Bought this day after Black Friday. Always wanted to buy a gaming computer for 5+ years and since my kids are a bit grown, I have some time. I'm playing Dota 2 against bots on max setting and it's super smooth. I heard about the hinge issue but I'm not dropping or opening from the side or anything. It's really nice and I think it was a good price point at 950 with tax. Only downside is that the laptop seems to be loud when I'm running the game. RTX 3050 TI is only 4 GB but I can't tell a difference since I'm just playing older games. Maybe when I venture out of my comfort zone and explore newer games, i'll provide an update.

I would definitely recommend this laptop over many others and if this is your price range being the 1000 to around 1300 I would say this is the go to choice. The keyboard is good for typing things out especially for gaming, I was actually rights before this gaming with a few friends and there was a much better experience to my acer laptop. Speaking of gaming this is a great gaming device. From the refresh rate to how easy it takes games its great. I was playing age of empire 2 on this and it easily had it taken care of at its best. But what is gaming without a microphone and this microphone that is just built in is better than my blue yeti. I was on discord and I asked for my friends to tell me the difference between the mic quality of the two. And I was told it was ... The blue yeti is more than 100$ that you get separately. The built in camera is good as well. good enough to use and not have to worry about something being low quality. a Overall this checks all the boxes you need and if your just looking for a laptop to have and not need an upgrade for a while this is it.

The MSI Katana GF76 is a total powerhouse. The picture attached below speaks for itself. The RTX 3060 is powerful and I have yet to max it out no matter how many mods I add to games like Space Engineers, Satisfactory, or even Hydroneer. The 1TB storage is more than enough space to store over 14 games with room leftover! The 17.3” screen is big enough and clear enough to not strain the eyes even after hours of gaming. The audio from the Katana’s integrated speakers is crisp, clear, and surprisingly loud for how low profile the laptop is. I highly recommend if you want a laptop that’s going to last longer than the rest. I’d choose the MSI Katana GF76.

