Moleskine Cahier Large Notebook Set Plain / Brisk Blue

I chose to give this product 3 Stars based on my current purchase (February 2014) I would have given it 5 Stars, however, I feel that the product has changed very slightly since my last bulk purchase in 2013. That slight change is huge in the kind of art work that I do.Since 2011, I have used the "Cashier Notebook" by Moleskine for my daily calligraphy practice--copying poetry, writing thoughts, bible study---you get the idea. Since 2011, I have not noticed any fluctuation in paper style. In this current book, my ink bleeds through, (I used to be able to write on each side of the page), the paper seems silkier and has less weight. I compared it to an older book that I am not quite finished with--I am using the same ink, the same pen, and the ink does not bleed through, and there is more "tooth" to that paper.I have done a "Google search" seeing if other people are experiencing the same frustration. I wrote to Moleskine and there is a generic answer to the question, "Have you changed the paper?" Their answer is understandable (each production of paper is unique based on the temperature and the climate of the day that paper is made) but it does not solve my problem.I want the product to be consistent which is why I chose Moleskine over other brands. When you love paper and pens and ink as much as i do, you notice these little things. It is like getting a haircut and having a few pieces of hair not falling just right. It is bothersome and frustrating like a mosquito bite.I am going to finish up the book I am currently using (bleeding and slick) but i will probably not purchase these Moleskine Cashier books any longer. I will find another brand or make my own.

I use the smaller 5.5x3.5" blank cahier notebooks as lightweight, portable sketchbooks. I always have one on hand. The kraft cover is excellent for drawing on and is a fun way to personalize the sketchbook.I give this 4/5 stars because although the construction of the sketchbook is very well-made, I wish the paper had a bit more thickness and/or tooth to it. Graphite sketches look really nice in this sketchbook, but it does not take colored pencil very well.

I love these journals. They’re slim, light and have beautiful paper stock that’s the right gsm and colour (a warm beige). I travel a lot and need something lightweight yet strong. These journals are great.
