This is a great addition to my minimalist pack as a big guy. Between this model and the MSR Pocket Rocket 2 is a couple of grams difference, but this Deluxe comes with a Pfiezo Igniter and pressure regulator which I think is worth the couple of grams. I've encounter the Pfiezo igniter now working on some of my friend's Deluxes but it was an easy fix. Just gotta push the igniter wire up alittle the cylinder frame and make sure when you unscrew the burner part to align the plastic tubing ontop of the igniter wire. This will insure a good connection and one press ignite. Simple and convient! Don't let others discourage you from using this awesome product.

An excellent small LIGHT stove. Did yeoman service on a quick two night backpack trip to the Mission Mountains. Outstanding job cooking and a darn good job helping to get the coffee going!Overall this stove is an awesome piece of equipment. The only minor complaint-wish it had 4 pot supports instead of three.Worked well in a light wind and chilly temps. I recommend this stove in the shop I work at, mostly to the detriment of other styles of canister stoves.I am a āvolumeā packer-meaning space is filled with things that fit easily and are compactable-This stove fills several cooking niches for me so fits my style well. Quick comparison between the Pocket Rocket Deluxe and Soto Windmaster (I own this Pocket Rocket Deluxe, plus the Soto Windmaster). I like that the Pocket Rocket has all of its components attached, but I feel that the Soto beats this stove in other aspects. Performance of the Pocket Rocket was pretty similar with boil times, but itās LOUD.Soto will last 90 mins on an 8oz canister, while this Pocket Rocket only lasts 60 mins. Thatās a huge difference!! Very handy, and at least for me, very reliable, although I carry matches and a lighter in case the igniter fails.Almost very compact. But: you can't actually close the lid on the kit with an 8oz fuel canister, unless you leave the plastic lid off the canister; exposing the pot and canister threads to damage.As others mentioned, the silicon ring can heat up and fall off with high flame. Requires mindfulness that may be missing if you're tired or in a hurry.I know of two people who managed to burn up the plastic cup because they left it on the pot. One ruined her burner in the process, too. This cup should be a different color; probably yellow. Again, a mindfulness issue, esp. in the dark.

I mainly bought for the small light weight pot and bowl, thinking maybe I could get my old pocket rocket to fit in there with a small canister. This one has a stand alone pot holder instead and does not stay closed on its own. I doubt the 1-2 ounces of weight required to add it would really matter and it would fix the problem. Like how hard is it to add? Also the pot holder is just another loose item to lose. To solve I put rubber bands around the pot, but I shouldnāt have to.- if compact and everything Is nested (stove/holder/canister in pot), itās going to rattle and be super annoying. Itās always been a problem, not really a MSR problem though. I put paper towels in to fix.- bowl should be a different color. Iāve heard dozens of complaints about people burning the bowl. Iāve yet to do that, but I also wrote on the side to take it off with a marker. Seems like a simple thing that could prevent foggy morning people from burning the bowl.- bowl could use a lid to make a more insulated cup. Then again, not super important and keeps the weight down, so super low complaint. I have a coffee cup Iāll use and leave the bowl behind if Iām that adamant about a hot beverage.- last, the size. Barely getting much water out of this, but, you kind of know that getting in. So thatās also not really a problem.

I thought maybe I damaged it. So I purchased another. I like the lightness and the way it is easy to use and boils quick. ButMy second unit also leaks a littleāenough to smell it when itās off/valve closed. This week I used it with a closed valve to warm my hands. Way too much leakage. So I started removing the burner from the canister every night and then re-assembling for breakfast. This summer piezo died ( I would say 100 - 150 strikes tough it's life... def not claimed 10000 :D), it moves a little up so spark cannot be generated. Not a biggie as you shouldn't rely on it, but I would love to be able to take off the stove completely so I do not carry these useless few grams of weight. Piezo aside ( nice option but not why I got this stove) the Delux is better then PR2 in any way. Propane has much higher pressure so Delux regulator will prob be toasted.Get delux if you do not care about extra cost, other then that PR2 will do exactly same job.Either way - MSR is always my first choice. Amazing company, best support, high qualify gear that is so awesome I sometimes use it just for fun.

I was excited about the updated folding feet on the stove, the strainer on the lid, the measuring capability on the plastic cup, the aluminum handle, and the protective plastic ring so you can touch it when its hot. And it (supposedly) nests! Couldn't resist. I may have been a bit short sighted.The stove is fine. Performs almost identically to its predecessor. Fell down *while I was boiling water*. I had to quickly turn the stove off to keep from setting it on fire, which of course shut down the water heating, which made things take even longer and use even more fuel. I don't trust it so I don't even use it. Probably going to leave it at home to make up for the extra weight of a lid with no holes in it.The punchline: great idea, questionable execution. I would have been just as happy with my original set up and keep my $70.
I've been using the stove exclusively in my lowland adventures for about 9 months now. I've paired it with a 500ml titanium Toaks cup for most of it and can recommend you get a 750ml pot so you can fit a small fuel canister in the cup as well. Just use a buffer before grabbing the cup handles or you'll glaze your skin.Cons:-You'll lose a lot of heat to wind if you don't use some sort of wind buffer.-Had a boil over and the piezo ignition got wet and stopped working until dry. Most of my snow melting is normally done with a MSR reactor, but I wanted to test this little guyout, and boy was I impressed. The increased surface area of the pot (over my cup I normally use) and the jet engine they made for a burner made quick work of that snow.10/10 will pack again.- light weight- compact