This is a replacement for an ASUS RoG rig and it leaves the ASUS in the dust. Granted, the ASUS was five years old when replaced. The NOT SO GOOD computer was damaged PRIOR to purchase but I didn't notice it until two days after purchase; the screen is discolored, a few F keys are loose and some cosmetic damage. It appears the unit was dropped. Unfortunately, this model is not in stock anywhere. The GOOD almost everything! AAA MMO's played on high or ultra with 100 frame rates, The Nvidia GTX3050 may be a high end entry level card but for the games I play it is phenomenal (FFXIV, STO, LotRO, ESO and American Truck Simulator etc). Comes with on screen adjustable cross hair for FPS's, and full size keyboard with keys comfortably spaced except for the number pad keys ... Comes with on screen adjustable cross hair for FPS's, and full size keyboard with keys comfortably spaced except for the number pad keys which are a little smaller and closer together than I would like. Has both Intel integrated UHD and discrete video capabilities. You can choose which chipset to use for different programs/games through the Nvidia control panel. Comes with the Trusted Platform Module 2.0 (TPM2.0), important, if you plan to upgrade to the upcoming Windows 11 release. Speakers are OK, sounds a bit tinny but this may be due to the damage. Sound is great with headphones. Comes with Nahimic which allows you to customize the sounds for different applications i.e. gaming, movies. MSI Center lets you adjust and monitor several parameters of the system, the best one is the ability to turn the keypad off for specific applications like games! The BAD. Fan noise. It's loud, really loud when it kicks in. My wife can hear it from 27 feet away in another room. This unit gets pretty hot to the touch even with the Technet 5 fan cooling pad I have it sitting on. Although, that may be due to damage done with this unit was dropped pre-purchase. OVERALL. Great value for the money. As stated this replaced a mid-range ASUS RoG rig (that I paid $500.00 more for) and and performs better than my ASUS ever did. Understand though, technology and components have gotten better and cheaper over that time. I bought this strictly to play games and I was honestly expecting so-so performance from this rig, was I ever surprised at what it delivered! Unfortunately I have to take it back and prospects for a replacement look dim as I have checked several stores thru the country and there are none available. IF you can find one grab it, you wont be disappointed over all a 9/10 because of the fan and heat.
Compared to the other Katana GF76 models that provide a better RTX 30 series Graphic Card for a more costly price. This one was just right for my budget and still gives me everything I want. An RTX graphic card, a minimum of 16GB Ram, mimimum of 512GB SSD, 144Hz 17in Display and a 12th Gen i7 Intel chip. As an Xbox Gamepass Ultimate subscriber this laptop complements my casual gaming life style. I can play games such as Halo Infinite or play Dragon Quest XI. If I am out of state I don't have to bring my Xbox Series X console with me. My laptop allows me to play not only some of my Xbox games but also Steam, or Epic games and etc. Plus I can always plug those games to an external monitor or TV at home or wherever I go. I purchased this in early 2022 and havent even had it a full year. After the laptop has been on for over an hour, The screen will completely pixel it and freeze and then there is nothing you can do but turn off the computer. If I turn it back on after waiting an hour or so the computer will work again. It seems like there is a malfunction in the wiring or maybe it's getting too hot I don't know but it doesn't matter if I have a fan near it, The same thing happens. When I called MSI to ask if they could replace it they very very snottily, told me that they don't replace anything that I can only send it in to be fixed, and in the meantime I have no computer. So be careful if you buy this computer and check with the Walmart protection plan and see if it allows you to ... MoreI purchased this in early 2022 and havent even had it a full year. Purchased this computer yesterday after weeks of debating which laptop would be best for what I needed. I needed to be able to run multiple programs and several OSs some of what I needed requires Windows and some Linux I also needed to run APKs for certain apps. I decided a Windows PC with the ability to run emulators like VMware and Bluestacks was the best option. I researched several Laptops none fit everything I needed some had powerful CPUs but low end Graphics cards some had mid-range CPUs and Graphics but the RAM and storage were low and could not be upgraded. Then I looked at the MSI Katana GF76 powerful I7 11th gen offers powerful processing even when multitasking and running emulators. Then I looked at the MSI Katana GF76 powerful I7 11th gen offers powerful processing even when multitasking and running emulators. The Nvidia Gforce 3050ti is an amazing graphics card paired with the 17" monitor allows for 144hz and sharp visuals most games run with frame rates over 100FPS. The 16GB of DDR4 ram allows for multitasking and smooth running emulators. Now to my experience this laptop is Awesome! It comes with the MSI Center which allows for customizing the performance of the laptop to fit your needs and monitor the hardware usage and temp. Also has useful MSI software in the Center like Mystic light to control RGB devices. Besides the MSI Center it comes with the MSI App player that installs and runs APKs so you can use all of your favorite phone games and apps. The only negative I have is that the keyboard back light is red and does not seem to be addressable I STRONGLY recommend this Laptop
I was in the market to replace a 2009 Macbook Pro and compared several MS Window OS systems before settling on the MSI Katana. Compared to the Dell, HP, Acer, Lenovo, and Alienware; this MSI is the best bang for your buck. Beefy with upgradable RAM makes this my next long hall system. I have had the system for a month and it has lived up to and surpassed my expectations. Boot speed is lightning fast with the processing speeds and ability to handle my most demanding work. If I had any complaints regarding the system it would be the keyboard layout. The size of the laptop affords real-estate for a larger keyboard yet they squished the full keyboard and 10-key onto the laptop. I would have preferred a little more space or a different layout but am getting used to it. ... The overall look and quality is nice. Advanced cooling is a plus, but it sounds like a helicopter taking off when it's in full-spin. I bought a gaming laptop because I work in IT and need as much processing and video processing as I can get. Pay attention: the USB-C IS NOT Thunderbolt. In spite of so much advanced video processing, it cannot inherently support two external monitors. Can't directly connect USB-C to HDMI and can't add a USB-C docking station with multiple video outputs. I'm going to try and find an older USB-A 3.0 docking station today: wish me luck. I would not recommend this laptop. For the money you're spending, you're not getting a top-notch computing platform.
Please read this review all the way to the end. I believe in honest reviews, and while this computer is NOT the best in the market, and is in truth, most accurately described as a slightly overpriced, mediocre at best gaming laptop, so is Alienware. Anyway, I digress, because I believe that THIS, TRULY IS a great laptop. The sad fact is TRULY all things are/will usually be overpriced these days. Let’s face it. This is a $1,000 gaming laptop. The quality it offers for a nominal price is PHENOMENAL. The games it CAN play, and what it DOES allow people who cannot AFFORD an Alienware is amazing. This laptop, though while not able to perform at THOSE specs, MORE THAN ADEQUATELY handles what I desire to play on it, but to me, the TRUE value of this laptop is in the company who creates it. The community, the information, and the customer service the provide is SPECTACULAR !!! They seem like they really DO care about their consumers. Also, if you WANT Alienware quality, they provide that too, just not for $1,000. As a matter of fact, they are in the top 3 gaming laptops this year I believe. I don’t know who the winner was. Anyways, GREAT LAPTOP OVERALL. Well done MSI. You give ROG a run for their money. 5 star.
