The B550 chipset is the heart of the ASUS TUF Gaming B550M-PLUS motherboard and has been specifically optimized for Ryzen 3000 series Matisse and 5000 series Vermeer CPUs. B550 motherboards support all features of third- and fourth-generation Ryzen processors, most notably the PCI Express standard version 4.0 (PCIe 4.0). PCIe 4.0 is backward compatible and can be used with all expansion cards from previous generations. Additionally, the motherboards support up to 128 GB of RAM with a guaranteed clock speed of 3,200 MHz. Depending on the motherboard, significantly higher clock speeds are possible with overclocking. The B550 chipset also allows processor overclocking.

You can go crazy by adding extra through the 2 4-pin RGB headers, plus 1 3-pin ARGB header. The effects can be changed in the Armoury Crate software simply enough. The WIFI antenna looks very sleek and is very easy to install. When you have everything set up you may be concerned, as I was, that the WIFI will keep cutting out - this is a Windows power saving feature that you can disable or use LAN or setup Linux as your OS.I also found the manual to be very clear and helpful!Any cons I have stem from the form factor of the board, no multi-GPUs etc, not the board itself. Highly recommended!

The head spreaders are a nice simple metal finish, and the accents aren't over the top. In addition to that, the on board RGB light is not too bright or garish, instead it lets of a subtle amount of light, and compliments any other RGB systems you may have in place.Using the Armoury Crate software is easy and quick to set up, I don't tend to go for anything over the top, so setting the Mobo RGB header, the Wraith Prism RGB header and the 2 strips was as easy as 3 clicks. No need to go back in unless changing it, and you can also flip it between the TUF and the ROG interfaces, whichever one pleases you.Overall, I would have likely gotten it's big brother (the ATX version), but I'm not disappointed with this board. One of the better mATX boards I've seen , and would highly recommend as a result.

Excellent motherboard
12 September 2021

Let me get started with a brief story on how I ended up with this motherboard. First of all I am a first time PC builder. Waited for the right time to buy components and so I did. Parts were bought from different sites. New build did not post. Went to Microcenter to figure out what was wrong, so the original motherboard was not working well. I was recommended by one of the staff members. This motherboard worked like magic. This one had WIFI (the original one I purchased didn’t) and it was much easier to install and get up and running. The quality of the product is off the charts. I could not be any happier with this purchase.

Regardless, after being able to identify the problem quickly, I was able to find a solution. I removed the vga card and booted the system without a card. It will cycle through the boot process several times and then hold on the white vga light because there is no card installed. Turn the system off, insert the card, connect the power, and reboot. The boot will then cycle through the vga and take you to the bios menu. I received a message that said the vga was not compatible with the UEFI, but the computer loaded the bios menu with no problem afterward and has been running fine since. Hopefully, this solution is helpful to others that run into the same problem. The reason I gave 4 eggs instead of 5 is because of this issue. There was about 10 minutes there where I was totally bamboozled and considered returning the board. And even though I got everything working fine, the solution I found seems pretty janky. For refence, my build is: Asus TUF B550M-Plus Ryzen 7 3700x Corsair Vengeance 16 Gb, DDR4, 3200 Mhz Nvidia 1080 Founders EVGA Supernova 650 G3

LOVE This Motherboard!
17 November 2021

I've only had this motherboard for a few weeks and haven't tested it to its full capacity just yet, but I love it. On a surface level, I find the design really cool and pleasing. There's an RGB light in the bottom right that always glows and can sync up with the rest of my LEDs in my case for a seamless lighting experience. Onto the more technical side, I had the staff at MicroCenter install this one for me (after having another motherboard in my PC that wasn't compatible with my CPU), but from what I can tell all the slots are clearly labeled (thank goodness! on my old one the proper hookups were so hard to find and figure out) and easy to find, so setting it up would be a breeze. I haven't had an issue with it not picking up a signal yet.Highly recommend this motherboard. It's pricier than some others, of course, but you get what you pay for, and this one is certainly worth the price.

Solid board!
3 March 2023

I bought this board about a month ago. I put it in a 20 year old ATX case with a new 750W power supply. I paired it with a Ryzen 5 5500 and an old 980 Ti I had laying around. Added 32GB of Corsair Vengeance 3200 DDR4 RAM. I checked for a bios update and applied it right away. Installed Windows 11 with no issues. Decided to test running AMD Ryzen Master in Auto OC mode and was able to squeeze a little more performance out of the system. System is super stable and have had no issues. Love the compactness of this board, even if I’m using it in an ugly old case!

Solid performer, good value, small quality of life bugs
15 November 2021

This motherboard is all-around a good performer. Build quality is high. Aesthetics are good. I have a couple of gripes with it. First, one NVMe slot is so close to the CPU socket that I couldn't fit a drive in it with my AIO shifted to cool Ryzen chiplets. The other NVME slot is buried under a cumbersome heat spreader with no stand-off to attach it. It's easily fixable with some parts, but I was disappointed by the out of box NVMe compatibility. Second, the Aura Sync software is now bundled with the rather cumbersome Armory Crate software, which I've already uninstalled, so that was kind of disappointing as well. On the bright side, it enabled resizable BAR with a couple of clicks, so I'm feeling positive overall.

These B550 from Asus work for me. With latest BIOS

I like the price and performance. With the latest BIOS. The two, and soon to be three, AMD Ryzen 7 and 9 boxes that I use to run 24/7/365 for distributed web projects like ClimatePrediction and WCG and FAH. Never failed with this mobo, and latest BIOS. Glad I bought a third one of this model, and totally expect that later today when I finish connecting the fussy little wires in the totally black box, I have good reason to think this mobo will "just work" (why, why,why are all the mobos, and boxes and parts all trying to be invisibly non-reflective? good stuff
5 October 2021

I have both wifi and non-wifi versions of this board and have run into zero problems thus far. I knew this ahead of time and purchased it anyway, but there are too few fan headers and one has an awkward placement that requires it to run behind the gpu if you choose to use it. If you have the choice, just use the optional cpu fan header right next to the cpu fan header. Bios is ok. Armory Crate (for changes without rebooting) is weird and not helpful but makes Asus's argb software easily accessible. Check the box to see if its ryzen 5000 series compatible out of the box or if you have to actually flash the bios before you boot. I had one that was compatible and another that wasn't.
