775ml stowaway pot

I just recieved my 775ml sized stowaway pot and have to say it is built very nicely. The complaints I heard was it doesnt pour out cleanly and runs down the side. Thats true IF you pour slowly. If you pour it out a little faster it does not dribble. Second, the handle isnt sturdy especially when you pour out the contents the pot can collapse on the tilt. That is not true either. I filled it all the way up and with the locking tab slid close to the pot the handle held straight and the pot did not collapse over. I havent cooked anything yet to see if the handle gets too hot or if theres uneven heating so i will have to get back on this .But overall its compact size and stainless metal seems it will work excellent out in the field.

The fold-in handle allows it to fit snugly in my pack without any awkward parts sticking out.Another cool thing is that you can flip the lid around and use it as a tiny frying pan. So it's actually a 3-in-1 piece of gear: pot, frying pan, and container. I'd say this more than makes up for its extra weight from being stainless steel (which I still think is the superior cooking material). One thing it's missing is a bail so you can hang it over a fire. I did manage to make my own out of a steel coat hanger which I store inside the pot (there are tutorials how to do this on youtube), but it would be nice to have this feature built-in.Another small gripe is that the handle no longer locks well when it's extended. This makes it collapse as you're pouring it, which can spill its contents if you're not expecting it. This is a fixable problem with a pair of pliers, but it seems like a design flaw.Overall it's the best outdoor pot I've come across, and while not perfect, it's as close to perfect as I've found so far.

Lost meal
2 July 2023

I bought the stainless steel pots to give me the flexibility to cook over a stove or an open fire, that it has done. The pot however looks like it's been through a war and I've only used it on two trips. I think the worst part of it is the handle attachment/ lockout. Once you've boiled your water in the pot when you go to tip it out the handle folds back on itself dumping out the water and the pot's contents. I liked my old MSR pot better, since it never caused me to lose a meal. The Locking System should look more like the one used on the Stanley cook cup, or something similar where it's locked in place. I had to experiment with bending out the tabs and trying to find The Sweet Spot between locking, and being able to open it to the lock position. I'm disappointed. ... MoreI bought the stainless steel pots to give me the flexibility to cook over a stove or an open fire, that it has done. First of all: I love the size and depth of this pot. Also love the folding handle. And I love how light it is. And that's about all I love.It does not clean easily. It does not distribute heat well. I boiled chicken in it and still ended up scrubbing residue from the sides. I also have the GSI outdoors Hallulite pot and I love that thing. All I have to do is boil water in it and wipe it out. Easy peasy, been using it for years. And I came into this purchase expecting a little more fuss but not enough to justify the 40 dollar price tag. The lid handle could easily be silicone coated to make touching it easier but no. It's a barebones design with a folding handle that isn't all that rigid when it comes to how much you'll have to scrub and flip it. This pot does not pour well. The lip is not pronounced enough and results in the liquid just running down the sides of the pot and making a mess. Also, the handle of the pot is not securely lockable in place. There is a risk of the pot collapsing when tilted. I wanted to like this product but it wasn’t able to achieve the one purpose I bought it for: to boil water and pour that water safely. If the above features are dealbreakers for you, PLEASE DO NOT BUY FROM MEC, as they will not honour their rock solid guarantee if the pot has been used (even if just once to boil water). It will be a profit loss to them and they are not able to resell the product and therefore will not allow you to return this product. Really nice pot and nests well!
4 August 2019

I used the 1.7L pot in the boundary waters wilderness for a multi-day trip with a family of 4. I usually bring some paper plates for kindling and have a few insulated bottles around for our drinks, so stacking sets were not as important as the durability. We eat well and although not a thru-hike setup, I was able to cook a luxurious meal for 4 rapidly. Combined with a wind-burner system for morning coffee and boiling water (dried vegetables, rice, noodles, etc) I could make large meals VERY quickly. The pot is not necessarily ""nesting"" but because the handle clamps down, I use it as a storage/transport system for many other items. The pot is not necessarily ""nesting"" but because the handle clamps down, I use it as a storage/transport system for many other items. Inside this pot I hold a pocket-rocket deluxe, a small can of fuel, the fuel canister stand, 4 nesting stainless bowls, a folding MSR folding spatula, grater, spoon, scraper, a GSI tongs, the handle from the alpine fry pan, steel wool and camp soap - all inside the pot. Then this fits inside the alpine fry pan. The pan is not attached, but a rubber band can hold it together for the gear bag. The lid of the pot can cover some items in the fry pan to keep them warn, but it is smaller than the fry pan and sits down in it. Didn't try frying in the lid. The bowls can be used over as low flame for some cooking and the 1.7L pot is very versatile. We eat our meals out of the bowls which are large enough for a meal a la chipotle bowls. Of you are not careful with the stainless, it will burn things to the bottom. For example, I dropped a grilled cheese during the flip and the cheese melted to the bottom of a nearly red-hot pan. It takes some elbow grease to clean in the wilderness, but a little steel wool is very effective. Once back at home, bar keepers friend completely cleans the metal to shiny new condition. MSR: If you could make a smaller fry pan and a slightly taller pot, then everything could be contained in the pot, making a very versatile all-stainless setup. Alternatively an alpine fry pan as a lid would be killer.

Very versatile, compact, durable.
4 October 2023

I picked the 1.1L for a week long back-country portage trip this September. I think it's a very versatile pot, not too large to sit over a burner, with enough capacity to cook a large single meal or two reasonable portions to share.Mainly used it over open fire and directly on charcoals. It cleans up well, and did not scorch. Also, the handle is just long enough that you can keep it out of direct heat and grab it without fear of burning yourself.I like that it has no plastic parts to melt, and stowes away nicely.Great product.

its very good and it will not tip over if you have it filled and try to pour out the contents. Also if you pour the fluids out at a faster speed it wont dribble over the sides. These were the 2 complaints I kept hearing about. I could see an improvement on the second issue with maybe an indent area on the edge where you can pour the contents and it wont dribble. One last thing that can easily be corrected is to have at least 2 volume markers on the pot. While your at it how about adding a canvas or nylon carrying bag for it.

perfect both at home & on the trail! countless uses

Great lunch/snack storage for commute, is so easy to store & reheat leftovers or sauces on the stove with too! Zero/low waste shops sell stainless food containers for similar prices, but they arent suited for cooking and not as study imo. Alpine pot is so durable, had sitting in water for days on mutliple occassions & really beat it up, no rust or damage at all. While camping and cooking outside, Alpine pots are pretty much perfect. Is of course designed with cooking while camping in mind, but so handy to keep in home kitchen, great gift for campers in college/moving out too.
