Milwaukee 300mm (12in) High Tension Hacksaw - 48220050

Saw feels sturdy and well built. I really like that the blade can be removed or turned over for storage with no additional tools. The top of the handle has a blade adjustment that you turn to remove the blade. Great design. I just hope that the blade holes are universal since the only replacement blades I saw were all Dewalt.

I'm NOT a DIY'er but needed to slice off about 4 inches from a metal umbrella stand so ordered this. It did the job handily with a vise holding it steady. A suggestion for those of us who are tool challenged - please put a link address on the package on how to use it and put the blade in correctly! Had to do web search for that info.

A bit doubtful about quality

Tools are not made anymore like they used to. Tools used to be durable, all metal, sturdy, tough. You could put them through just about anything and they would come out of it just fine and last a lifetime. These days, there are plastic hinges, plastic fasteners, plastic connectors, plastic knobs and plastic adjustment things. They are intended to last just long enough that you don't complain too much when you need to replace them. Milwaukee (I think) has held out longer than most. This saw appears to still be all metal, so seems sturdy and durable enough, but yet I do not trust it to last a lifetime. I can't quite put my finger on it, it just FEELS a bit plasticky sometimes. Amazing little tool!

I’m going to preface this review by saying that I have very little experience with saws. I had to make several cuts to a small plastic trash can to create my daughter’s Halloween costume. Initially, I got reciprocating saw thinking I needed something heavy duty, but then got cold feet about having to use one and got this instead and thank god I did because it did the job perfectly. Once I made the initial groove, it was so easy to maneuver it back and forth. Super smooth and very quiet. The edges weren’t rough at all only needed some sandpaper to really smooth everything out. Glad it worked out for this project but it’s a tool most people should probably have around their house anyway!

Cut through 1-1/2" square mild steel bar stock

I had a 1-12"^2 * 6" square bar of mile steel that I wanted to cut a cube from by hand for reasons.I only had a Lennnox mini hack saw in the house. I got the blade mostly inside into the stock on one side and about halfway through on the side adjacent to that before giving up. Next morning I bought this from Home Depot after doing some research on the best hacksaw. I almost picked up the DeWalt, but it was a lot heavier and I figured weight would matter in this application.I started off with a cheap already in use harbor freight blade that was in the Lennox and quickly made MUCH MORE progress. Hacksaw

The handle and blade tightening system is easy and comfortable to use. It may get a bit to clunky to use in tight spaces. I recommend getting a few blades to have ready in its handle storage compartment. Easy to find a fresh blade when you need it. The blade did not last too long and I had to go through several blades to cut the aluminum frame I was working on.The handle is comfortable and it was easy to control the cutting blade

Hacksaw Broke

The tensioner on my hacksaw broke about 4.5 years in. No, I did not over-tighten it. I was able to get a free replacement at a nearby service center. Overall, the saw performed well. However, the internal tensioner bracket that connects to the tensioner knob is undersized (relatively small piece of metal). I do recommend this saw due to overall performance and the warranty. Don't be surprised if the tensioner eventually breaks.

Heavy duty hacksaw without all the complications offered on the competing model made by Dewalt. This saw is simple, straightforward, well built. The blade can be mounted straight or mounted on a 45 degree angle. Blade changes are easy and straightforward. The saw feels strong and well built, maybe a whisker cumbersome but not heavy. This saw clearly carries the quality of the Milwaukee name. I would recommend it.

High Tension Hacksaw

For anybody who needs help. To loosen the tension and remove blade, turn the lever to the left until it's loose enough to remove. To put blade back on you might have to loosen even more, then push down on the lever to close the distance slightly more. 4 stars because the institutions weren't easily accessible.

Solid and Versatile Hacksaw!

This is a well-designed hacksaw which will last forever! The hacksaw frame is a rectangular 1" by 1/2" fixed metal piece (see picture) which is well-secured to each end. This is far superior to the usual thin notched metal frame which allows for rough length adjustment and requires the user to make the final tension adjustment with a wingnut at the handle end. This hacksaw needs only one adjustment through a knob at the top of the handle (see picture). Very easy! Additionally, this hacksaw allows for a 45 degree angle cut by a separate blade attachment point (see picture). It even has storage in the frame for extra hacksaw blades. Ingenious!
