Out of the box, these shoes fit perfectly, and felt great on my very first sojourn. They keep my feet dry on rainy hikes/walks. The ONLY reason I gave a four star instead of a five is because I often have to retie the laces along the way to tighten them. And oh, I got an amazing almost 50% off deal on these comfortable waterproof shoes ... I just happened to time my online searching on the Merrell website and found a sale. Third pair of Merrells that are a perfect fit for various types of trails.

Comfortable and good looking hiking shoes are hard to find. I have received my first pair of Merrill Alverstone’s a few weeks ago. They’re lightweight, well supported and so comfortable. They are perfect for summer and fall. The 7 is a little big for me, I wish I had ordered the size 6.5, I think I will wear socks rather than exchanging them.The customer service is super friendly and efficient. Thank you so much!P.S. I just ordered my second pair of Merrel today. I can't wait to wear them :)

I’m not one to typically write a review on a product, but i am BLOWN AWAY! First of all how quick i received the product i was very impressed. This is my first pair of Merrell’s. I ordered the Alverstone waterproof shoes last Monday they arrived Thursday afternoon. I had zero time to break them in other than i had them on for maybe 20 minutes in the house. I headed out to Georgia the following day for a weekend full of hiking. I love the arch support i have a skinny/narrow high arched foot so these really work for me. They are extremely comfortable and light weight. I love the color and style of the shoe! I’ve had zero problems/no hurting feet and i really put them to the test with yesterday’s hike. I love everything about this hiking shoe: attractive colors (no neon, thank you! this is, after all, a hiking shoe), wonderfully lightweight, yet with a terrific sturdy not-too-bulky sole and just-right tread for Colorado's trails, and it's waterproof. They look more like shoes than clunky boots. These are all things I've been searching for to take as my ONE pair of shoes for traveling (plus one pair of sandals). I usually wear 8 or 8.5 wide, but after reading a number of reviews (on other sites) that mentioned these worked for "problem" feet, including bunions, arthritis, and Morton's neuroma, I decided to try them. Just received them today and right out of the box, took my lunchtime mile ramble on a trail up the hill behind my home. I love that there is no breaking in period! Fit is snug, great support and thought I would not like the higher heel, but I do! The only con to this shoe is adjusting the laces to tie them. I had a hard time pulling the laces up snug enough (due to hand dexterity issues) and the tongue is very thick - but once I got them to feel right, they stayed in place. I did have a bit of debris when I took them off, but not a handful like my old hikers. Can't wait to test the waterproof feature. Highly recommend!
These Hiking sneakers are perfect for me. They have a roomy toe box, provide enough air around the foot so that my feet are.warm in cold weather and have ample cushioning for the feet. They proved waterproof in a light rain and walking briefly through two inches of snow. I would purchase them again.
I ended up returning these shoes. When I put them on they were comfortable, but at I took my first step I heard a crackling noise. They sounded like one of my dogs toys. I bought them for hiking in the wilderness and I like to not let the animals know I'm coming. But I was impressed with the return process. And they assisted me in finding a great alternative.
Seems like a great shoe but makes a loud squeaky noise with each step. I suspect they're fine on ground/dirt but there will be times I'd wear them inside in public, too. The shoe is attractive and seems fine otherwise. Also, the toe box isn't big enough for me. If you need a wider toe box, you may want to find another shoe.
I purchased these shoes for 2 reasons. My husband swears by Merrell shoes and wears nothing else. We have 2 Labs that I walk every morning, and I was tired of wet socks with my regular walkers. I spent more on these shoes than I would normally for those reasons. I thought if they kept my feet dry they would be worth the price. This morning it was misty and the grass was wet. When I got home my socks and feet were WET! I was NOT happy. What does waterproof mean? Obviously not what I call waterproof. I’ve had them over 60 days I’m sure so I doubt I can return them, and I don’t have the box. BUYER BEWARE they are not waterproof. I won’t be spending this kind of money for Merrell again.
I purchased these in June 2020 specifically for the waterproof element. I walk every morning in the woods and grassy trails. I have never worn them on a creek or stream. They were comfortable right out of the box and kept my feet dry for about 12 months. (I didn’t wear them much in the winter, I bought other Merrill boats for that). Anyway, one year after purchase my feet are wet from walking in grass. So very disappointed.
