Great Disc Golf Shoes
These have lasted the longest out of any Merrell Sneaker/boot for me for disc golf. I got 3/4 a year out of them before the toe started to delaminate from shoe. They held their waterproofing very well and are extremely easy to clean. I'll likely order another pair. I wish they lasted as long as other brands, but they are the only ones that fit my foot well.... Show more

Great for a short walk or an unexpected adventure!
These shoes have served me well! A bit stiff in the break in period but have evened out nicely! They are very waterproof and yet still breathable! I recently took a wrong turn while on a short hike with my dog... well that hike turned into a 10 mile journey! The one thing that wasn't aching and sore afterwards were my feet! I highly recommend!... Show more

Great only in cool wet weather otherwise too hot.
Narrow and comfortable but way (!!) too warm. I got them for a trip to Scandanavia this past June. It was cool and rainy for the first few days and these shoes were perfect but as soon as the sun came out it was like walking in a sauna. I figured the gore-tex would provide the best of many worlds- waterproof, ventilating and breathable. They were waterproof, and I'm guess they ventilated well because my feet never really sweat however, and this is a huge however, my feet cooked! As soon as the sun came out and it was over 70 degrees my feet were melting. I had relatively thin socks, not wool, and ended up having to find even thinner socks in a store because my feet were so uncomfortably hot. I'm bummed because they were great on one hand, but just too dysfunctional ... MoreNarrow and comfortable but way (!!) too warm. I got them for a trip to Scandanavia this past June. Great shoe for climbing, not so for hiking
These shoes are lightweight, the reason I purchased them. However, they seem to be set up for minor rock climbing which I don’t plan to be doing. They have a great, grippy sole with a toe section that looks good for grabbing edges. To go along with this, the toe box is narrower so the shoe becomes part of the foot. For general hiking on trails and around town I prefer a looser fit in the toe box. So nothing wrong with the shoe, they just did not fit my needs. But they were lightweight. I also bought a pair of Flights which I kept and will be my primary shoe while exploring Sicily.... Show more

Love the shoe but run narrow
I have somewhat wide feet but I’ve never felt the need to wear W shoes. When I first tried these on they felt good. After about an hour they started to feel uncomfortable on the outside edges. I tried a couple more times with the thinnest socks I have and same situation. Since they were now “worn” I kept trying to make them work to no avail. Disappointed because I really like the shoe otherwise. I should have exchanged right away instead of hoping they would work out.... Show more

Mixed bag
Split it down the middle with my review. Received my men's size 13 early November 2022 as a replacement for a pair of MQM Flex 2 that was defective. Today is January 12, 2023. Roughly two months old. MQM 3 Gore Tex is s completely different shoe than the Flex. I use my pair for hiking in Massachusetts. First, the Gore Tex has been great keeping my feet dry. I've trekked through wet meadows, edge of brooks and rivers, stepped in puddles, in the mud and my feet are dry. Exterior of the shoe seems rugged. No tears from snagged branches or rocks. Traction is run of the mill. Not impressed. They don't dig into a trail surface like I'd hope. Stepping on boulders / rocks they can be slick. Stepping in stream side or river mud or trekking up a moist dirt hill, horrible ... MoreSplit it down the middle with my review. Stepping in stream side or river mud or trekking up a moist dirt hill, horrible traction. Wet pavement too. Not grippy. Laces frequently come undone, a major nuisance when it's below freezing. I have mine laced to the top and the laces aren't long enough to double knot. Toe bumpers on both shoes are coming undone. Stitching along my ankle at the top of the shoe is coming-up. Cushioning is not what I was used to with the MQM Flex 2. MQM 3 it's poor. I'm 6' 3", my knees take a beating. MQM 3, my knees are starting to ache. I have narrow, low volume feet. Narrow fit is great. Toe box is not too roomy and not too tight. I'm happy. The volume at the top of the toe box for me is not the best, completely different than the Flex, but has improved since I've broken-in the shoes. They crunch/fold into my toes. Thicker sock the better it is. If you have normal, narrow feet you'd be fine. I've contacted MERRELL customer service about my pair's defects and other feedback I'm giving in this review. Rep was receptive and I've initiated a defect claim via MERRELL's website.... Show more

