San Marzano tomatoes are prized for their balanced flavour and distinct tomato-iness. I only use these when I'm doing a sauce or ragu (I wish I could use them fore everything). They are sweet in flavour, have a low acidity, a firm pulp, deep red colour and a low seed count. I can really taste the difference when I use these gorgeous tomatoes.

San Marzano's are essential for good pizza sauce. These are excellent. I disagree with the other reviewer who said it's mostly sauce. All tomatoes in a tin are packed in tomato sauce. The sauce is a natural element of canning. So the sauce in the can is the sauce from the tomatoes. I will add that I use only San Marzano's for my pizza's and you should to!

As per the title, these are excellent tomatoes. I do not understand the earlier negative review about the amount of "puree" in the tin - the sauce in the tin is normal for tinned tomatoes. They reduce well on a low heat to make a pasta sauce with a nice consistency (say 1.5 hours). I do not have to do anything to the tomatoes - just pour the contents into the saucepan and add the other ingredients.

Ludicrously expensive but with flavour to match. Google San Marzano and you'll see that they're pretty much the best out there for pizza and pasta sauces. Simple works better with a hint of garlic, restrained seasoning and lots of fresh basil. Are they worth six times the cost of a regular can? Your taste buds, your wallet. BTW if you buy tomatoes to heat up and stick on toast for breakfast, avoid these, they need slow and gentle cooking to bring out.
These are simply the best tinned tomatoes you can buy on Ocado. So superior to even other Italian brands. The san marzano variety are former and have much less water, turning these into the sweetest flavoursome tomato sauce possible. Definitely worth the extra for a dish where tomato is the star.
I bought these last week but haven’t used them yet. I chose them because San Marzano are my favourite tomatoes being very fleshy not all skin and pips. So yes, I will buy them again and I’m sure they’ll be as good as I expect them to be.
My favorite tomato available in just the right size can lined in white enamel. Perfect for making recipes for smaller households. would like to see in crushed or diced also.
I love the regular Mutti peeled tomatoes and use them all the time. These came up on offer and, having read all the puff, I decided to give them a try.. There was bits of skin on a couple of them and one had not been peeled at all; one large one was unripe; the flavour and texture was no better than the regular Mutti peeled tomatoes. Ripoff and never again.
This is the best tasting San Marzano tomatoes out there. They are DOP certified and taste better than other top DOP brands. The cans contains tomatoes and juice. Cans are not filled with inferior puree to make a sauce seem thicker, so these might be a little more watery than others. If necessary, the juice could be drained off for another use which will produce a thicker sauce, if sauce is what you're looking for. They are a bit more expensive but if taste is important to you, this is it.
These tomatoes are simply the best and well worth the cost. Four tins required to make a wonderful sauce. In the best olive oil, fry a chopped, white onion and two sticks of diced celery for 15 minutes, with a large pinch of salt. Then fry plenty of garlic for one minutes. Meanwhile, crush the tomatoes with your hands in a large bowl and remove the stringy bits. Add to the onion, celery and garlic and simmer on a very low setting for two hours. Add chopped parsley and basil to taste. Not too much, say two heaped dessert spoons. It's that simple. And it's delicious. Great with pasta and as a sauce for lasagne, bolognese etc.
