The UMF grading system appraises natural markers found in Manuka Honey and assures purity & quality. The MG rating indicates that the Manuka Honey contains at least the minimum mg/kg methylglyoxal shown on the label. Methylglyoxal (MGO) - is scientifically proven to be a key natural compound in Manuka honey. An MGO rating is a standardised measure of methylglyoxal content and is an indicator of quality. Manuka honey is graded using a system called the Unique Manuka Factor (UMF). The UMF number on the label represents the amount of MGO in the bottle. That number can range from UMF 5+ to UMF 20+. The higher the UMF rating, the more antibacterial activity Manuka honey has — and the more potent it is.
