I made the switch from dewalt to Milwaukee about a year ago and now have a nice collection of 18v and 12v Milwaukee fuel tools. So far I have been very pleased, however I recently bought a kit with both this and the right angle die grinder. Both of these tools are perfectly useable for light sanding or buffing with 2" disks, rust removal etc. They are compact, lightweight with little vibration and low noise, I like the rpm adjustability the paddle style switch that mimics std air tools. The problem is the fact that Milwaukee claims that this puts out 1/3 hp and will outperform the pneumatic competition claiming "The die grinder delivers 20% more power than pneumatic competition" (referencing 1/4 hp pneumatic die grinders)I have a lot of pneumatic die grinders ... MoreI made the switch from dewalt to Milwaukee about a year ago and now have a nice collection of 18v and 12v Milwaukee fuel tools. Again you can purchase a pneumatic die grinder from harbor freight that will definitely outperform and probably outlast these Milwaukees. But if all you want is the convenience of a cordless tool and will only be doing very light work with it you can buy it at a premium here.

I had various other tools I tried to make do with for jobs this die grinder would be handy with and they were always a chore. I would sometimes use someone else's pneumatic diag grinder but that was cumbersome with the air lines. Finally broke down and got this and man is it awesome. Variable speed feature is very handy and this thing has a lot of strength. Helps me complete certain tasks in a fraction of time that it used to.

This is a great die grinder. I just wanted to point out that in the specifications/features listed here, on Ohio Power Tool are incorrect in two cases. This tool is not variable speed - it is 3-speed and it does not have a spindle lock. You must use the two included wrenches to tighten and loosen the collet. Only the top-tier M18 die grinder has both the variable speed and spindle lock. The lesser of the two M18 die grinders has a spindle lock, but it does not have variable speed — it has only one speed. These things should be corrected on this site for each of the tools I mentioned, plus the right angle M12 die grinder.

Last reviewer is incorrect about collect chuck getting stuck & a flexing tool center. There are multiple videos about these two features that illustrate that it is part of the design of the tool from a safety standpoint and from a vibration standpoint. I think it’s even in the instruction manual but maybe it’s only the chuck loosening procedure. This is a great and powerful brushless grinder. Brushless puts it in a class by itself, because brushless by design has 20% or more, more powerful, plus the brushes can’t wear out. The chuck is a safety chuck, which means it’s designed to hold the bit in, even if the chuck accidentally loosens up.So when you loosen the chuck which takes about a quarter of a turn, you have to turn the chuck an additional 1/2 turn to where ... MoreLast reviewer is incorrect about collect chuck getting stuck & a flexing tool center. The chuck is a safety chuck, which means it’s designed to hold the bit in, even if the chuck accidentally loosens up.So when you loosen the chuck which takes about a quarter of a turn, you have to turn the chuck an additional 1/2 turn to where it meets resistance again and then turn that a quarter of a turn more which then releases the bit. Very simple to do. There’s a video on YouTube about this from numerous people. The flexible center area is designed into the tool this way to minimize vibration. It also is discussed in the numerous YouTube videos. I am a master mechanic, and I have found this tool to be powerful, low vibration, quick, and easy to use. The design even covered the air intake vent holes with a mesh , so metal filings do not get into the tool. This is what ruins many of the other competing tools including my Dremel grinder. There is also an adapter out in the marketplace that will allow you to use 1/8 bits as well as the quarter inch bits. I especially like that this is a quarter inch grinder. My only complaint about this product is that the safety cut out cuts off when you’ve overloaded the device where is a plug-in grinder that uses 110 AC power does not have that cut out. But it’s a small trade-off to being cordless.
I purchased this die grinder to replace an air powered die grinder I had been using. My first impression is I should have had a battery powered one a long time ago. Not having to deal with an airline was an immediate plus. The power of this die grinder is quite good considering it is 12 volt powered. Being able to regulate the speed by varying the pressure on the trigger as well as the placement of the squeeze trigger adds to the functionality of the tool. I have not used it a lot, but the few times I have, I have been impressed with it and am glad I purchased it.
The straight die grinder works very well. My application requires use of a die grinder for contouring repairs on molding tooling while in service. Until now I used air driven motors and had to continually run air lines to the work area. With this tool I am now able to perform mobile repairs without the need of hoses and cords, which, in itself is nice not having the tripping hazards. Upon using the grinder i found it has better torque than the $800 air motor previously being used and now I don't have the exhaust air stirring debris as I perform grinding. I was used to the M18 tooling and thought the M12 would not have power, but after using this for the last month am very pleased with the power amd even the battery life is good. My longest constant use is about a 15 minute repair time and the grinder runs the entire time without slowing. In the past month I have gone from just using carbide burrs to adding other uses like, cutoff wheel arbors for cutting all thread, and keystock, and wire brush attachments for removing debris from resin coated tooling. After a few weeks of use I bought a 90 degree die grinder to replace my 90 degree air motor and am finding it works very well too for my need.
If you don’t want to fight an air hose this is the tool for you! This little die grinder is a sweet addition to your toolbox. It’s comfortable to use and can reach into some tight spots! The only annoying thing is with a metal cutoff wheel the tool is incredibly sensitive to any kind of slight binding and it will shut itself off. Other than that this thing is great! I paired mine with a 4.0 and 5.0 high output and it does great! The last I used it I had to use a metal cutoff wheel and cut nuts off of some strut towers and it did fantastic!
Used it a second time to grind out a door lock strike plate. Used a carbide but, and when done it was near impossible to remove the bit. The bit is near 20 dollars these days and got lucky I removed it without damage. Basically had to pry it up using 2 open end wrenches. This is the exact same problem as the angle die grinder that I also have. I have also noticed that the center of the tool is flexing where the halfs meet up. Screws are tight so not sure if this is how it is or just the flex causes the slop between the parts. Not very reassuring if this was getting regular use. Again I have used this 2x on very light jobs, maybe a total of 3 minutes of on time. Also spoke with another user of this too and they said the same about the "Defective" collet and near ... MoreUsed it a second time to grind out a door lock strike plate. It appears that Milwaukee keeps deleting my reviews of this product and the 90° version of it.So I'm going to keep posting my review every time it gets deleted.Bought these shortly after they came out. They claimed to have 20% more power than a 1/4 HP pneumatic.. The claim is false these tools are incredibly weak And even the lightest pressure with small abrasives The smallest cutting wheels will stop it. On the other hand even the cheapest and smallest 1/4hp pneumatic die grinders significantly outperform them. I rarely ever use them because they are so weak they are simply not worth the time getting them out of the box and attaching a battery to.. very sad because I have a lot of Milwaukee tools that perform amazingly. I'm just surprised that Milwaukee is still ... MoreIt appears that Milwaukee keeps deleting my reviews of this product and the 90° version of it.So I'm going to keep posting my review every time it gets deleted.Bought these shortly after they came out. This would be an amazing tool if it weren't for the two part body design. If you use this tool a lot on a professional level, cleaning welds, resizing holes or slotting holes, and so on, it will come apart on you very quickly. Both my personal die grinder I use in my home shop, and our die grinder at work are now in two pieces. The one at work only lasted one project before it fell apart. This is really an expensive hobbyists tool only good for very light duty work. The only thing that holds the two halves of this tool together is a little rubber ring that sits in the joint between the two halves. Real bad design. Get your self the large die grinder. Milwaukee, please redesign this tool and make it have a one piece body.
