Great tool and stable. I run this on the XC 8.0 ah battery, and it runs for a long time for 1/2" plywood. the grip has great curvature for my palm to comfortably rest my hand. I really appreciate the 'start' and 'stop' feature. The 'blower' feature for clearing away chips from the blade seems to work less well than I expected. However, I've only used the reciprocating and not the oscillating reciprocating feature, so far.Tip for Milwaukee.. please, create an attachment or a tool that aids the tool to rest flat when attempting to cut at an angle from an edge, especially, when needing a straight edge cut. An excellent lightweight highly mobile jig saw. The barrel grip facilitates intricate work - and a wide range of speeds and oscillations makes cutting different densities and grain patterns a simple matter of selecting the right combination. A particular asset is the "A" mode where speed varies with blade face pressure... An M18 tool, this saw cuts far on a single charge. The T-slot blade locks securely with a quick lever push and a bonus feature is spring ejection of the old blade! Milwaukee brand blades are tough, but the T-slot is standardized to accept your Lenox / Morse / DeWalt and other blades. The sole cover is a nice touch; far superior to paste board and tape. I actually use it not to protect the work, but to protect the nice composition insert in the tool base from rough or rusty / scaly material I may cut. Unlike a D-handle jig saw with a bevel locking lever, a barrel jig saw requires bevel adjustment by inverting the tool and applying a hex key plus trial-and-error. Fortunately that is relatively infrequent. And the 5.0 Amp-hour battery limitation (for bevel work) is hardly an imposition unless you're engaged in heavy production work. I did find the clear acrylic blade guard and splinter guard somewhat "fussy" to install. I don't think i'll be switching them in and out often. The work light is bright and convenient. The sawdust blower option works swell when you're following a tracing; but the vacuum attachment is less secure than desirable. I like the automatic lock ON without continuous pressure - and the same switch (ambidextrous, at that) quickly engages OFF. The full 1-inch stroke clears sawdust very effectively and seems to reduce cutting time. With a low grip and its blade at the front end, there is very little tendency for the tool to overturn about the blade, making its use much more visible (hence more accurate) and less tiring. This tool is a great asset and a big gain in a tradesman's comfort.

This jigsaw definitely accomplishes what I need it for, which is cutting. Cuts are accurate and it has plenty of power. But I really regret not getting the regular D-handle jigsaw instead - entirely due to this machine's on/off switch. It is only on or off, with no trigger that I can release. And the odd placement of where the switch is means that if I have a hand on my waste piece to keep it from falling hard onto the floor, which occasionally I do, I can't turn the machine off safely until I put the piece down. There's a learning curve, and I've definitely gotten better at managing this, but it still often feels not safe to have the jigsaw buzzing away in a situation where I don't always have a hand on the off switch. And besides, the off switch is awkward to hit. ... MoreThis jigsaw definitely accomplishes what I need it for, which is cutting. Cuts are accurate and it has plenty of power. And besides, the off switch is awkward to hit. It's this odd pull mechanism. No idea why it isn't a button that I can push or a switch I can flip. I've for sure gotten better at it, but I wish desperately it had a trigger with a trigger lock. It feels unsafe to use even when it's going well. Technically it does its job but I 100% recommend the D-handle. Don't know why Milwaukee felt like reinventing this tool. Don't do that until you can do it right!
Great saw, powerful and precise. Feels really solid in the hand. The on/ off switch and bulky handle took some getting used to but it became fairly intuitive after the first few uses. I really like the way the handle orients the hand slightly above and behind the blade as opposed to up high on a D style handle. It just makes the cutting feel more precise.Only real gripe is the weight, it’s quite heavy. And the barrel shape took some getting used to as well, I’ve only ever used the D style jig saws in the past. It’s not a deal breaker though. Like pretty much any tool, you get used to whatever you use.
I bought this to use for finish trim, specifically for back cutting baseboards and crown moulding. This makes the job of back cutting so much easier then using a coping saw, the handle is much more comfortable then a traditional jigaw and has better response due to it being lower to the material being cut. The handle is a more natural fit for fine cutting compared to a traditional jigsaw. I used some older 2ah batteries for this due to reduced size and weight. I'd recommend these over CP 3.0 batteries and 5ah XC batteries. The 2ah batteries lasted longer then I thought and they charge fast enough in rapid chargers to where an operator would only need two batteries. The light works well, casts a good shadow line of where the tool will cut. Dust extraction works well ... MoreI bought this to use for finish trim, specifically for back cutting baseboards and crown moulding. Dust extraction works well with the attachment, however I didn't use it on the job and just blew the dust out of the way while cutting. Overall, it's another great product of the M18 series and it's replacing my Milwaukee corded jigsaw for contract work as I'm slowly cutting the cord on my power tools.
