This M12 Fuel Hammer drill is not my primary drill but I am finding myself using is more and more due to small foot print and strong enough power for a lot more task than I expected. This is drill carry around all day. I get the M18 only a few times per day now that I started to use this new drill. I like most of it, the only downside to is is that I am never a fan of the e-clutch I prefer old style clutch.Recently I had the drill in my hand when I needed to install a dishwasher and run a new pipe thru a cabinet wall. The drill handled perfectly the hole saw and surprisingly I had enough power for that one tast.I recommend it to many

For a drill that's heavier than pretty much any other 12V drill currently on the market the performance is middling. But its performance is ok. I want light weight and good ergonomics in 12V and this tool with its heft and top heavy design doesn't cut it. The light is dim, poorly positioned and goes out too quickly for detailed work. The clutch is perhaps the worst part of drill. I'm totally fine with an electronic clutch. The problen with this clutch is that drill speed is tied to the clutch setting. The lower the clutch setting, the longer the ramp up and the lower the top speed. I don't want the clutch to influence drill speed. That's what the variable speed trigger is for. For larger bits and hole saws I prefer to drill with the clutch set so a bind won't wrench my wrist.Overall I find nothing good about this drill other than it being part of the M12 system of tools.

Overall, the Milwaukee 2504 is a high quality tool that performs very well. It is heavy for a subcompact drill, but I believe that is more a result of quality materials and construction than anything else. Even with an XC battery, it is still over a pound lighter than the M18 Gen III hammer drill (2804), and is a wee bit shorter in both length and height. It has the features you would expect from Milwaukee - an all-metal ratcheting chuck, an adjustable clutch with lots of settings, a two-speed gearbox, an LED light and a belt clip. I never had any problems with the settings or the chuck...they all worked just fine! The 2504 is fantastic for drilling applications. Plop an XC battery on this and you'll have all the power and runtime you need for small-to-medium tasks, and even some heavy ones. This drill handles standard bits and spade bits up to 1" or so like a champ. It will even bore 2-1/8" holes through a 2x4...on low. The drill can handle it no problem but the battery protection kicks in on high...considering this is a 12V drill I can't complain. Just be wary that this drill does not have a provision for a side handle so you may need to get creative in order to avoid wrenching your wrist if it binds up. It's the price you pay for the subcompact profile.Driving fasteners is a bit of a pain due to slow ramp-up when using the electronic clutch. The clutch works well, but there is a ramp-up even on the highest clutch settings and it gets painfully slow on the lower settings (even in speed 2), no matter how hard you squeeze the trigger. I think the idea here was to maximize control for precision screwdriving tasks, but ultimately it ends up just taking forever to put screws in. My M18 hammer drill (the 2804) also has a ramp-up on the lower clutch settings, but it is much better balanced in terms of speed vs. power.Aside from that, I never warmed up much to the ergonomics of the M12 grips...unless you have extremely large hands, they are a bit awkward to handle, especially when coupled with the angled head. However, that is a consequence of using the more compact handle-mounted battery instead of a traditional slide pack.In short, the 2504 is a fantastic drill. You won't find a more powerful one in a 12V line, and the M12 line has tons of excellent tools so is worth getting into if you aren't already. There are better options for screwdriving, though. If you are looking to drive lots of screws into wood or sheet metal, then the 2551 Surge or the 2553 impact driver are better options. If you are looking for something for precision driving, I would look at the 2505 installation driver.

