I have several of this brand graters. The plastic edged ones seem to fail fairly quickly (in a couple years). I got the full metal set as a gift from my husband. I have been using these over the holidays and they are much more robust than the plastic edged ones I have been using. I find the slide to be sub par in quality and function. It doesn't run along the grater smoothly. I doubt that will be used.I find the long stick zester to be easier to use than the zester included in this set for doing lemons and limes.Overall, will definitely recommend these.

I was extremely disappointed. The grater was advertised as a coarse cheese grater, but was very fine. I could not consider grating potatoes for hashbrowns, as it is so fine. The same is true of carrots. VERY mis-leading advertisement and product. (The cardboard it was attached to also said it was coarse.)

The only possible fault I see is that water appears to get inside the end seams on the rolled handle. Then I see it leaking out. I will watch this and contact the company. Even though it is "stainless" steel, that does not mean it is acceptable to have a seam leak water into the device. I chose the "coarse" because i wanted small ginger gratings: smaller than the long chunks from my box grater (equivalent to the "extra coarse here), and larger than my other Microplane, the classic zester. It is perfect for that. I like the all-metal and the convenient size. It works with the accessory box for the last small bit of ginger. Now fix the handle.

We happily pay a bit extra for items that do their job. The Microplane fine grater and zester do their jobs beautifully. The fine grater gets 10 out of 10 for fine grating parmesan and for turning ginger into a pulp with no threads. If you prefer your ginger slightly coarser with small and very fine threads, it is best to use the zester. We are certainly delighted with our purchase of these Microplane products, and John Lewis had them competitively priced. Recommended.
It certainly is a bit pricey for a fine grater but is truly amazing. I bought one years ago which eventually blunted as bit, so while still reasonable for parmesan and garlic and ginger, its not quite as amazing at grating orange and lemon zest for cakes. So I didnt hesitate to buy a new one. So if you like cooking, invest in the microplane - it really is so much better than anything else.
This grater was purchased to replace a similar coarse grater (also Microplane) that had a PLASTIC FRAME. One of the first times I used the first one, the frame easily snapped. It remained 1/2 functional because of the stiffness of the blade, but would easily bend when grating Parmesan Cheese. The only reason to produce a grater with a plastic frame would be to sell more graters: cheap/easy to make. I spent about $12.99 for the first one and only about $3.00 more for the metal frame one. The blades are identical. The Professional Series is difficult to find either because Food Services buy them all or Microplane doesn't want to sell a product that will last.
Easy to use/clean. I have arthritis and the handle is comfy for me. The plastic casing is nice to protect the part that could cut you while rummaging through the drawer for other tools. Also love how wide this is- works great for bigger blocks like Parmesan.
The product works very well. It is smaller than my previous Microplane grater but that isn't a problem. The major problem is that the guard is extremely difficult to put back onto the grater. It is a design fault that needs correcting for the protection of the grater as well as for storage. I had the last Microplane grater for 5 years so I suppose it will be a long time before I check to see if they have corrected the problem.
Having had several micro planes before this of varying costs this one albeit on the expensive side knocks spot off them all! Easy to hold ( not heavy or cumbersome) grating Parmesan is a joy - simply hold over your dish grate and a light bash removes any excess on the grater. Works with lemons and garlic but not good for ginger as it's too fibrous. All in all the best microplane I have had well worth the money.
This grater works pretty well, however, I find that it's a bit awkward to hold while pressing forward with a fair amount of force. It feels like the item should be grated a bit more easily for the sharpness and large size. But it does work. Regarding the cover, some reviews have stated it's impossible to get off: the trick is you have to pop it off, not slide it. First one side then the other. If you try to slide the cover it tends to get stuck, and you'll run the risk of grating your fingers if it moves suddenly.
