I’m hopeful Microsoft can turn this around, the biggest talking point of the Elite 2 to-this-day is the stick drift issues. If they can resolve this, then they will arguably have the best option on the market for a premium controller.

The companion windows app that comes with it works great too, and it’s very easy to configure.When I did get a unit without stick drift, I was disappointed with the handling. There is a sort of dead space around the neutral area of the stick and require a bit of extra movement for input to register. Not a huge issue in most games, but if you are considering it for a game like Rocket League or any other precision driven game, it’s not worth it.Overall, if you want to take your chances with it for some casual gaming, go for it. If you want something with reliability, go for the regular Xbox Series A controller or Razer equivalent.
I've really been enjoying this controller. The rechargeable battery was something I'm glad this came with. I like the old 360 thumb sticks which this comes with an assortment of different ones. The D-pad pictured in the advertisement is nice for fighting games but you can switch that out too. The only real issue I've had is with the paddles on the bottom. You'll need to train your muscle memory to accept them. Overall, they are the better way to play. Do yourself a favor and disable the x y a b buttons in the menus on the XBox/PC. The controller is heavy compared to the standard ones. It's solid and the grip is awesome. You'll need to relinquish that death grip most people play with in order to get accustomed to the paddles. This worked fine for me, but I'll be sticking with standard.Accessories:I love the convenience of the charging stand and case it comes withThe different stick options are a plus and easy to swap, but I will probably just use the default ones.The faceted (default) dpad has a nice action, but for me the + dpad is the better choice and has a decisive response!The paddles work fine, easy to remove if desired, I do use them with a couple of remappings (view and left bumper in my case).IMO, the new white elite 2 controller could have at least been a consideration if it had the + dpad and the paddles.Software/Other:I use the controller on PC coupled with the wireless adapter (got mine from Noel Leeming)The XBox accessories app works as expected and allows me to setup the profiles.You can remap all functionality on the controller, but only to existing actions the controller supports. SO...- No keyboard mappings- Doesn't allow a mapping for the "Share" button found on newer xbox controllers.I think (hope) both those shortfalls will be resolved in a future firmware update, it sounds like keyboard mappings was possible on older firmware! (Steam cannot get around the keyboard mapping issue at least not on the paddles, reWASD might be able to??).My current firmware is 5.13.3146.0Quality concerns:There is a lot of discussion about maybe QC issues with the controller, it almost put me off getting one. So far I have not encountered any issues, and for a premium product you would expect not to!What helped me buy one was to research the issues people had with other controllers and brands to get a sense of how often people have issues with controllers in general... But ymmv.For people in NZ some peace of mind may be gained from reading the consumer guarantees act, and understanding what the rules of it are, I would expect MS/MA to be complaint with the act without too much fuss, but know your rights.That also helped me to have some confidence that if there were issues I could elevate the concern and not simply be fobbed off with a refurb or whatever.With all of this said - I've only had it a week to replace my older xbox one gen 3 controller that was kaput. If I remember I will try and update/re-review this in a year and or if I encounter issues before then.But otherwise I am glad I got one, and on sale too :)

I received the replacement today, one of the only ones left in the store and was a ecstatic to be able to play some of my favorite FPS again on a controller that doesn’t hurt my hands as much as my PS5 controllers do. About 10 minutes into a match of Halo Infinite to test it out, it became apparent that I could not press in the left thumb stick while at any other angle besides up, down, left, & right. My previous Elite Series 2 never had this issue, so I contacted technical support at Microsoft who deal with controller related issues. I was told to return it immediately as it is defective. I noticed my Series X/S controllers also do not have this issue, just a side note. As someone who has to drive a distance to even reach my local Best Buy and also pay tolls to get across bridges, this is infuriating at the lack of quality control that Microsoft offers on their products. I’ve owned several Xbox controllers dating back to the Duke (the original Xbox controller), and besides the original Elite controller have I seen quality control so shoddy. They should fire whomever engineered these controllers, along with the engineer and product designer for the wireless headset (the mic will always break off after time due to poor placement of a screw and soft plastic that bends till it breaks if you ever press the mute button or god forbid move the boom mic in a different position). I love to support all hardware companies, Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, even Valve. But this is a product that I can not recommend if my life depended on it. If you are fortunate enough to receive one in perfect condition, count your blessings. Because after this ordeal, I doubt I will buy any more “Elite” Xbox products, having sunken $420 into their 2 TB SSD, 1 TB SSD, 3 regular controllers, a Series X & S, and another headset after the first one’s mic fell off 3 months after buying it and was told by Microsoft that it’s common but there is nothing they can do. Steer clear of this unless you have the time and means to keep trying if you receive lemons like I and many others have.