Ive been transitioning from dewalt to the milwaukee, specifically the m12 line of tools. I have 9 or 10 m12 tools now and they’ve all been awesome except for this drill. The form factor is great, it has enough torque for most medium and light work… but the clutch…the clutch is so bad. Bad enough that I’m not sure why this drill even has a clutch? The lower the clutch setting, the slower the drill seems to take to get up to speed. and the delay, its like it has to wake up. Even in drill mode the drill sometimes is slow to spin up, but if i immediately pull the trigger again it is quick, it’s hit or miss. The chuck has its quirks too. when tightening down on bits, it some times (most times) seems to tighten, then slip loose and tighten again. After i bought the drill ... The chuck has its quirks too. when tightening down on bits, it some times (most times) seems to tighten, then slip loose and tighten again. After i bought the drill i thought it was a lemon, I started reading reviews and other people reported the same behavior so ive just learned to live with it. I keep checking milwaukee’s site, hoping that they’ve released a new version that solve the clutch issues. that’s why i’m here.
Very powerful drill, especially with 4.0 or 6.0 batteries. It has one big letdown, and that's the electronic clutch. It's basically useless. If for any reason, like varying hardness of the material you are fastening, you reach the cutoff point of the clutch, it stops the drill. But you can't just click it one step tighter, it won't start back up. So you end up having to step it up several levels in the clutch to get it to start driving the screw, but then you are too at too high a setting and it overtightens the fastener. You are forced to back the screw out, set the clutch tighter, try again, and again, till you get it right. On a traditional clutch, you don't have to back out the fastener.
I'm a major fan of Milwaukee tools having used them all during my career as an electrician. I started buying them for my home use in 1978 and still have those first drills and Sawzall. Now that things are moving to battery, I started buying those tools as well since many of my M-12 and M-18 batteries are still providing good service. I bought this hammer drill as a replacement for my corded version and am incredibly happy with its features including the option of using it as a regular drill and really appreciate the variable clutch for driving screws. I get great run time out of this brushless model and believe me there is a difference between brushed and brushless! The hammer drill setting works well for drilling in concrete anchors and Tapcons. Milwaukee's M12 FUEL Hammer Drill/Driver packs a lot of power for it's compact size and being a 12 volt powered tool. The brushless motor outputs 1700 RPMs and 350 in. lbs of torque which is more than enough performance that you need for a huge range of applications. The tool is compact and light weight at only 2.3 lbs which makes for easy work. The drill has a 1/2 in metal chuck for great bit retention. It's very compact in size which allows you to get into tighter work spaces and still have the power that you need.I like to run a hammer drill/driver test on 6 inch concrete using a mason bit, I ran a 1/4 bit into concrete with this hammer drill and it punched through with ease. I was pretty surprised at how much power the drill packs when drilling into masonry, I never feel like it's over working the tool. The drill is super compact and light weight when compared to my M18 version of the same tool. I do feel like anything over 3/8 drilling into masonry will put too much stress on the tool where as the M18 version I don't feel that way. I always run the tool with a 6.0 battery and it runs all day for the most part. This little guy packs a powerful punch and I can't see what practical job it won't be able to tackle!!
Using Dewalt all my life I figured I would give milwaukee a try purchasing their brushless impact/hammer drill combo kit with the free 3/8 cordless ratchet because the ratchets are super convenient and nice to have, but that's about where it ends. The drill and impact are terrible. They both have very slow ramp up speeds. The impact is very hesitant when trying to remove panel screws from an aircraft which are only torqued to around 50 to 90in lbs. You have to start slow to be sure you aren't going to strip the screw and time after time the motor would hit some kind torque limit at slow speed and the impact just stops. You have to release the trigger to start it again. As for the drill, most drills you can set the clutch setting and it will click and stop turning at ... As for the drill, most drills you can set the clutch setting and it will click and stop turning at a certain torque when installing screws and you are able to get the screws to the range of torque you need them. This drill has does not do that at all. Even set at 2 I can still over torque the screw, not to mention the torque difference depending on if you have the speed set to 1 or 2. There is significantly less torque with it set to speed 2 but yet again there is no limiter like on other drills. If you get the drill up to full speed on 1 or 2 it also changes the torque of which it outputs. Overall these are awful. I have used previous milwaukee drills and impacts and they work well but not these. I am returning the combo kit and going to a different brand however I am very upset that I ha e to return the ratchet. This is by far one of the best cordless ratchets I have used. I can't say enough good things about them. I am a little angry that I have to return the ratchet with the kit and buy a whole new one at such an extreme price.
I was loving this drill, small size, good power and battery life. I had been using it at work for about 5 days, pretty light duty. Drilling two to three 1/4" holes through an exterior wall and 20-30 screws or so a day. Definitely not a construction site or tool abused. Was on my ladder and reached down for my drill, the flipping trigger was missing. Found I laying on the ground 2-3 feet away. This thing has hit the ground twice from slipping out of my belt onto mud/grass maybe 3 feet max, no cause for concern, its a drill... The trigger broke in the same place everyone else's has. Must be a defective injection mold or something. The plastic looks like it just snapped no discoloration or other signs flexing just a brake point like it was overly brittle. Bought it jan ... Returning it to HD for round two in the morning going to test it before I leave the store. Will update if need be. And post serial numbers.
This isn’t your average hammer drill. It’s got the settings of most hammer drills, hell it even has the function of most hammer drills. Fact of the matter is…This is not your grandfathers hammer drill. No ma’am. Wether you’re looking for speed or accuracy to get the job done. This tool drills it home that it is clearly worth it’s value. Never mind the fact that if the battery is dead, the drill itself can be used as a hammer! Talk about versatility! I plan on buying one for my niece for her 6th birthday party, my grandmother for her 97th. I might buy a few and donate ‘em to the next “toys for tots”. Sorry your parents aren’t around anymore kiddo; but guess what!? You got yourself a Milwaukee hammer drill. You can build yourself a home now!
