MindShift Gear Backlight Backpack 26L - Charcoal
Take your camera out with you, thanks to the Think Tank BackLight 26L Photo Daypack Gray. In this backpack, there's room for a mirrorless camera or SLR camera with 4 to 6 lenses. With the included dividers, you can organize it to your liking. You can even put a 16 inch laptop in the laptop compartment. Attach a tripod to the sides or the front of the backpack, so you can easily take it with you on a walk, for example. For an extra carrying comfort, click the waist belt and you're less likely to suffer back problems. While wearing the waist belt, you can easily turn the backpack to your stomach. This way, you can grab your camera without taking your backpack off. This is useful for when it's raining and the ground is muddy, for example.

I never do review on web shop sites but I noticed that WEX finally stocked this bag and thought it was worthy of a review.I have been using the Mindshift Backlight for over a year now, during that time it has been to the remote Russian tundra twice on conservation projects as well as various other projects. This bag is just built with an outdoor photographer in mind. You can fit a surprising amount into this bag while still being airline carry on suitable. The straps are comfortable, but the biggest thing is the access to the main compartment, you can access it by spinning it around on your waist to keep the bag off the ground (helpful as I do a lot of work in wetlands) or you can place it on the ground, but importantly not getting the back section wet or muddy. ... MoreI never do review on web shop sites but I noticed that WEX finally stocked this bag and thought it was worthy of a review.I have been using the Mindshift Backlight for over a year now, during that time it has been to the remote Russian tundra twice on conservation projects as well as various other projects. Highly recommend.

I recently used the MindShift Gear BackLight 26L Backpack (Charcoal) for a convention in Las Vegas. I carried two a7iv's with 28-200 lenses, a charger, battery, two water bottles, and snacks for over 30 miles of walking and the pack was comfortable the entire time. The backpack's design allowed for easy access to my camera gear and the well-padded straps and back panel made it easy to carry all of my items without any discomfort. One thing I really appreciate about this backpack is that it doesn't have the normal overtly sleek tech look to it, but has more of an outdoorsy vibe which is nice and can help you not stand out or look like a target for tech thieves. This backpack is very well made with excellent materials, zippers, internal separators bound with high-grade Velcro, etc. For me, the size is nearly perfect: it stores the gear I want for day hikes with room for a light jacket or gloves, lots of external connectors, and accommodates a tripod in multiple ways. Others have commented on the pocket on the very top of the bag because it is relatively tight. I use it for a compass, which I always bring on serious hikes. Its dedicated laptop slot easily accommodates my Dell XPS 15 laptop with an external SSD attached. It comes with a rain cover.

