I have the razor switchback and loved it until the screw for driver fell out. I ran it without the driver for a few years but finally got tired of needing it and not having I pulled the trigger on this switchback. So far it’s great and came pretty sharp but could be sharper. The driver is much longer on this knife which is hit or miss depending on application. So it’s living up to my expectations and would recommend!

As I am working around my yard and henhouse I frequently require tools of some sort. So after several years it seemed fitting that I start carrying a pocket knife. This relieves my husband of worrying if one of "his" tools is going to go missing or be misplaced. What I like about the Milwaukee is first of all the color, and that the knife is very sharp and easily accessible. The screwdrivers are so easy to open also. I am very pleased with it and even though it is moderately priced it is very good value.

I use the utility blade one the most and am very happy with it. I used it every day and is always clipped to my pocket. The knife version I keep in my overland rig for camping use. I'm not sure that one for me is as useful even when camping. Not that much need for the screwdriver accessory there and the knife blade is not quite as good as a dedicated knife, but the price is a lot better as well. I absolutely love the the utility one. I wish the screw driver was better quality
23 November 2023

It’s a good idea, but the execution is poor quality. I wish it was heavy duty enough for work. The quarter inch well is too shallow to hold the Philips/flat head. Also, the stem is too thin, it bends loosing screws. The length of the stem is fine, I wouldn’t mind if it were shorter, it can always be extended with an adapter. It really needs a ratcheting driver on the shaft of the screw driver, otherwise in a tight space, with the handle at 90 degrees, it’s cumbersome.

Okay Knife with A Few Flaws
20 August 2020

There are several things that I like about this knife, and several things that I do not like. What I like:1) The pocket clip can be repositioned to the tail of the knife handle. I LOVE this configuration, and this is the first time I have seen it outside of a really expensive (Spyderco) knife.2) The knife feels good in the hand. The grip is comfortable and the knife seems to have a good balance between the lightweight handle and the blade/bit holder/etc.What I do not like:1) The bottle opener. At best, bottle openers added to most items/tools are useless, unnecessary gimmicks, and at worst, they compromise the functionality and integrity of the item/tool. This knife is no exception. At best, bottle openers added to most items/tools are useless, unnecessary gimmicks, and at worst, they compromise the functionality and integrity of the item/tool. This knife is no exception. The bottle opener does two things. First, it reduces the amount of metal on the blade where it pivots in the handle, right where the most stress and (depending on the use) torque are going to be applied to the knife. I have added a close-up shot of the blade where it meets the handle in an attempt to show this. The other thing the bottle opener does is get hung on the inside of one's pocket when drawing it out (when oriented tail up). This is a pocket knife, Milwaukee (added features notwithstanding). Lose the bottle opener. If I need a bottle opener, I'll get a bottle opener.2) The orientation of the liner lock for the bit holder. To disengage the liner lock for the knife, the lock must be pushed to the left, but when disengaging the lock for the bit holder, the lock must be pushed to the right. Not only is pushing a liner lock to the right a less natural and less comfortable motion, I find the inconsistency to be annoying. Both liner locks should be disengaged by pushing them to same direction.3) The weight of the blade when opening the knife. As many have noted, Milwaukee has no business calling this knife a "Fastback." That is blatant false advertising, as this knife is NOT easily (or safely) opened with one hand the way all of the other Fastback knives are. I was able to flick the knife open with one hand, but only by flicking it so hard that I thought I was going to lose my grip and throw the knife across the room. And when I do manage to flick it open, in addition to nearly straining my wrist, the blade opens with such force against the handle that it feels as though something will surely break if I open it that way on a regular basis. I think that losing the bottle opener and leaving that steel in the blade might help add enough weight to the blade to help it open easier. All in all, it seems like a decent, well made (if not so well designed) knife that will be useful. I am curious to see how useful the bit holder/screwdriver feather proves to be over time, and how durable. I would have liked it better if the bit holder were magnetic as well, but we'll see how it does. Also, I would like to see a couple of extra bit options included with the knife (a philips/square or a square/flat). I so rarely use flat-head screwdrivers that it seems a bit of a waste and a bit old fashioned to have only included a philips/flat bit).As for the price point, if the aforementioned improvements are made, I think that then and only then will it be a $25 knife. As it is now, I think that $20 would be more reasonable, especially since its usefulness is potentially severely limited do the the difficulty of one-handed opening.

