Bought this motherboard just over a week ago after looking for a while. As far as I can see it is one of a few, if not the only, motherboard that allows the full x16 bandwith on the PCI-E slot while maintaining 4 M.2 slots. Installing with this motherboard is a breeze, just make sure the CPU is in the socket properly as with any LGA based motherboard. Front panel USB connectors are mounted sideways which makes cable management a breeze. Overall a highly featured motherboard for a good price.

I love this board, love the black with green. Easy to setup as well with the easy slot for the gpu. 4 nvme's are a bonus and with gen5 with speeds up to 14k what else can you possibly ask for. I put 128ddr5 6400 on mine with no issues with posting. Just remember when installing your ram that you put the first one in the correct dimm first, read the manual or dowload it from msi website. I have never had any issues with any tomahawk series. All i need now is the new 5000 series of gpu's lol.

Great Motherboard love the quick release button on the gpu with a lock and unlock so no holding the button while removing the GPU.The nvme drives was so easy to install with the quick release covers and the lock system the old screw system used drive me mad.Wanted to stay withing the msi Eco system as i have a msi 4070 ti card.Very stable board does everything i want.I think the yellow is a bit of a eyesore but its overshadowed by the features.

The MSI X870 Tomahawk is a feature packed motherboard with PCIe 5 x16 slot support for possibly next generation GPUs. PCIe 5 M.2 NVME drive support plus usual DDR5 and AMD cpu support. If you dont need multiple pcie slots or loads of m2 drives you dont really need an x870e chipset. Bios flashing without ram or cpu being present was excellent to get board ready for 9800x3d support. Bios versions are still being released in beta as this is a fairly new product. Some people have had issues with expo and ram support but seems to be running fine with gskill 6000 ddr5 30cas for me!
This motherboard was a pleasure to build with. I keep coming back to MSI, as I find that their boards are always well designed and the components used justify the asking price, and they last very well. This has got a good set of features for the price - crucially, for me, the PCIe 5.0 NVMe slot and USB 5.0 support were determining factors on this occasion. After installation, downloading the chipset drivers from MSI and flashing the BIOS were trouble free, and the PC has been running very sweetly for a couple of weeks now with no issues at all.
I purchased this board to work with a Ryzen 7 9800X3D. It currently has a few bugs. The BIOS is still in beta, there are no stable versions out yet. As of 11/15/24, the latest version is A17. This version brings X3D Game mode to the BIOS. If you enable this, Wi-Fi crashes when booted into Windows. The only way to get it working again is to disable X3D game mode. I also failed to do my research, any more than 2 RAM modules will cause instability when EXPO is enabled. Make sure you only run dual-channel in slots A2 and B2. When testing A1 and b1, no combination (EXPO/RAM pairings) would allow the board to POST. I am currently limited in features I can use in the BIOS as well as what RAM is supported. I expect them to fix these issues and release a stable build within ... MoreI purchased this board to work with a Ryzen 7 9800X3D. It currently has a few bugs. This is a very good motherboard for the cost. I like how the figured out a way to include a USB4, but if you don't need one, you can convert the lanes and use them for additional storage. This is a very smart way to get around the AMD requirement. The board is thick and well made. It feels and looks quality although I'm not sure I'm a fan of the yellow accent. I think the board will last you for a long time. This board has a lot of good ease of access features like the debug LED and the flash button.I don't know why anyone would really consider the higher end "E" motherboards with all the features that this one has already.
Just received the board but yet to test it until I purchase a Ryzen 7 9800x3d. Lot's of detailed reviews such as Buildzoid's video that led me to buy this board. The Tomahawk x870 has enough m2 and sata slots for what I use it for and filling the m2 or sata slots doesn't affect the pcie 5.0 slot speed so that works for me.
These are my very early impressions of this board, but it might help others. I was split between this board, and some of the Gigabyte x870/x870e boards having come from a Gigabyte x570 board. I ultimately went with this because of some of the reviews for this are pretty glowing, and I think it has everything I would ever need. It also has a 5G ethernet port and full bandwith WIFI 7, which are not on the Gigabyte boards I looked at. Whether it's true or not, I also considered that the x870 series seems like it corrected some of the issues of the x670/650 boards.Installation was very easy, and it has some very nice quality of life features like the debug screen, dedicated GPU release button that's easily accessed, and M.2 slots that are easier to work with. MSI also released a completely new BIOS for this release, which I'm still getting adjusted to, but I was able to get what I need out of it. The only issue I ran into during my installation is some the front panel connectors for your case are side facing, and they were more difficult to access with my case (Fractal North).Overall, I'm very happy with this board, and I haven't run into a single real problem. No troubles with my CPU (9800x3d), RAM (Teamgroup CL30 6000Hz), and air cooler (Thermalright Phantom Spirit Evo). If you just want something that works and has many of the features of the more expensive x870e boards for quite a bit less, then look no further.
