Having just bought a Baofeng UV9R Plus (ebay £24 inc del - comes with li-ion battery, charging dock, hands free with ptt button, proper quick release belt clip, removable antenna, lanyard, proper ID insert, AND its all a waterproof professional build, the radio itself is superb with an extremely complex parameters menu to boot, fully customisable, dual band VHF & UHF and programmable to whatever frequencies you're licenced for)All i can say is the Motorola T82's are TOYS in comparison and are lacking in ALL departments.Saying that, they're not bad radios, don't get me wrong, however they're just a step up from the cheap kids toys in build quality. The belt clip is a total joke you have to rely on bending the plastic to get it on and off lolThey should be on sale ... MoreHaving just bought a Baofeng UV9R Plus (ebay £24 inc del - comes with li-ion battery, charging dock, hands free with ptt button, proper quick release belt clip, removable antenna, lanyard, proper ID insert, AND its all a waterproof professional build, the radio itself is superb with an extremely complex parameters menu to boot, fully customisable, dual band VHF & UHF and programmable to whatever frequencies you're licenced for)All i can say is the Motorola T82's are TOYS in comparison and are lacking in ALL departments.Saying that, they're not bad radios, don't get me wrong, however they're just a step up from the cheap kids toys in build quality. The belt clip is a total joke you have to rely on bending the plastic to get it on and off lolThey should be on sale for £15 each, just goes to show how much we're ripped off over here in the UK.

The radios are fine and simple to use. My only criticism is that when using the hands-free VOX with the headset, I have to talk loudly and continually even on the most sensitive setting, otherwise it stops transmitting. We will mostly use the sets in normal no-hands-free mode so this is m=not a major issue for us, only a minor disappointment

The radios were primarily bought for two reasons: 1) staying in touch on the road in different vehicles (using ivox!) 2) staying in touch with the kids when hiking/ walking national parks. A great alternative to mobiles - free (as in no license required, no costly service plans and next to nothing running costs) and very easy to use. The reception on the radios is great and you can clearly communicate and understand each other, and has a much more extensive range than the usual "toy" walkie talkies or bluetooth radios. Worth noting that the range significantly decreases in heavy urban environments as the signal has difficultly penetrating buildings, so these are best used in open environments where you have line of sight.Build quality is good, easy to hold, still ... MoreThe radios were primarily bought for two reasons: 1) staying in touch on the road in different vehicles (using ivox!) 2) staying in touch with the kids when hiking/ walking national parks. I would say the only disadvantage is the charging cable, where I would have preferred a charging station.Power - approximately a working week in standby, and working day of talktime (depending on the number and length of conversations)

Great product
2 March 2021

I was looking for the Midland G9 PRO but I was unable to get it due to uncertain delivery schedule. After evaluating I decided to go for this Motorola product and my range test in the wood across multiple hills was quite positive. I was able to communicate from the wood to a radio inside my house away 1 km.I will mainly use it for outdoor sport, camper2camper, car2car and bike2bike and I am aware that cars and campers act as a shield ... let's see how it performs there.Would buy this again.

Great sound quality
12 August 2019

Pros:-Battery life is very good, used it for a full day's work and it still had over half its battery left. Rechargeable too so you'll save money in the long run.-Sound quality is a lot better than other walkie talkies I've used in the past, the other person comes through nice and clear and you're not left constantly asking them to repeat themselves-Comes with lots of useful accessories including a case and a lanyard. Very handy if you need to cart them about a lot. In my opinion a lanyard is much better than a belt clip if you're using them handsfree since the microphone is a lot closer to your mouth and therefore sound quality is much higher.Cons:-Signal strength is less than perfect indoors and you occasionally get interference-No PTT button on the ... MorePros:-Battery life is very good, used it for a full day's work and it still had over half its battery left. Not a deal breaker but it would make sense to include one.Overall I am very pleased with these walkie talkies, they work well, are built to last and come with accessories that I would otherwise end up buying seperately. If you want the best then I would certainly recommend the T82s.

One of the radios has at 4Hz a pulse noise in the background and the screen goes crazy.
23 July 2020

Out of the box one of the 4 units has exhibited a noticeable white noise pulse in the sound output while in RX mode (both in the loudspeaker and earphones), happening approximately 4 times every second for aprox. 50ms. The communications can still be heard, but the noise is distracting, specially in silent environments. This same unit has a problem in the screen controller, displaying random segments of the display quite often. It does not affect operation of the radio though. Both issues are small enough to live with, and do not justify the trouble of a return. They give bad indication of the quality control in the devices manufacturing. On test fields the range has been the expected - highly affected by obstacles such as buildings, but great in the outdoors. The package comes with some accessories, but most are not very usefull in practice. There's also abundant plastic packaging in the inside... Why use so much plastic when the outer case is already protective enough? The radio's themselves seem durable q.b., showing light scratches from normal usage after two day trips. I would not swear for their durability for repeated daily usage. Battery life has not been an issue at all, it has never dropped from the maximum 3-bar measurement after a full day of light use.

Proper pleased
28 August 2019

Proper pleased. I've only ever used licensed radios before so I was a bit wary of license free ones. But they worked very well, very clear reception across short distances (around 100m). Did fine up to 300m as well. We were using them in a castle with several thick walls and this didn't seem to stop the radios from working at all.Really simple to set up, even the dual channels mode was easy to get going. Good battery life too, easily lasted a full 12 hour day.

Super! over and out.
21 April 2021

I am really pleased with these radios, very easy to programme, nice to hold, very clear signal, and the battery seems to have a good stand-by time. Also they look very cool. I wasn't sure if I'd like the screen, as opposed to a digital read-out, but I quickly got used to it. I haven't tried the range yet, but I'm pretty sure it's going to be rather decent. Supplied in a nice little carry case, and with accessories.

Worthwhile purchase
21 April 2021

Motorola, so the build quality is very good, as you would expect. The design is eye-catching and different to the more usual "drab black" appearance of most walkie talkies (toys excluded) (these are definitely not toys). Sound quality is good, the sets are easy to use and, although I haven't used them in the field yet, I expect them to perform well. Being weatherproof is a bonus for when the conditions are inclement. Finally, the price. LiGo charge well below RRP so they are good value. Delivery is swift too.
