Iron supports the normal formation of red blood cells and the production of hemoglobin. It is also important for normal cognitive development in children and supports healthy energy production. Babies are born with iron stored in their bodies, but a steady amount of additional iron is required, especially between the ages of 7-12 months. Breastfed babies, or those not fed with an iron-enriched formula, are at risk of low iron levels during these ages. Infants and children who follow a predominantly plant-based diet are also at risk. The supplement provides 10mg of iron per daily dose, along with vitamin B12, folic acid, and vitamin C. Vitamin B12 and folic acid also support healthy formation of red blood cells and reduce fatigue and tiredness, so they work well alongside iron.
