming from Anu though Iām not really disappointed. Quality and versatility seem about the same. The Vibram sole seems quite capable. Lacing closer to the toe would improve fit and subsequent agility.
I use these shoes for work 99% of the time. Because I work in a dry, and sometimes wet environment, waterproofing is important. Usually a pair of Merrells will last me about one year they will always fail at the sole. Separation of the sole where it's glued on usually happens with heavy usage. That's my case for my last eight pairs of Merrells. For the price I paid it is a good quality work shoe without steel toe. These are comfortable working shoes, not too heavy and for the most part durable.
The only boots I have are MOABs. I have a wide foot and these are the most comfortable boots I ever had. I wear them casually for work. I got this version for all purpose use, but that will include hiking, and winters in the NE. I can't say I've tried many other boots, but that is because I never wanted to try another pair after my first MOAB pair. I even got the safety toe versions for work, but had to size up to a 14. Normally, I wear 13.5/14 for other brands, but MOABs run a little bigger, so 13 was a good fit, especially considering I use merino wool socks as well. Not sure what else you could want out of a boot. My sister calls them moon boots, but that's just because I have big feet and these are built to last. Have owned a few pairs of these over the past decade or so and I have been thoroughly pleased with them. They are excellent for trail running, hiking and woods walks, and other outdoorsy-type activities. Being former military, I usually prefer to buy shoes that don't have all kinds of flashy vibrant colors. Any kind of orange, yellow, lime green, refelctive tape and such is typically a no-go...I typically go for colors such as brown, medium-dark grey, etc. and the "boulder" and "dark earth" were both personal favorites of mine. The shoes were extremely rugged and durable as well. I liked that they could hold up to alot of abuse. I am very disappointed to see that they seem to have stopped making them (they have been out of stock everytime I have looked for almost a ...Ā MoreHave owned a few pairs of these over the past decade or so and I have been thoroughly pleased with them. Not all Vibram rubber compounds are the same. The Vibram compound on the Moab has excellent grip on wet surfaces and that's important because I live in a rain forest. Moving indoors, the wet soles squeak on linoleum and remind me of the super sticky soles on Sperry duck shoes. The Vibram rubber can slip a bit on ice but it still gives me more confidence that the rubber chemistry used by other brands of hiking shoes. It's a trade-off between traction and long-life. I'll take traction any day because life won't be fun if I slip climbing over wet rocks. The lug pattern is wide-spaced and work great on mud, rock and snow. Transitioning from trail to pavement, it feels a bit lumpy. That's okay because these are not dancing shoes. These were my only pair of shoes for about 5 years. Great if you do a lot of walking, but I don't wear them on any kind of rough terrain. The toe guard separated early but I glued it back on and haven't had problems since. It doesn't do much anyway, it's just a piece of rubber. They should probably just remove that part. They're still comfortable, but the upper is falling apart and there's a big hole in one of the soles so I think it's time for a new pair.Reliable, comfortable, and you can wear them pretty much anywhere if you keep them looking clean.
