The only marzipan I will eat. As Im not fan of marzipan. It actually named in honour of prince of England. As hes surname in England is Mountbatten The Mountbatten family is a British dynasty originating as a cadet branch of the German princely Battenberg family. The name was adopted during World War Iwhenby members of the Battenberg family residing in the United Kingdom due to rising antiGerman sentiment amongst the British public. The name is a direct Anglicisation of the German Battenberg literally Batten Mountain, a small town in Hesse.

I bought these on impulse, having enjoyed them years ago; but they were a great disappointment. The pastry was so dry and crumbly that one could not even take the tarts out of their foil cases without the pastry disintegrating everywhere; and there was no taste of almonds at all (they tasted more like sugared sawdust!). When I examine the list of ingredients on the box, I find that almonds are in twelfth place out of seventeen, just above salt - so the lack of taste is hardly surprising. But I do miss the days when frangipane would taste of the almonds it is supposed to be made from.

Mr Kipling have nailed it. An excellent balance between the ingredients. I particularly like the soft icing which denotes freshness. The pastry is always consistently good. A little more icing would make these tarts perfect. Highly recommended.

Mr Kipling still uses colouring called 'Carmine' (also known as e120). This is made from crushing beetles and drying their blood. Google it yourself if you don't believe me. It is ridiculous in this day and age to use this for colouring when plenty of alternatives are available.
These are still tasty. The pastry is a lot thicker, these days, and the Bakewell filling is a lot sparser, but on the whole, I’m still very partial to them. Asda now wants three quid for these. Disgusting price. How can these supermarkets justify these super inflated prices?
They are really good we all love them, ourselves our children and grandchildren, they don't last very longGood pastryGood middleGood jamGood iceing& Cherry
Traditional Bakewell tart doesn't have a thick layer of icing, which ruins these tarts. Take off the thick icing, and there's barely any bakewell filling, They also contain carmine which I prefer not to eat.
Bought or were given numerous Mr Kipling pies; but not now.First of all they are in a sturdy pre-sealed cardboard box. Possibly for transport as it restricts their movement & breaking. But in addition they are inside a pre-sealed plasti Plus the pies are in a plastic tray inside the plastic bag. Finally each of the six pies are in individual foil cups. You may accept this, but I found it pathetic so tried ASDA's brand & even they do it so no more for me
