CATCHES ON FIRE! I legit just plugged this thing in, as I have normally for the past couple months that we have had it. Never do we leave it on all night or even longer then 20mins at a time… well, tongiht I plugged it in and smelled a burning coming from the nightstand and to my suprise the thing was SMOKING & HAD A LITTLE FLAME INSIDE! I read a lot of reviews for these sound machines and settled on this one - glad I did. The cord is long enough that I can put it on top of the kids' desk where they can't reach. We have used the ocean and twinkle twinkle sounds the most. Often, I'll use twinkle twinkle to get them to sleep (they love the repetitiveness of the familiar song), and before I go to bed, I switch it to ocean so I'm not singing about stars all night. I'd recommend unplugging it if it's an issue and you have easy access to the outlet.

I own two other HoMedic sound machines. I got them when my kids were babies, and it really helps them stay asleep at night. They've gotten used to the white noise and now thunderstorms and us watching TV at night don't disturb them at all.I was really excited to see the sound machine had a design refresh, since ours are so old. The speaker is really great and loud, but I was not impressed with anything else. There's no longer a rain or waves sound effects and that's the noise we use. There are like 3 or 4 songs, which have never made sense to me because they always sound like screeching. There's this weird shush sound now too. The sound quality is poor. There are much better sounding products out there. The user interface and technology seem old, like from the early 2000s. I was gifted several sound machines for my first baby and this was one of them. It was my least favorite. It is the only one that isn’t cordless. Even a musical stuffed animal from China sounds better than this.
I bought the later model for my firstborn son and we absolutely loved it. He called it his la la and no matter where we went he would always fall asleep as long as we had the la la with us. It went on vacations camping and on a cruise ship and grandma and grandpa had ones at their house as well. What made the older version so much better than this one is that the projected image on the ceiling rotated to create a movie like scene on the ceiling or wall wherever you aimed it at! Just recently went out and bought this new one thinking it was the same as the older model and when we got it home we were sadly disappointed. My son has no interest in this new la la and it has become a dust catcher on the shelf. I have now bought two and the cord has gone out on both in less than 6 months. The newest one only lasted one month. I know it’s the cord because I hooked the old body to a new cord and it worked. Their is no replacement cord either. Also my sound machine is on a shelf so my little one can’t reach it. Just buy a different sound machine. The sounds are great and I love the projector, but it’s not work the hassle
Have had this for almost 2.5 years now and still going strong! The first year, we had this on nearly 24/7! Now my son is old enough to enjoy the projections. Some people said the sound quality isn’t great but that didn’t bother us as we just used it for light white noise. The timer function is useful too as we recently learned that it may not be good to keep it on all night for the baby. Also reading through the recent reviews I just learned that you don’t have to cycle through the sounds to turn off! Just hold “sounds” button for 3 seconds and it’ll turn off.. wish I knew this sooner!
I have never felt so strongly about how horrible a product is. We have other sound machines & this one is just awful. It doesn’t get loud enough and each sounds is terrifying in its own way. The rain sounds like a scary, broken rocking chair. The twinkle sound is the stuff of nightmares. Please do not purchase this.
We had this sound machine in our daughter’s room, and a different one in our son’s room. I decided to get him the same one because his wasn’t loud enough. They love the projected pictures, the sound choices are great, and the volume is perfect. It is plenty loud enough, and it can still go higher. Oh and the price!👏🏻
