Bios not flashed for Rizens yet

It will then take 10 to 15 minutes to update before it restarts itself and kicks to BIOS screen. A lot of people seem to be having problems with this part, but I think they are simply not allowing enough time for the BIOS to update from the flash drive.Start-up takes a LOT longer than my previous MoBo and I feel the flashy MoBo loading screen is superfluous and adds to the time before Windows kicks in. In fact, since I’m running off an M2 card, Windows loads almost instantly, so here’s’ hoping a future BIOS update drastically reduces the BIOS post process.I'm running the board with a Samsung 980 Pro M2, 2x16Gb Corsair Veng DDR4 3600, Ryzen 5600X, and a GTX 760 (I know! Still trying to get my hands on a 3070/3080 to finish the build!).If you are not prepared to get down and dirty with the BIOS, or are new to self-building, I wouldn't recommend this MoBo at this moment in time.

Could be better...

Dragon center/MSI Center software is buggy, ram leaks, and rgb doesn't save settings.I will personally be looking to go back to asus products as my experience with a few msi products has been rather disappointing. That's my only complaint about it though. The rest is fantastic, and very friendly to my multiple internal and external drives (2 NVMe, 4 HDD, 2 Blu-Ray drives, 4 external HDD). Bluetooth and Wi-Fi is fantasticly responsive. The BIOS is great, with options for CPU and RAM overclocking, fan control, and an easy overclock for beginners who want a little extra power from their PC. Great board, just think before you seat!
19 October 2021

This is my first WIFI enabled board which is actually what initially attracted me to it. From scouring the web, its is the lowest tier MSI offers that has full PCI 4 bus on all lanes which is what I want to further future proof for newer cards and SSDs moving forward. To start, I would mention that the placement of the CPU socket is probably a little higher than usual. I bought a larger than usual cooler (Noctua D-15). This caused some issues when trying to install in a case that left little headroom for my hands to fit in and install cables for fans/cpu power. Apart from that, installing everything was simple and a breeze. The inclusion of a fixed IO brick(?)/panel made seating the board simple and plugging in easy. The board actually came with a newer version of ... MoreThis is my first WIFI enabled board which is actually what initially attracted me to it. Apart from that, installing everything was simple and a breeze. The inclusion of a fixed IO brick(?)/panel made seating the board simple and plugging in easy. The board actually came with a newer version of the BIOS preinstalled that made it compatible with Ryzen 5XXX series CPUs which saved me a big hassle in installing new BIOS. However it should be mentioned MSI offers a BIOS installation method that allows you to upgrade without a CPU! Which is quite handy.Initially I was upset because the board has RGB and it was something I wanted to avoid. The back side of the board has a series of lights I totally missed in all photos or vids. It can be turned off with MSI's custom RGB software (of course) but it was a surprise I don't remember being mentioned or shown anywhere when I purchased. This is a great board. I had a lot of fun installing and setting everything up and I would attribute my problems with cabling and seating with the cooler more user error. For what I wanted out of it, WIFI and Bluetooth natively on the board and PCI-E 4.0, it has been perfect. You can probably get some of the same for less from MSIs other projects, but for a semi future proof (at the moment) board its hard to beat.

Great features for a decent price
22 October 2020

I bought this motherboard as part of a new build, replacing an old MSI Z97 Gaming 7 motherboard, and can definitely notice a difference or two! I really appreciate the 5 system fan headers (as I've used them all), and the integrated (futureproofed) WiFi 6 for a motherboard at this price point is very attractive. The futureproofing doesn't end there; as being an X570 board there is support for PCI 4.0 across multiple lanes, and Zen 3 CPUs will be supported straight away. I'm definitely pleased with the degree of USB connectivity, with 2 x USB 2.0 headers and 2 x USB 3.0 headers, in addition to 2 x USB C ports (one via header, another in the IO). It was also nice to discover that the IO shield is pre-installed, saving me that little extra bit of hassle when fitting it ... MoreI bought this motherboard as part of a new build, replacing an old MSI Z97 Gaming 7 motherboard, and can definitely notice a difference or two! It was also nice to discover that the IO shield is pre-installed, saving me that little extra bit of hassle when fitting it into my case. The BIOS is reasonably familiar to me, having migrated from an older MSI board, although with some great additions. The board explorer is great for checking everything on initial setup as always, and the hardware monitor was incredibly helpful, enabling me to set up a secondary exhaust fan at the top of my case, plugged into the pump fan header. It was simple to switch this fan to DC mode and enable 'smart fan mode' , setting up a custom curve tied to system temperature. The 'Memory Try It' feature seems quite appealing, offering a way of testing out some preconfigured memory overclocking settings while restoring memory settings back to defaults if the system can't post, without needing to reset the CMOS. I was able to confirm this restore feature worked, although sadly was unable to reach a workable RAM overclock beyond the supported speed with XMP — this would appear to be my memory die rather than anything to do with the motherboard, however. The VRMs really do seem to be as good as reported, and I feel more than happy that I would be able to do some heavy overclocking in the future, without worrying about whether my motherboard will handle the temps. The chipset fan is there as a backup, but the temps have been low enough thus far that it has barely needed to move.A CMOS reset button might have been nice, but at this price point the current feature set is more than enough, and more features would no doubt come at the expense of others. It would be helpful if mystic light control were a standalone application rather than being integrated with MSI Dragon Center, but I did not buy this motherboard for RGB. If anything, I appreciate the generally sleek and industrial black and grey look, which compliments my other (RGB free) components rather nicely.