This could be a very good jig saw however, the short comings are something that you just can't ignore. I like Milwaukee very much and I have a lot of Milwaukee products. The expectation is that Milwaukee Tools are reliable and have solid fitment.I've been through six of the M18 barrel grips recently:The first one was good. Until I was coping one day and while in the wood the collet lost hold of the blade and threw it at my face. When the blade ejected the wood was damaged. So, I made another cut, and grabbed a new blade (Diablo) and got back to it - inserted the blade and pulled on it several times to ensure it was fully seated. Again, while in the wood, the collet lost hold of the blade and threw it at my face. That's with the new blade; it's not the blade, it's ... MoreThis could be a very good jig saw however, the short comings are something that you just can't ignore. Again, while in the wood, the collet lost hold of the blade and threw it at my face. That's with the new blade; it's not the blade, it's the machine. I exchanged it for another M18 barrel grip. I should of checked the machine before I left the store - when I got it out of the box later, the collet that holds that blade was visibly out of square. This isn't worth powering on. There is no way you can make accurate cuts with a machine that is out of square, so I took this machine back the next day. That's #2.When I went to exchange the above machine, the store didn't have any. Now I'm driving to another location to exchange this machine. I explained to customer service the issue, and showed them. They went and got a replacement M18 barre grip jig saw. Again, I should have taken it out of the box and inspected it (which you shouldn't have to). Later in the day when I opened the box, the plastic that meets and is supposed to be flush and nice fitting up front was anything but. There was about an 1/8" gap where the plastic is suppose to meet below the blade release lever. Again, this was not worth powering on, so I took it back to the store I got it from the next day. That's #3.I go to take the above jig saw back and I showed customer service the fitment issue. They grabbed a replacement. Great. I briefly looked at the machine at the customer service desk and it looked alright. Later in the day when I went to use it, before powering the machine on I noticed that the blade and blade guard were not inline...by about 1/2". It was canted. When you make your initial cut, the guard gives you a pretty good idea of where the blade is going to land...or it should anyway. It was so far out of alignment that bending it would have damaged the machine. So again, I take take it back. That's #4.I figured perhaps...perhaps, these store got a bad allocation so I drive about 45 minutes to exchange the saw at another store. I explained to customer service the issues I've been having. Together with the manager, we inspected several saws and picked the one that had acceptable fitment and that was in square (we shouldn't have to bring a square in to verify square on a jig saw). So we've located a replacement that has acceptable fitment and that is in square. That's #5.The following day, while coping, the #5 decides it's unhappy and partially ejects a blade (blade canted in the collet). I reseated the blade and tugged on it and went to make an upright cut - the blade canted to about 45° - I was able to take video of that. I took #5 back to the store I got it at. That store didn't have any more so they looked and gave me the address to a store that had a few to choose from. I go to that store. Again, with employees, we are inspecting for fitment and square. We found one, and here we are. That's #6.I haven't used #6 yet. Hopefully it doesn't have a fit and throw a blade at my face.I have the M18 Fuel D Handle Jig Saw as well and I have not had any issues with it.The good:•Motor - plenty of motor.•Auto speed setting (ramps up once the blade is in material.•Brief touch of the switch turns the light on for sighting.•M18 Fuel platform. The bad:•No cutout in the no-mar shoe for tool access. You'll have to do this yourself to ease bevel changes.•Light doesn't turn off. There's an insert to block the light. There should be a On/Off button.•Allen is required to make bevel changes.•Unfortunately, reliability.•Quality control. If a few things were addressed...sooner rather than later...this would be an excellent barrel grip jig saw.
The slide on/off feature is not user-friendly. A trigger grip would be better. As I was trying to put a blade in, I was holding it with one hand and using the other hand to release the lock on the blade and when I squeezed it, it turned on luckily I did not cut my fingers open. the on/off switch is not user-friendly instead of just a squeeze trigger, Which would make stopping and starting easier and safer. I will be returning this to Home Depot and buying one with a trigger
Overall good feeling and control to it but the power output is well below cheaper jigsaws like the brushless Kobalt and Ryobi I have. It gets hotter, eats batteries, and is just less effective in the end. I've tested side-by-side in the same cuts/blades that bog this down. I had high hopes. It's been about a year now and I try again every so often. On the plus side, it does a better job of keeping the blade straight than the Kobalt. For reference, I've been using it was a 3Ah high-output.
I had originally purchased the 2445-20 M12 Jig Saw and just like everyone else I discovered the first Milwaukee Tool I was disappointed with. It was so bad that I thought I simply had forgotten how to use a jig saw. After reading review after review of people having the same complaint as me I went ahead and purchased the 2737B. Man, I should have bought this jig saw the first time. Night and day difference. Cuts true and straight, it came with the vacuum attachment (although theres a slight issue with that too), and the blower option to keep your cutting area clear so you can see the line. I'm committed to Milwaukee tools and their battery platform so I'm really happy this jig saw performs so well. It's larger than I had anticipated, but not so big its not ... MoreI had originally purchased the 2445-20 M12 Jig Saw and just like everyone else I discovered the first Milwaukee Tool I was disappointed with. I'm committed to Milwaukee tools and their battery platform so I'm really happy this jig saw performs so well. It's larger than I had anticipated, but not so big its not maneuverable. I think the size shock was just coming from the M12 platform saw. The adjustable speed works just fine, but I just set it on a speed and didn't leave it on auto. I haven't played with the different orbital cutting settings yet so I can't speak to that. The angle detents seem good and positive locking. It fits well in my hands (I wear size large to XL leather work gloves) and feels like a solid tool in your hand. All in all super happy with the purchase, but there are some things to improve on here. First, I hate the way you start and stop the saw with the slide button. As many other reviewers have said, I can't discover any configuration of my hands that allows me to have the saw in place and then start it. You have to take your hand away from where you'd have it to cut, start the saw, and then put it back. Same to stop it as well. So Milwaukee if you're listening get rid of that ridiculous toggle switch and the speed dial and just put a variable speed trigger on it. If this had a trigger it'd be nearly perfect. Now the other issue is I tried to use the dust collector and an HD9.0 battery and the battery blocks the port for the dust collector attachment, so I had to use an old XC5.0 then I could get the attachment and hose connected. Not a huge deal unless you're working somewhere you have to use dust collection and only have large capacity batteries with you. Those are my only two complaints about the tool so far. Blade release works just fine like any other quick attach/detach saw. So yeah, if you're already invested in the Milwaukee battery platform and you're looking for a solid and reliable jig saw I'd say you'd be very happy with this saw.
