I thought this was a cheap plastic knife, but got it simply for the wheel lock.Well I was wrong, this is a very solid knife, metal chassis, and a really nice weight/feel in your hand.Excellent knife. I also bought the fancy fatmax at the same time, and I think the Milwaukee is just as well made, but has the lock, so is better.

Milwaukee does it again with a great new take on the box-cutter type knife. Utilizing specialized blades which snap off when the end gets dull, this tool replaces the traditional razor blade in the handle box-cutter. I rated value "good" (as opposed to "excellent") only because these blades will cost more than traditional blades, but based on my internet searches the replacement blades are reasonably priced. From my experience using the knife, the blades cut extremely well, even through drywall. They seem to last a bit longer as well. But the true value in this new blade is that you don't have to change it - you just snap the end off with a pair of pliers - the entire process takes less than thirty seconds.Features I liked: 1) the blade locks firmly both in the ... MoreMilwaukee does it again with a great new take on the box-cutter type knife. Locking mechanism constantly comes loose. Olfa is better.
The cutter is made of good quality materials, the metal is thicker than other cutter cheaper and the plastic is very strong and well finished. The metal wheel is made of a piece.
This knife is a little shorter than others I have used, but still fits the hand nicely. The top and bottom have a rubber like plastic so you can grip it easily. The knife has a wheel that clicks when you loosen or tighten it which helps to know when you are turning it. When sliding the blade in and out it isn't that smooth. After loosening the wheel up more than one would think then the blade slides in and out smoothly. The blade is very easy to break off the end when needed. I use mine mostly to cut fiberglass to length and it works great for that.
The Milwaukee snap off utility knife has a metal locking mechanism to keep blade locked in the open and closed position. Unlike most snap off knives this knife has a nice rubber covered handle for a secure grip, a precision cut blade to be sharper and last longer. When you need a new sharp edge just break off the dull tip.The only thing that would make this knife better is if handle had an end that could be used to break off dull tip.
As "Crocodile Dundee" once said, "Now that's a Knoyfe" I agree whole heartedly. In the past I've bought the inexpensive snap-off knives because they take a beating and wear out quickly. This knife is different and I'm glad I have the use of it. The knife body is hefty and strong. The Locking metal screw device is hefty, durable and strong also. When I lock the blade in position it stays there, unmoving. The blade slides in and out effortlessly, great when you have one hand to work with. As far as the blade, I'm still using the first edge. Can't comment on durablity of the knife edge, but, I have been using it for a while and still seems sharp. I'm anxious to try cutting drywall or someting more substantial. I believe the blade will cut fine and last longer then the ... MoreAs "Crocodile Dundee" once said, "Now that's a Knoyfe" I agree whole heartedly. I believe the blade will cut fine and last longer then the lesser expensive blades, evident by the use it's taken recently. If you use a snap-off knife constantly, I recommend the Milwaukee knife and save some aggravation.
This is my first snap off knife, but I am most pleased with the quality of the item for a fairly low price. The handle is excellent, and the locking mechanism is convenient to use. The blade itself is crazy sharp, I tested it on a number of things like cardboard, plastic, mesh. I will try it out on sheet rock soon.