Very attractive knife. Love the addition of the slotted/Phillips screwdriver. The blade opens easily one-handed with a little practice. The pocket clip is very tight, this won’t ever accidentally come out of the pocket. The blade is perfectly centered when closed, which bespeaks quality manufacture to me. Great value for the money. I don’t know, or really care, what’s type of steel the blade is made from, it cuts, and resharpens easily. I think I’ll be gifting some of these.

Well worth it for me
21 December 2023

I purchased this knife mainly for a basic pocket knife and added bonus for me was the bit driver. For me personaly I found it very handy to always have a bit driver on me to use on primarly for simple auto repairs and home electrical. I found it handy for hose clamps and working with my carburator. The bit driver has a nice lock and is centered to make it nices to use. I may have went with the utility knife with bit driver if I dint already own a few utility knives.

Would be great if it was made with higher quality
1 March 2023

It’s a really good idea that is unfortunately made with super cheap quality. Blade has a ton of play in it, came pretty dull, does not retain edge well, and is not easily “flicked” out like the other fastback knives I own.The screwdriver by far the best part of this, however, even that has issues. The bit retention like others have mentioned is very bad. If you were to slightly swing the handle while screwdriver is out, the bit will go flying out of it.The bit that is included is made of a softer, cheaper metal than the bit included with the much better Milwaukee 6-1 utility version of this. I’d highly recommend that knife over this one any day. It is cheaper in price, 100x more useful, more durable, and actually works well.I ended up returning these 5-1 ... MoreIt’s a really good idea that is unfortunately made with super cheap quality. A knife is like a credit card, don't leave home without one. This one's from Milwaukee tools so you know it'll be a cut (couldn't resist the pun) above many others. It has a straight blade at the tip and some serrations toward the handle. You may want to sharpen the straight blade part a little more, but the serrations are wicked sharp and sharpened on only one side, as they should be. Opposite the blade is an extending socket holder with an included 1/4 inch screwdriver bit that is reversible to provide philips or flat tip. The socket doubles as a 1/4 inch nutdriver. You could carry additional 1/4 inch screwdriver, allen head drivers, square tip drivers or whatever driver bit you need. There are even nut driver socket bits with 1/4 inch drive you could use. There is also a bottle opener slot cut in the blade if you get thirsty. There's a belt clip attached so you could keep it easily accessible. One feature I could not figure out is a hole where the tip of the blade is visible when the knife is folded and a silhouette of a man's head looking at this viewing hole. He seems to be wearing safety glasses, maybe this is a warning that you should as well. I'm looking at this hole and thinking if it went all the way through you could use it as a wire stripper. The body is made of hard plastic so you don't have to worry when working around electricity of it being conductive. So it's a nice sharp knife and it could be adapted to use any drill-driver bit.

21 April 2020

Expect the best from Milwaukee. This knife delivers. The Model 48-22-1540 folding “pocket knife” is the best of six I own. The tanto blade (with a serrated “Sawing” section) is razor-sharp out of the package. The handle is sculpted to provide an extremely comfortable grip and the knife is well balanced in use. The blade liner lock is just large and “soft” enough to permit easy deactivation with a gentle push “down” of the thumb (for a right-handed user). The knife includes a 2-sided screwdriver bit and standard 1/4” hex driver socket on a ~ 2” shaft. The bit holds securely thanks to a “spring grip” inside the socket. The locking tab for the screwdriver shaft is also well sized, but harder to push – and needs to be pushed “up” to close the shaft. That's not an issue ... MoreExpect the best from Milwaukee. The locking tab for the screwdriver shaft is also well sized, but harder to push – and needs to be pushed “up” to close the shaft. That's not an issue depending on how you hold the grip. The handle has a small lanyard hole at the base, and a feature I really like – a dual-position belt clip. It's a small enhancement but relocating the clip makes it easier to grab the knife in the position I need it, rather than requiring me to flip the knife end-for-end to grip it for use. Standard Phillips bit is all that's needed to relocate it. Equally convenient and appreciated is the bottle-cap opener in the blade. It can (wisely) only be used when the blade is safely locked inside the handle. The only minor disappointment is the “flip” action. Unlike my Milwaukee fast-back utility knives, this blade does NOT open with a flip of the wrist. It requires a two-handed action to release the blade and pull it out, despite being advertised as “press and flip”. I'm hoping it will loosen up with use, but lubricant didn't help and I found it impossible to loosen the Torx-head screw on either side of the blade. In spite of that I can easily recommend this 5-in-1 pocket knife!