These are Approach Shoes
I'm not sure about the use case of some of the other reviewers. This is a climbing approach shoe with transitional grip depending on what part of the shoe is taking your weight. This is especially important to note when walking on loose or wet surfaces. My review:TLDR: Okay for climbing up to 5.10 gym routes, I struggled with the 5.11s. Used them to climb an alpine route today and I'm going to buy out all pairs in my size.I'm shopping for a climbing trip to Rogers Pass and I'm looking for a shoe I can wear for the climbing and the hiking. The intention to only have a single style of shoe so I don't have to carry up climbing shoes or hiking boots. With that in mind, I ordered these and tested them this weekend.Gym test:I took the shoe to my local climbing ... MoreI'm not sure about the use case of some of the other reviewers. With that in mind, I ordered these and tested them this weekend.Gym test:I took the shoe to my local climbing gym and tried out the routes. I'm a high 11's low 12's kind of climber wearing good shoes and these things were fine up to 5.10+. When I tried the 5.11a/b routes I found doing them quite a challenge. This is pretty par for the course for any Vibram soled approach shoe though. They're too soft to edge the higher grades. On the boulder problems it was of course very problem dependent. These shoes have the climbing toe but the reinforced walls for jamming crack are only for show. There are better approach shoes out there if you're anticipating crack climbing. These things are for smears, slopers, and limited edging.Alpine test:I wore these and climbed Mount French. This is a low difficulty alpine climb and it had a little bit of everything. Bushwacking, deadfall, long approach, glacier travel, scree, debris field, slab, and low 5th climbing at high elevations. The good: I felt quite sure of my footing doing the low 5th class movement with high exposure. The toe and shoe platform worked well on the smooth limestone I was climbing. I could comfortably hit 2 cm edges and uncomfortable hit 1 cm edges. Anything smaller than that I was just smearing. The mid-transition grip worked surprising well on the glacier. I wasn't expecting that. The bad:Why make a shoe like this waterproof? I just don't get it. Maybe there are other shoe users out there that need it but I've never been in a climbing environment where I wanted a shoe to be waterproof (boots yes, I want those waterproof sometimes). I started this climbing early, everything was covered in dew. My shoes were soaked within 15 minutes and remained soaked for the next 9.5 hours of climbing. The only good thing about the waterproofing was that when it rained while I was crossing the glacier, the slush couldn't flow into the shoes because the shoes were already full of water. The ugly:These are light weight approach shoes meant for a hike and a bit of climbing. Taking them out on an alpine route takes a lot of the life out of the shoe. I cut through the sidewall going down a debris field and I wore the cushion under the climbing area of the left shoe during some of the corner climbing I had to do. This is the price you pay for getting a shoe that's this light, you're going to have to buy more. My guess would be you could do 5 PD+ alpine routes in this shoe and then you'd need a new pair. For my trip, I'm purchasing 3 pairs.... Show more

These shoes ticked all the boxes
I bought these in the orange color for my husband. He walks 6 miles per day on our trail in all types of weather, so the Gore-Tex is perfec for him. He was sick of the 'all mesh' running shoes wearing through where his big toe is quite soon after he bought them. These shoes have a toe guard that took that problem away. They are also comfortable from the first wearing. He really likes all aspects of these shoes!... Show more

Upd to MQM 2 but "climbing zone" is a slip hazzard
Loved the mqm Flex 2 and can't find it anywhere. Crazy durable, comfy and year-round wear.Mqm Flex 3: Tried the shoe and boot versions: shoe is good, same comfort and secure fit as the mqm Flex 2 but wth is with the treadless "climbing zone" at the toe - more like slipping zone. Reviews from user cite exactly that - slipping on grass, hard pack dirt, floors. Tried the boot: different fit and feel of course, same climbing (slipping) zone at toe. The upper boot part offered coverage but no stability. Love your stuff and am a longtime wearer but these are a no go for me.... Show more

Waterproof? YES!
Ordered from the website, they were on sale. Easy ordering and prompt shipping. These are for you if you are looking for waterproof all terrain shoes. Tried them in heavy rain, puddles everywhere and they are waterproof. Fit true to size and are well manufactured. I like the style but that is always a matter of personal preference. I would recommend them if they fit your needs.... Show more
