Microplane Elite Series Extra Coarse Grater Black

Get something else if you want to save yourself from a household emergency room visit. This thing cut so deep the hole in my thumb didn't stop bleeding for 30 hours. The tip design is curved, so it really only has 1/2" or less of "gripping" surface. One turn the wrong way and the whole thing slips out. I did not purchase on amazon but felt strong about this need to warn people. I thought maybe it was user error. So I went to use it again, being extra careful - and ended up with not one gouge in my thumb - but three!! Not as deep, but I was being careful knowing the danger. Just simply a bad design! I don't know how a company could release this product and sell this product knowing (or thereafter learning of) its inherent dangers. RUN AWAY! Love it! So sharp it's a bit dangerous. The curved surface will take some getting used to though; it's much harder to push something against that to grate it than it is a flat surface. Still love it though.

Microplane put a sticker on the back of the blade. Removing sticker residue is hard; Removing sticker residue from a grater blade is stupid. If it comes off in the dishwasher I might update this review. Otherwise my cheese will be tainted with glue for quite some time.

Almost perfect. I bought a set of Elite series paddle graters eight years ago and have loved them since day one. With this extra coarse grater, I can work through a 1-lb block of sharp cheddar in under 2 minutes. And I love the covers--they prevent inadvertent knuckle lacerations when digging around in the storage drawer and they're great for rough measuring. After eight years of service, the blades are still sharp. The only downside is that the plastic bodies that support the blades have started to crack, and although the blades are still quite sharp (my wife still skins her knuckles when she isn't paying attention), I'll have to toss them soon because I can't figure out a way to repair/replace the bodies. It works well -- much better than the flat kind with multiple grating sizes. Because the holes/cut is much larger than the finer microplanes, it takes a bit more effort to move the cheese back and forth, but that's to be expected. Works well and cleans up nicely in dishwasher or just with soap & water.

Had a fine one, needed a coarse one. Used frequently. If you wear out or break the clear plastic cover/catch, you can order replacements here.

Absolutely brilliant and fantastic. I love it to bits. Perfect. I love the catcher / cover too - very innovative.I think that just about sums it up.I find Microplane graters wonderful.

An excellent kitchen utensil. The protective cover has two functions. One to protect the sharpness of the grater blade in your kitchen drawer and the other is act as a container on the back of the grabber to catch and contain the grated foods. I love it.

Disappointing grater

I may not have understand what I was buying but I wanted a grater that would have bigger holes to create thin slices of food. It’s more like a micro plane or zester and is too fine a grate. I should have bought a box grater with multiple size options.
