Adequate for Short Runs

The Mizuno Wave Rider used to be my "go to" runner, but the tweaks over the last few years have led to very inconsistent results. The Wave Rider 26 has brought back some firmness that was missing from the 25, but it verges on being too firm/hard for longer runs (although not as bad as the Wave Riders 20, 21, when I had to switch to New Balance 880s entirely). The 26 will be fine for shorter distances (less than 10k) but still feels too firm for longer runs, which will just end up hurting your feet.

Been using Mizuno wave rider shoes for over a decade to run. First time when I wore them I got blisters all over my foot that haven't gone away in months. Also, I think one of my shoes is defective. Arch feels so uncomfortable and I couldn't "break" them in no matter how many miles I put into it. Never had these issues before. I'm very disappointed and wish I could have my money back to buy the older pair again. The shoes have more support, but it makes them feel heavy when running as well.

Felt the pain running in the new 26s

I've been wearing Mizuno Wave Riders since I started running in 2017. I have wide large feet and these have always felt comfortable and springy as a mid foot striker. They've had some odd years where the material quality wasn't great with weakness in the toe box but overall I've never had any issues despite minor changes. I just retired my two pairs of wave rider 25s. Put on my 26s to go for a 5k. They felt weird. Instantly, I noticed pressure on the inside of both of my heels. It's almost like they reinforced the medial aspect of the shoe. To double check I put on one of my 25s and kept the 26 on the other foot. Very different feel from each other. The 26s are definitely higher around the inside ankle and heel. I didn't notice much on the outside but that may be ... MoreI've been wearing Mizuno Wave Riders since I started running in 2017. After the 5k my legs ached and my feet hurt. After the 7 mile, I had horrible knee pain. My feet have never hurt after a run. And the knee pain was unlike any I'd ever felt. It felt like I was forced to run on the outside of my foot. I hope this is just a fluke year and that next model I can return to my favorite brand of running shoe.

Great running shoe
19 January 2023

I have used the Mizuno Wave Rider for many years. They are always comfortable and remain true to size year after year. This is a great running shoe for all distances and comfortable for walking as well. I like the dark grey colour - not too flashy and goes with everything.

I would not buy this shoe again
19 October 2022

I have been running in these shoes for 15-20 years and they used to be the best. This new version doesn't give the support of the older versions. Inferior quality shoe. Instead of a snug fit it feels wide. No arch support rather lateral foot support pushing arch to collapse.

I'm not sure what happened to the Wave Rider....
2 March 2023

I have been wearing Wave Riders for 10 years, ever since the beloved Wave Rider 16s. They have changed a little each time and some have been "not my favorite" while others have been stellar but it's always been my go to shoe. I've always liked them, until now. The 26s were NOT it. I do not like these shoes at ALL. Wave Riders used to be less squishy and more neutral. In these I feel like I'm bouncing all over the place and my feet are tilting from one side to the other because of the weird cushion. They are passable for a run, and I began my latest race training with them, but I can't stop to walk in them without feeling like my ankle is going to turn and they give me blisters in the toe box. Something is just not right. I just am so disappointed, I planned on ... MoreI have been wearing Wave Riders for 10 years, ever since the beloved Wave Rider 16s. Mizuno running shoes

This pair of shoes is super comfortable with my orthotics. Since l got my orthotics I had a very difficult finding shoes that is comfortable once the orthotics is added. It wasn’t tight and the heel doesn’t lift up due to the orthotics. It is sooo nice to not have sore feet after my walk.

Not the Same Wave Rider
8 December 2022

I have also been running in this shoe for 20 years. Definitely not the same fit. The toe box is much larger, causing everything to slide around and it's not a sizing issue. Every time the model gets an update where Mizuno tries to use "new, lighter, faster" materials, it just doesn't work.I had to buy version 25 again and junk these after two weeks.

Perfect relief for my insertional achilles tendonitis!
18 February 2023

This shoe has a higher heel with a drop of 12mm and just enough cushion. I did take out the manufacturer insole and added my own to make it even more supportive. I have very very high arches and have been suffering for close to a year with achilles problems. I feel no pain walking in these.

Slightly bigger toe box in the 26 is helpful
23 April 2023

I've been running in the 25 and they are okay but the toe box is both a little too narrow and short for me , and my toes have felt too cramped to run more than about 4-5 miles in them at a time . The 26 has fixed that - slightly wider and longer toe box and now I can easily run 6+ miles in them with no discomfort. I can feel the extra cushioning in the forefoot compared to the 25 as well and it really smoothes out the heel to toe transition. I'm really happy with the changes in the 26.
