This is a great little product that’s exactly what I needed for my Whisperlite stove. I hadn’t serviced mine in some 18 years (guilty looks abound) but a few minutes of work with this kit had it as right as rain. Excellent quality product and value for money, but then again, that’s anything with the MSR name on it. Highly recommended. PK

I'm using the MSR Whisperlite International. I found that the stove doesn't come with any tools for maintenance so I brought this annual maintenance kit. It contains the replacement parts you need for the pump and the tools to disassemble the stove for cleaning.

The other day, I pulled out my pre-shaker jet MSR Whisperlite stove and tried to get it running. It leaked! Right where the fuel hose goes into the pump. I thought I'd need to buy a new pump but then I saw the Annual Maintenance Kit and it has all the O-rings that I needed to replace. Best of all, they actually fit my 1988, old-style gray and black pump! The kit arrived today, I changed out all the O-rings in under 5 minutes and pressurized the tank, hooked up the stove and fired it up! Works like a dream! Since it includes 2 of each O-ring, you are good for a couple of years (or decades in my case!)

Had a leaky valve so it was time to replace the rubber bushing. Went ahead and purchased the complete kit in case the need arises for other repairs. I make a point of carrying the maintenance kit more as a field repair kit, and glad I do. Of course with my recently cleaned up stove, I didn't require it, but my neighbors sure did!! With a little experience, and of course the MSR annual maintenance kit, I had all the things needed to get their stove up and going for the rest of their trip. My dad gave me his Whisperlight Stove when I started my backpacking adventures and it is my favorite piece of gear. Its compact, lightweight and has never failed me. The fact that I have everything I need to fix it if something does break, or whenever it needs a little bit of cleaning in a tiny package makes this kit perfect. I take it every time I go out incase of an emergency fix and I hardly ever notice it (because my stove is a TANK and has never needed an emergency fix). Every one with a MSR stove needs this kit.
This kit has a lot of parts, and is small enough to take around for your outdoor drips. I bought this cause my stove had an issue while camping and thank goodness a neighbouring campsite had the tools to help us fix ours. However, this kit is not appropriate for canister stoves! Take note and don’t make my mistake, I thought it would work for both!
The most value of this kit is actually a printed manual (with some flaws though). I did not like the lack of pump stem cup in this kit which is a part of a step-up Expedition set. I had to use regular hdpm oring on my latest trip to replace a leaking shut-off valve but purchased this kit immefiately after returning home because orings used with fuel must have special elastomer formula resistant to oils.
The pleasure level of a backcountry trip will take an immediate nosedive if your stove does not work. Especially during dry times when fire is not an option. When I took the needed O-rings from this kit to put them in my Exped kit, I looked at what was left and noticed something that made me feel a little foolish and that I had wasted my money. This kit contains 14 parts. I'm going to make a bold statement and say that you will only ever use 4 of them, maybe less. I believe it's fair to say that most people have either an old or new style pump but probably not both and most will have a standard pump or a Dragonfly pump but not both. Let me explain:Unless you have both a new and old style pump, you can throw away 1 pair of O-rings because they won't fit your pump. Unless you have both a Standard and Dragonfly pump, you can throw away another pair of O-rings because they won't fit your pump. That brings us from 14 down to 10 parts.Unless the parts that came with your new MSR stove and bottle differed from mine, you also received two fuel bottle O-rings, a safety pin, a Jet & Cable tool and a tube of mineral oil and I'd put money on the fact that you kept them and still have both fuel bottle O-rings because you rarely if ever use the bottle cap so the original O-ring is still in boss condish. With the redundant parts in this kit you will double that collection. Now you can take 5 more parts of the remaining 10 in this kit and either toss them or put them in the gear room "parts bin", probably never to be seen again. 5 parts left.Next is the pump seal, the red rubber collar that seals the pump to the bottle. You can toss that one in the parts bin as well because your original is probably still in boss condish. I've had my original in use for the 8 years I've had my stove and its still in great shape. An annual replacement part, I think not. That leaves us with 4 parts, regardless of which pump you have.In my experience, this kit is really only good for 1 pair of control valve O-rings and 1 pair of fuel tube O-rings, which in my opinion makes it a very poor value. I suppose there may be some people who will make use out of more parts than I have, but I think its fair to say that for the average person, you'll be paying for a whole lot of useless "extra".
