I purchased this to replace a 10 year old Dell which had more than done it's time, but of course was slow and lacking the new features. My main use is hobby photo editing and surfing the web. The display on this new screen is beautiful, the laptop is very lightweight, just 2.5 pounds, and the response time is fast. No more waiting several minutes to boot up. I am not a tech wizard, so getting my programs set up, and on a different browser, is taking a little time. Battery life is good, the touchscreen very responsive, nice touch to the keypad, and the unit has a sturdy feel. Traveling will be much easier, as this will fit inside a large purse, small tote, or backpack. For someone looking for a business, student, or upgrade for a home computer, this Surface might be ... MoreI purchased this to replace a 10 year old Dell which had more than done it's time, but of course was slow and lacking the new features. Good Points: Flawless performance, even with relatively demanding tasks.Lovely design - although some doubts over durability - surface could attract scratches and alcantara may wear -- so far, only suspicions.Comes with no bloatware (apart from the nagging ads in Windows 10)Ability to switch to Win10 Pro from Windows S.Keyboard is very nice to use.Hello sign-in is more useful than I thought it would be - and accurate.Improvement Points: Windows S - completely wrong for a high-spec, high price laptop.Would be nice if the hinge swung 360 degrees, to be able to use the laptop in different modes - ink is almost impossible to use in laptop mode.

Good Points: It is light and wieldy and very quick. It effortlessly manages daily computing tasks.Improvement Points: The lack of ports is totally rediculous, and not having a dedicated external hub which is decent price is just a rip off.To use my normal AV kit, I've had to spend hundreds of pounds on docks and leads.I did not get to see or handle this machine before buying it due to shortages at my local store. Had I been able too I wouldn't have. Not just that but then there is the stupid magnetic power port which keeps falling out. Then there is the earth leakage through the laptop chassis is just disturbing.I wasn't going to use an external keyboard...but unless I want the feeling of ants walking over my wrists I have to.The 512 SSD inbuilt drive is ... MoreGood Points: It is light and wieldy and very quick. But with only having 1 usb port...it's crap when away from home and my external port setup.

I really like how fast it is and all the up to date features of Win 10 Pro which is a free upgrade from the Win 10S that it starts out with. It is really easy to get the Pro version; simply download a non Microsoft store program and you will get the choice to get the Pro version. Just click on "get" and you have it instantly. Very light and I especially like the magnetic power connector to recharge the battery. It also will open windows with a facial scan from the camera instead of a code entry. Code entry is a back up for the facial ID. I really also like the touch screen that also magnifies with 2 fingers. If you need a number pad, external DVD and head phones, you can do them all with Bluetooth simultaneously.
The product was far better than expected. It was in mint condition for a used product. The battery life now is about 4 hours. But I assume that when new it ran about 8-10 hours. Although the i5 processor is good for moderate photography editing, it crashes in some more intense programs. In hindsight I have ordered another Surface with i7 and 16g of memory and will use the i5 as a backup. Nice laptop, but if you do artistic etc work ...get the i7 version.