I bought this bag to replace another bag that I had for many years. This bag has a different configuration but stills all the tools I need for photography. Interesting variation on having the bag open from the rear. I can certainly see the advantages. Appears to have plenty of room for my laptop, tripod, and other gear. The shoulder and waist bands are well padded and comfortable. Looking forward to many different adventures with the bag.
Lens access via surface that fits against my back means keeping mud off my clothing when I put the pack back on. Belt strap works well. Good padding against my back. Straps and bungees make attaching a tripod easy whether on the side or back when not needed until reaching destination. Separate tripod suspension straps work well when needing repeated access to tripod while walking . Thought about the 36L version, but this size holds what I need for day excursions and pretty much holds the maximum weight I can manage anyway. Big upgrade from an earlier non-photo day pack.
I've had the pack for almost a year and the stitching on the bottom loop of the daisy chain on the shoulder harness came undone, cost me $20 to have it fixed at a local shop (yes, Mindspring would have covered under warranty, but shipping would have been more than $20; they refused to reimburse me). That shouldn't happen on a pack that costs this much. I'm a bit concerned that the stitching on the daisy chains on the back of the pack seem to be showing a bit of loosening, although none have started to become completely unstitched the way the front one did. The fit seems fine - I'm 6', 180#, 21 torso measurement. The pack itself is good, even very good, but could use a few tweaks. The photo-backpack part is excellent. The fit seems fine - I'm 6', 180#, 21 torso measurement. The pack itself is good, even very good, but could use a few tweaks. The photo-backpack part is excellent. It feels good hiking for hours with 25+ pounds of camera gear and incidentals (was out for 6 hrs, 13 miles, yesterday). I carry a D500 with 16-80, Benro C2691 t w/Acratech GP-ss, wireless remote, filter case, plus either a 200-500 if expecting wildlife or 70-200 2.8 if just going for scenery; either way, it has room for an additional lens - when I use my D610 instead, I swap the 16-80 for a 24-120 and add my 16-35 ultra-wide, along with whichever long lens seems appropriate. The bag is also great as a photo carry-on when flying (although, when the bag was searched in Amsterdam, it took about 10 minutes to go through all the pockets). My complaint is with the non-photo part - I wish Mindspring added a bit more fabric to the sides so the bag could expand a bit more; it is snug to fit a raincoat, rainpants, fleece or other 2nd layer, and lunch/snacks into the pack, even with neither computer nor tablet. My Clik Elite Contrejour 35 is the boss in this regard - the non-photo part compacts down very well, but can balloon out to handle a weekend camping trip. I don't need that amount of expansion, but enough for rain gear + an extra layer should be a minimum. The other nit is the lack of vertical cross-stitching on the outside webbing of the hip straps - anything attached to the strap is free to slide around. A few usage notes - I use a 2-liter platypus in a water-proof bag in one of the side pockets on longer hikes, hanging it from a biner in the loop where the side compression strap is attached to the pack frame so the weight is on the frame, not the pocket; I run the hydration tube through the biner as well. I use a PeakDesign CapturePro w/Pro pad (awesome product), along with an Op/Tech USA backpack connector system as a safety tether. The worthless little zippered pocket on the top of the bag is great for pre-moistened lens cleaner wipes. While the built-in strap for holding the top of the tripod is nice, in works best when the tripod is as taller or taller than the pack, which leads to catching the tripod on branches etc when ducking under them; I ran a strap across the top part of the daisy chain web on the back so I can carry my Benro with its legs reversed, keeping the head below the top of the pack.
This bag is perfect for holding everything the average photographer needs. I’m traveling to Europe and wanted a bag that could fit most of my kit and a few extras for the plane. I also wanted something that I could use for my day trips back home while being comfortable to wear. I haven’t travelled with it yet, but I have walked around the house and my neighborhood with it fully loaded and it feels comfortable. I can fit a 6d mkii with a 70-200L 2.8 ii, 24-105L, 100L macro, lee filters, g7x mkii, batteries and chargers for both cameras, battery grip off camera, extra wires and cards, etc. That is all in the main camera compartment. I plan on getting a 16-35 wide angle lens in the future and that will certainly fit in with a little rearranging of things. I was debating between this and the LowePro protactic series. The major difference on the surface were the ability to access the camera from the side pockets with the lowepro vs the rear entry of the mindshift gear. After trying out both in person I felt like the mindshift has easier access even though it didn’t have the side or top access pockets. My thought is that I most likely won’t keep putting my camera away and then taking it back out multiple times. If I do need access I can swing the bag around while keeping the waist strap buckled to have quick access. I would buy this bag again 10 out of 10 times. I’m very happy with the size and build quality.

I was afraid the larger bag would get to heavy and I would be bringing gear I really did not need.Construction: Well built. Zippers pull easily and do not bind. Shoulder straps fold out of the way access camera area.Dale
Five stars for the design and construction quality. I can fit a Nikon DX body with 200-500 attached, another DX body with no lens attached, and 16mm wide angle, 18-140 zoom, and 180mm telephoto, plus chargers, small laptop, etc. Only have a couple small quibbles: 1. I wish the total pack was just a little longer, to bring it right up to the max length for carryon baggage. Would provide a little more internal capacity, but would carry better by being long enough to transfer weight to the hipbelt (at least better for me at 6ft). That said, it does transfer weight surprisingly well for being a little short for my height. 2. The bag comes with one long divider that has a built-in crease near one end, making it easy to pack one body with a long lens pointed downward. ... MoreFive stars for the design and construction quality. The bag comes with one long divider that has a built-in crease near one end, making it easy to pack one body with a long lens pointed downward. Ideally, I would like to see both long dividers have these creases on both ends, which would make it possible to pack to bodies with lenses mounted, and stored nose-to-nose. 3. As other reviewers have mentioned, the topmost zipper pocket is quite small. It would fit my passport, but not much of anything else. All that said, I like this much better than my Lowepro 400AW Flipside for carrying the aforementioned photo gear. Definitely a keeper (until mindshift comes out with a Backlight 30L)!
I hold the Canon R6 II with the 100-500 lens attached down the middle, then the hold for the 800 f11 below that. The 800 f11 lens is off to the left side and the right side holds my cleaning supplies and accessories. I'm able to store one spare battery in the top zipper for easy access. It's very comfortable and I don't use the waist strap (I keep it strapped around the bag). I do wish the side pockets could hold a larger bottle, it only holds a standard size plastic bottle. Also, I wish I could remove the waist strap, so 4 stars for those 2 things.
