I use Moleskine journals exclusively//daily and am so happy that Blick always has them in stock. The weight of the paper is perfect for writing, collaging, and doodling making these perfect for multimedia artists or just journaling. I wish Blick offered a wider selection of colors, but this is great!! #sweepstakes

The paper for the sketchbook is smooth yet soft at the same time, which means that graphite really penetrates into the paper. Inks and fountain pens also work nice on the paper, the ink does not go through unless you add a lot with a brush(in that case buy the watercolor version). The tone is warm white, leaning towards a khaki color which means that if you take it outside it will not hurt or tire your eyes under direct sunlight. Conte and charcoal work really nice but add fixative unless you want your conte or charcoal drawings to smear. This book is TRULY portable. Adds NO weight to the bag or large pocket that is is being transported in. The paper quality is beautiful accepts pencil, color pencil, pen, and very light washes of color. Erasers beautifully and has an exceptionally lovely feel. The cover is durable and spine opens flat.

I like the qualities of this larger sketchbook. Though there are others that are similar, none of them are exactly like this one. I tried using the smaller version for onsite sketches but it seemed a bit small and wonky for me. Agressive approaches do not work well for this paper. I would suggest dry media with a light to medium touch, as the paper has a tendency to groove with anything having too sharp of a point. I use vine willow charcoal, carbon pencil and graphite sticks with this paper. Drawing holds with little transfer which can be cleaned up with a chamois or a kneadable eraseruntil it can be sprayed with fixative Dries fast.
The Moleskine Classic Notebook is a wellmade portable notebook that is durable for a smallersized notebook. The page quality of the classic notebook is better than most small notebooks this size and has been made with acidfree 2830lb paper quality. Excellent paper for this type of notebook. The elastic quality, rounded corners, and durable hardcover complete the overall quality of the notebook that will last years compared to similar notebooks that are this size.
I heard all the talk about moleskine notebooks and I got this one to try out. It is nicely bound and sturdy but I think it is lacking a bit for me. The paper is a bit thin for my personal tastes and my pens, the dull cream colored paper seems a bit off to me as well. I do like how sturdy it is and how easy to write with in the hand this book is, as well as how stiff the corners are they definitely will not bend in your pocket but that is about my only positive with this book.
Overpriced. I purchased this notebook out of convenience. I will likely look for a different brand or purchasing outlet on my next go around. The quality is good but so are many other brands.
Generally I love Moleskine sketchbooks - I own several - however the paper in this one is SO thin that I can't use it for what I had hoped (sketching & drawing). It is near see-through and wrinkles at the touch. I thought I read the descriptions carefully, but the weight of the paper did not stand out to me as different than what I had purchased here before. Even so, I can't imagine any artist purposely wanting to sketch on this paper.The review is for the sketchbook only, not the site. Dick Blick is wonderful and I'll continue buying my art supplies here, but I would not buy this particular moleskine again.
I use this notebook for sketching and drawing, and so far it's been workin' pretty well! The notebook as a whole is super snazzy and looks really nice, and the quality of the notebook is top notch👌🏻! Even if I use sharpies and alcohol based markers it doesn't bleed through onto the next page. The only downside I've noticed so far is how markers sometimes react to the paper. When using too much ink of a mid toned marker, the ink starts to make a dotted pattern, and I can't figure out why. It's not that huge of a problem though, since it's not all that noticeable unless you really focus on the dots.
My 7 year old grandson didn't like writing. I asked my daughter if it was a motor skill issue or a cognitive issue. As an art teacher it is important to have the write tools. I thought buying him this moleskin along with a beginning lettering set and colored pencils would help him to break through what ever writing blocks he may have. He is now writing daily!
