I highly recommend this keyboard type cover, operates flawlessly, looks like it's meant to be and you don't have to connect it via micro USB for it to operate. I purchased an inferior keyboard that had seven different coloured lights, looked fantastic, had Bluetooth 5 and a really good price. Unfortunately every time I restarted tablet 80% of the time I had to manually reconnect Bluetooth, real pain and it took up a valuable USB port to power the lights and Bluetooth, yes it has a battery but only lasted a few days at best. Microsoft keyboard type cover is the only way to go, don't waste your money on inferior keyboards, you'll end up buying a Microsoft one in the end. First time, the spine on top of the keyboard where it connects to laptop broke. It refused to work unless I put it in one specific position. Microsoft replaced it pretty quickly without issues.Second time, the up arrow key stopped working and the top layer of the keyboard started peeling away. Microsoft again replaced it without issues.Third time, the shift key broke again and the top layer from corners started peeling away again. Out of warranty so can't get it replaced.A mechanical keyboard and mouse worth that much money lasted me 8 years and it is still working fine. This broke within 4 months.

Frankly, I thing every Surface should come with one of these, not just the pro models. It is very helpful to be able to have a keyboard if you need it and be able to take it off when you don't. Sure you could use a Bluetooth keyboard but since it is physically connected to the surface it doesn't need batteries like a BT would. The keys are quite a bit smaller than I was expecting and it takes some adjustments to how to type with these sausage fingers. The only thing wrong with mine is the left SHIFT key doesn't work. Inconvenient yes, but not enough to make me stop using it or try to return it since the other SHIFT does work. + detachable keyboard with track pad + doesn't use batteries + doubles as a screen protector - keys smaller than expected (for someone with ... MoreFrankly, I thing every Surface should come with one of these, not just the pro models. If you are one of the few with a Surface Pro X SQ1 or SQ2, than you will need a keyboard. Though this is MS keyboard and attaches well , it is average compare to the other pro keyboards and it falls behind in build quality to the SP7 keyboard. First some of the keys do not sit straight and this causes issues when typing, the bounce on this keyboard is bad, as I type this I have to back space a lot due to key bounce error from no key presses. The material is good, and price is ok (probably cost them 40 dollars to build and they charge 100+ for it) The backlight is much lighter than my Surface Pro 4 keyboard and worse than the wife SP7. The touch pad is large though not placed well (to either side) so you have to move your whole hand if you want to type scroll combo. ... MoreIf you are one of the few with a Surface Pro X SQ1 or SQ2, than you will need a keyboard. The touch pad is large though not placed well (to either side) so you have to move your whole hand if you want to type scroll combo. There is NO PEN attachment like the signature keyboard, so all and all it's average and gets the job done and if their was another option less than 200 dollars I would go for it (signature keyboard is over priced hard to justify) and the brydge keyboard pushes the screen hard like it does on the Surface Pro 3-7 models. If you need a keyboard as you will this is really your only option. See the attached pictures for the keyboard, the 2nd pic shows the slanted keys and shows how some are slightly hire than other ones(this was NEW IN BOX from MS) so rather disappointed.
Was not going to buy the Surface Pro 7's keyboard because I figured I could find a much cheaper wireless or bluetooth keyboard (which I did). However, I was given a giftcard which lowered the price of the keyboard by over 50% (open-box excellent condition keyboard, not a new keyboard) so I decided to purchase it.After using the keyboard for over a week, it is much better than I expected. It is a full-size keyboard which is important to me because I am a touch typist. Typing on it feels nice and the keys are very responsive. Trackpad also feels great. The magnates are strong and lock the keyboard onto the tablet very securely. You can hold the end of the keyboard and have the tablet hanging down with fear of it detaching (unless you start swinging it).Only three ... MoreWas not going to buy the Surface Pro 7's keyboard because I figured I could find a much cheaper wireless or bluetooth keyboard (which I did). Trackpad also feels great. The magnates are strong and lock the keyboard onto the tablet very securely. You can hold the end of the keyboard and have the tablet hanging down with fear of it detaching (unless you start swinging it).Only three issues so far with the keyboard. The first is that the keyboard has to be connected to the tablet to work. When typing, there are times when I'd some distance between myself and tablet screen. In those circumstance, I have to use my portable bluetooth keyboard. The second is that the end of the keyboard attached to the tablet could be angled a little higher angle off the ground. This would make it a bit more comfortable when typing for long periods of time. The third, and biggest, issue is the price. You can get great portable wireless or bluetooth keyboards for under $40, so paying 3 to 4 times that amount makes the Surface Pro 7's keyboard feel very overpriced. Especially when you consider that you could buy the pen, a screen protector, and/or a nice professional-looking case (which protects the front of your tablet just like the keyboard) with the money you'd save.