Great middle of the pack upgrade. But check your connector pins.
14 January 2022

So far so good. Really like the upgrade to integrated wifi and bluetooth. My only gripe up front is that it was pretty noisy at first. Narrowed it down to the chipset fan being at 100% at all times, and no BIOS settings would change that. Turns out there's a somewhat known defect with the chipset fan connector where the fourth pin hole, closest to the fan, is blocked and pushes that pin against the side bracket. If you have good enough hands and eyes you can clear the connector and bend the pin back into place with a needle. See the left most CHIP pin in the pic.If you see this, might wanna check that plug before installing anything else. Much more of a pain to fix when installed in a case. That plug is connected out of the box, so definitely a production issue. ... MoreSo far so good. Really like the upgrade to integrated wifi and bluetooth. Right now the new version is called MSI Center and it is the only place I found to configure lightning. I install it from windows store and only installed the lightning module, so far it is ok and not causing problem. 4) over clocking the BOIS over clocking took is ok for me, however it is very time consuming to get a 'ideal' number. I don't have good recommendation on how to find out the best scores, but for pressure test, I recommend OCCT that is more granular to tell you which core is problematic(like undervolted too much). It detects failure faster than Cinebench, or sometimes Cinebench did not catch. 5) sound card the onboard audio is already very good, the motherboard powers my 6xx just fine. I bought a 200+ DAC and 200+ amp in addtion to that but barely notice subtle difference between the motherboard sound. For most of non-professional users (include me) probably do not need additional sound card or DAC/Amp. If you have some money to spare, make sure you get a quality case that have good front audio jack and buy a nice headphone. 6) SSD I got a pcie 4 ssd, it is faster. But i can't tell how much improvement comes from pcie or CPU improvement. I hope MSI have a better tooling center and user menu for setting things up. Other than that, it works good for me for months now.

Really solid motherboard with everything you need
12 November 2020

Having used a MSI motherboard for my previous PC, I was happy to use them again for my new build and the X570 Tomahawk hasn’t disappointed me so far. The board features all the standard features for an X570 board, such as dual PCIE 4.0 m2 slot support, and also includes integrated Wifi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 which have both worked for me instantly in Windows without installing any drivers. The board also included separate antennas for Wifi and Bluetooth which looks a lot better in my eyes than the shark fin-like combined antenna that many other motherboards feature.Installing the motherboard into my case & connecting everything was super easy with the included manual being very clear regarding where things like fan headers and front panel connecters were located. The integrated faceplate was also a big plus for me and ensured I didn’t have to faff around installing a separate faceplate. One of the big reasons I picked this board was its M2 slot placement, both featuring removable heatsinks and leaving plenty of space around them for larger SSD heatsinks. Many other motherboards in this price range have m2 heat sinks that are integrated into the VRM heatsink making installing an SSD with its own heatsink impossible. The SSD I’d chosen (Sabrent Rocket) has its own bespoke heatsink required to cool it and therefore it was super easy to simply remove the included heatsink and fit my SSD & its own separate heatsink.I was hoping to put a new 5900x processor into the board from the get go however due to stock issues, I’ve been unable to source one just yet so I’ve simply installed my previous 2700 from my old build in the meantime. The X570 has no issues using the 2700 and with the latest BIOS update installed, the board will be compatible with the 5900x when I finally get one. I haven’t tried overclocking my 2700 on this board however numerous other reviews have stated the VRM on this board is very good for the price so I have confidence that it will be very capable overclocking board.Speaking of the BIOS, I find it super easy to navigate & find what I want with the mouse support being particularly useful (even wireless mice work!). The BIOS also has excellent fan controls and make it a breeze to control both your CPU fans and case fans based upon your CPU temperature.Overall, I’d have no problem with recommending this motherboard to anyone looking for a premium motherboard that supports both PCIE 4.0 storage and the latest 5000 series AMD processors.

Unusably loud coil whine
22 February 2022

I got this board as it was one of the most popular motherboards for the X570 chipset. I originally purchased an MSI X570-A Pro but returned that because of a defect with CPU power, and I wanted more features like the front USB-C header, better thermals, M.2 heat sync, etc.The installation was easy and it actually came with a paper manual unlike the A Pro.Plenty of fan, A-RGB, RGB headers. The bios is easy to understand like the previous MSI board and setting up PWM controls and XMP were easy, which is essentially all I need for my case as I don't do any overclocking.Returning this however, since the coil whine coming from the socket/VRM is ridiculously loud and driving me insane. CPU is a Ryzen 9 5900X. It was originally a beeping at around 40bpm, so I updated the bios and now it's just a constant whine along with a buzzing like something's hitting a fan. I have (7) Arctic 140mm and 120mm fans in my case and the whine is louder than all of those at idle and noticeable at load. It also doesn't help that I use open-back headphones as well.I couldn't find any info about this motherboard in particular having bad coil whine on any forum, reviews, etc., so I am not sure if I was unlucky again and had an especially bad board, but at this point I am done with MSI after getting 2 "bad" motherboards in a row. Will be trying out Asus again with whom I have had experience in the past.Other cons, one is nitpicky:The Wifi is horrible. I have to use Wifi instead of ethernet due to room layout. Windows says the latest drivers are installed, and in fact they are properly installed, but the connection drops every few minutes making it pretty much unusable.the RGB LED's on the back of the board are just tacky and look bad cuz they're just dots on the back of the case because they're right up against it.

This has been one of my easiest builds to date and been building a long time (even before the venerable celeron 300A great overclocking days) . Do not understand what the complaints are about from people - Some have experienced Wifi or BT issues installing windows or LAN issues. Not me since I usually disable features in BIOS I do not need before installing Win (WIFI, COM1), set my DDR 4 to 1.35V (XMP) and use rated speed (3200) right away. Flash to latest bios even before installing windows and all set. Not a single problem. I almost got the B550 after reading these expert reviews!! Good that I did not. This is a great board.
