A whole new quantum world of science.

Crystals is a very relevant part of life ,now in quantum physics. So to bring such a concept where crystals are involved is tough for a child but here i can teach & explore this quantum world to understand. Fascinating possibilities.

Good introduction to chemistry

This kit provided a nice straightforward introduction to growing crystals, we were pretty happy with results but the crystal is a clear white colour rather than the green depicted on the cover so didn't quite match little one's expectations. Be aware that you'll need to choose your own jar to grow the crystal.

This is a cool crystal kit for kids. The instructions were easy to follow for my 12 year old. It even came with a crystal which she thinks is very cool. We are growing it in the window sill and it’s coming out nicely. I can’t wait till it finishes so I can see the glow-in-the dark feature. I will be buying these as Christmas gifts. I received this National Geographic crystal kit as a spark reviewer for my honest review.

Great for pre-teens

Pros: super cool idea; easy to mixCons: consistent chemical smellThe Good: Picked this and the Purple Crystal set up for an activity at work. They were easy to work with, even for 12 year olds (with supervision). Instructions were clear, and we were able to complete the set in a rambunctious youth activity center without issue. The Bad: Even though I expected the smell (I grew up doing the homemade version of these with random chemicals from my parent's labs) -- I noted it here because it was very strong according to the kids. So far, the finished crystals still smell faintly, but it seems to be fading. Said smell is stronger with the glowing crystal than the purple.

Great learning experience!

I'll be honest with you, I was afraid this would be overly complicated. I was very wrong. This is super easy, and was excitingfor both my kids. You simply boil water, mix your powder in and stir untilIt is dissolved. You add your special rock and leave it in a place it will goUndisturbed until it's done growing. We managed to get some decentsized crystals too.

Great project
2 September 2020

This is a great little project for any science loving kiddo. It comes complete with everything you need to grow an actual crystal. It does require some adult supervision and help but for the most part they can do it on their own. Preparing the stuff for growing takes about 15 minutes, so it’s fairly quick. But it does take at least a week to fully grow the crystal. I like that it comes with an informational book about different crystals as well so it helps peak interest even more! Perfect project especially right now with all the kiddos at home.

He loved it!
27 March 2023

My friend's son just turned 8 and he loved creating stuff/making things/scientific reactions, and he has a blast making this kit! He especially loves that it glows in the dark so he can see it at night. Well worth it to buy!

It really grows crystals

This box kit has everything provided except a glass jar or bowel to grow your own crystals. It was very easy to flow the instructions. Smaller kids will need help doing the steps and handling boiled water. You find a wide mouth jar or a small glass bowel and pour the powder on it then boiling water and still with provided wooden spoon for two min and all the powder will be dissolved and then let cool 10 min. Place a tablet (rock seed) in the middle and place the jar.someplace that won’t be disturbed but will have a lot of light if moved it can break for finishing growing. Check on it and watch it grow over the next week. I think ours was done around 5 days and all the water was evaporated. I used a glass loaf pan and I think it was a little wide. It was fun to watch every day to see its progress. But it never glowed in the dark as the box said but we didn’t care. For your little scientist they will love it!!

National Geographic Glow in the Dark Crystal Lab

What a wonderful experiment for my granddaughter. Crystal labs have come such a long way from when my daughter was young. This one was was easy to set up and a huge bonus that it actually really did glow in the dark!

Underwhelming
1 September 2020

Unfortunately, I am disappointed in the results of this kit. Perhaps my expectations were too high but I was hoping to grow a larger crystal. The crystal my kids grew was no bigger than the size of a pea. I re-read the instructions several times and am left wondering what exactly we did wrong. We even did the extra tips which included covering the chamber and keeping it away from vibrations. I will say that I enjoyed the booklet and rock that came with the set. That was a big hit. It gave me new interest in growing crystals which I did not even realize was possible before this kit. I would definitely be interested in buying the supplies a la carte to try this same experiment again with our own supplies so on that end I am happy for the inspiration to try again.