First and foremost, the typing experience is fantastic. The keys on the Signature Type Cover are perfectly spaced, providing a comfortable and responsive typing feel. The backlit keys are a blessing, allowing me to work efficiently in low-light environments or during late-night sessions. Whether I'm typing emails, creating documents, or simply browsing the web, this keyboard enhances productivity with its precision and tactile feedback. The trackpad is another standout feature of the Type Cover. Navigating Windows 10 (or later) is a breeze with this precision touchpad, making it a joy to use for both work and leisure. One of the reasons I chose the Signature Type Cover was its exceptional build quality and premium materials. The Alcantara fabric feels luxurious under my fingertips and adds a touch of elegance to my Surface Pro. Not only does it look great, but it's also durable and resistant to stains and spills, ensuring my investment remains pristine.Attaching and detaching the Type Cover is effortless, thanks to the magnetic mechanism. It securely connects to my Surface Pro, instantly transforming it from a tablet into a laptop, and vice versa. The flexibility to switch between modes seamlessly has made my Surface Pro even more versatile. The Signature Type Cover also features an integrated glass trackpad with a smooth and precise surface, making navigation a breeze. It supports all the Windows gestures, allowing for intuitive and efficient control of your device. Moreover, the Type Cover serves as a protective cover for the Surface Pro's display when closed, shielding it from scratches and minor bumps. It's slim and lightweight, making it easy to carry around without adding unnecessary bulk.Overall, the Microsoft Surface Pro Signature Type Cover is an essential accessory for Surface Pro users. It elevates the device's functionality, enhances productivity, and adds a touch of sophistication to your setup. If you want to get the most out of your Surface Pro 3, Pro 4, Pro 5, Pro 6, Pro 7, or Pro 7+ and enjoy a superior typing experience, I highly recommend the Microsoft Surface Pro Signature Type Cover in black. It's an investment that will pay off with every keystroke, and it complements your Surface Pro perfect.
I just picked up the Surface Pro keyboard today, and I think it's a fantastic addition to the Surface Pro. I had the other keyboard with the stylus holder/charger, but its "Alcantara" material was too much like cloth and attracted stains. This one feels more like a rubber/plastic mix and is easier to keep clean. It doesn't have the pen holder/charger, but I don't need or use the pen anyway, and this one is $50 cheaper. Overall, it feels great and the keys are responsive. it does also have backlit keys which is a nice feature to have at this price point. .
This keyboard hits way above its weight. Its very thin & light, but its pretty sturdy, high quality & like a premium device should feel. I got the gray alcantara version & I gotta say I like the material reminds me of my shelbys streeing wheel, but as with all alcantara steerinng wheels I dont know how its going to last; my bad this aint a car review. Anyways the material feels nice but I worry how its going to age. But let discuss the elephant in the room, how does it feel? Does it actually have depth & tactility to its movement? Like what expect from our ultra keyboards? It actually does :) where did they even get the space are they using some sort of space expansion tech? They've put people on the moon; who knows right? I've owned a Surface or Surface Pro device since the Surface 3 LTE was released, and have been happy with each in its turn. However, I continue to be mystified by Microsoft's choice to sell a solid tablet/laptop replacement device (such as the current Surface Pro) completely hamstrung as a bare-box item, which is almost non-functional as it comes. As anyone who owns or has ever used a Surface/Surface Pro can tell you, a keyboard is essential on these devices. The ability to use the surface pen to hand-write is wonderful, and the on-screen keyboard HAS improved, but a keyboard/type cover is an absolute must for any serious Surface user.Having owned multiple versions of the Surface Type Cover, I believe Microsoft has finally finished tweaking the design of these keyboards and has it where it needs to be. While the old keyboards tended to feel a bit clunky, with poor key travel/sensation, awful backlighting options, and a touchpad that was both too-small and too sensitive, these issues have been fixed in the current version.Additionally, the keyboard now has "dedicated" buttons for adjusting the Surface's screen brightness, as well as the keyboard's backlighting, something which earlier versions lacked. These buttons are the primary usage for the function keys, which does require you to be cognizant of the state of the "Fn" button lock if you're inclined to using keyboard commands to close windows or applications. There are two issues which I've noticed with this version of the Surface Pro Type Cover. The first is the habit of the surface to turn on auto-rotate mode and attempt to set itself to tablet mode, even when the keyboard is connected, when I first hit the space bar, as when waking up the screen. It seems like the Surface Pro LTE-A (2017 model) is acting like there's a keyboard shortcut for rotation mode or tablet mode tied to spacebar some of the time, but I can't find any evidence of such a command listed anywhere. Finally, there is only a single 'Control' key on the left side of the keyboard. The key layout is Control, Fn Lock, Windows, Alt, Spacebar, Alt, Menu Key (right click), arrows. I would really have valued a control key on the right side of the keyboard as well, perhaps in place of the rarely-used menu key.Overall this is a solid Surface Pro Type Cover which fits the most recent versions of the Surface Pro (4 & 2017), and will work with the Surface Pro 3. This version lacks the current Alcantara fabric covering, which makes it easier to wipe clean (the Alcantara is prone to staining). It also does not have the fingerprint scanner, which I have not found necessary given the accuracy of the IR camera. If you have a Surface Pro, you need a keyboard - this one is well worth the purchase.
The Microsoft Surface Pro Signature Type Cover is a fantastic accessory that seamlessly integrates with the Surface Pro lineup. The black color gives it a sleek and professional look, and the Alcantara material feels luxurious to the touch. The keyboard itself is responsive and comfortable to type on, making it great for productivity on the go. The trackpad is smooth and responsive, enhancing the overall user experience. While it is a bit on the pricey side, the quality and functionality make it a worthwhile investment for any Surface Pro user looking to enhance their device.
