I “upgraded” to one of these through AT&T wireless and the experience has been pretty terrible. I have gone through 3 different devices, all with the same issue- the hotspot will randomly power off and on numerous times in a row causing WiFi signal to not work. Issue started within first few months of having device, this after previous mobile hotspot from different company lasted more than 5 years without a problem until it finally died, hence the need for a replacement. Would definitely not recommend one of these, especially if you are trying to use it with AT&T service.

I am an Internet jargon novice. I bought two M1 mobile routers. M1 would get FIVE stars if it showed more than just the number of devices connected. It needs to show the name of the device connected and the IP address of the device connected.I now know how critically important it is to see the name and IP address of each connected device. This may cause me to look for a different router. I really like the performance of the M1 over my former cell provider’s mobile routers. This short fall of no knowing the name and IP of devices on the M1 screen may cause me to look for another device next time. I am a mobile router user, a novice to mobile routers and IP jargon, but I have quickly learned that knowing this much is critical.

Bought this to use in campervan when away from home. Fed up of no TV on certain sites so intend to pair it with Amazon Firestick. The set up was remarkably easy. Used an EE prepaid sim and it was more or less plug and play. Selected EE as the provider from drop down list and all set up was automatic.Connecting devices is just as straightforward as any other router. Was considering purchasing an ariel as well, as campervan can act like a faraday cage, but have had no issues connecting to 4G signal so far, so probably not needed.
The device fired up fine in OEM mode. WiFi connect. Installed the app on the phone and the computer. I wanted to use this as a modem and not a router. Wanted to connect to my eithernet LAN network. I have LM1200 hotspot that is a modem direct to the LAN.This M1100 hotspot was a bit difficult to get setup. Most of the online and Utube videos DID NOT work. I finally found a method that works. Set the hotspot up to use DMZ pass thru, connect to a router setup to connect LOCAL IP to the DMZ IP. The BW speed on my ATT tower ran around 90m DL up 4mThe LM1200 worked well but speed was 25 m DL.My only negative issue is the Netgear site should have this setup method in the main user guide online, someplace easy to find. I spent 5 days searching for a setup that would work.I only use the hotspot access when my med speed DSL is down. Cell tower almost never goes down. The other drawback is the cost, ATT is high and no more unlimited content.I found this unit on ebay for a great priceI do recommend this deviceA PS I did install an outside antenna to improve the signal level
Without high speed internet for 6 & 1/2 yrs til this came along. Our personal hotspot worked better than Hughesnet, but it was all crawling speed. You have to get the right plan with a sim card from you cell company...a personal hotspot plan on a sim will be targeted & shut down. There's unlimited-limited and there's unlimited-unlimited. Got to pay ATT or Verizon more for the right sim card (we do a business plan for like $65 monthly), and it works wonders with 1 bar of reception.A cell phone booster will not work for this like it does on cell phones. Our's did not and in fact slowed down our internet speed. To our knowledge you'll need at least 1 bar of service without a booster antenna. Then you'll want a MIMO antenna. Our's did not and in fact slowed down our internet speed. To our knowledge you'll need at least 1 bar of service without a booster antenna. Then you'll want a MIMO antenna. MIMO is completely different than cell booster antenna although they look the same. Don't buy the MIMO laptop one from Netgear unless you can't mount a big one outside. Little laptop clip on Mimo antenna from Netgear works fine taking speed from 5Mbps to 10-20Mbps, but a big 2x2 MIMO antenna from Waveform will really increase your speed. With the MIMO external Waveform we went from about 5mbps to 50....sometimes 80. My only knock on the Netgear Nighthawk is that the input receptors for the MIMO antenna are weak. They do not hold the input jacks very well at all. You have to insert the bulky wired MIMO antenna jacks gently and position the little Nighthawk we're it doesn't move or the jacks will slip right out. It's a problem we happily deal with. Position your Nighthawk central to all wifi devices. The further you get away from it the slower the speed. It does work well though for the desperate. Thinking about cancelling our Starlink now.
This Netgear product from this seller is unusable. I attempted to use it, unsuccessfully. I finally contacted Netgear. When I described the message on the screen, Netgear informed me that the device is set up to use with AT%26T. If you aren't using it with AT%26T, then it's unusable. WalMart would not allow me to return because the 30 day period has lapsed. I tried to contact the seller (techboys llc). No response. This is completely unethical, as I bought a Netgear Mobile Router, not a product that must be used with AT%26T.
I have had this device for a few weeks now and so far so good. There are a few bumps in the setup and understanding of how to get service with this device. After that, it was smooth sailing after. Some info out there said you can connect with a non-contract mobile carrier. I had no luck with that and decided to take my unlocked Hotspot to my cell provider. They inserted the SIM card in the back of the device, and I was set up. So far 50Gb has been fine even though I haven't had it for a full month yet. It will depend on how much you will use it.After, getting the SIM card the setup was fairly straightforward. You could change your passwords to get access. I used the Netgear Mobile App which was easy to use. The only thing is you have to be connected to the mobile hotspot to gain access. Can't use this app elsewhere to check when you're away.I mainly use it to connect my Google Home Mini, Google Chromecast, and Ring Stick-up Camera. When I connected my cell phone it used a lot of data alone compared to the other devices. One bad thing about this device is that the battery stinks. On a full charge, it lasted about 13 hours before I had to plug it back in. If you charge it during the night and unplug during the day it seems to be fine. Battery life may vary due to usage. This device does show a green visual bar on the left as its percentage of charge. The blue visual bar on the right is for data usage. So far with AT&T, it has not worked.Overall, I think this device works well for what I need it to be while traveling for work. I have also played a few rounds of Call of Duty Multiplayer and had no issues. Usage still varies so keep in mind.
The product never gets good speeds and thus it is essentially useless as a travel mobile hotspot. If you want to buy this to travel for longer than the 15 day return policy DO NOT BUY. We purchased this for our travels only to find out that we did not get any good or useful coverage when our phones and other devices, on the same network, worked flawlessly.Given when we got back it was past the 15 day return policy we essentially have a $200 e-waste paperweight. Should we have done more extensive testing? Sure, but you never know how it will perform in other locations for traveling until you go and do it.Technical issues:Living in a major tech hub I get full bars of 5G and 4G LTE on all my other devices for both Verizon and Google Fi.This device...2 bars of ... MoreThe product never gets good speeds and thus it is essentially useless as a travel mobile hotspot. If you want to buy this to travel for longer than the 15 day return policy DO NOT BUY. I can connect to Google Fi but still only 2 bars.Installing a Verizon SIM card automatically detected the network and set up the APN correctly but we still never found it to get more than 2 bars of LTE.Ultimately do not buy this. Find some other cheaper product that does 4G LTE or better yet 5G.
Just purchased the M1100. Installed highly recommended Spectrum Smart Data only SIM card. M1100 would not make a cellular connection. Called Netgear support number twice and basically told me each time it's the sim card. Alwasy the first technician to answer would always put me on hold to go talk to a supervisor. Anyhow I finally gave up with netgear support and figured it out. Got M1100 making a cellular connection by manually connecting on the phone app. Have still not figured out how to get it to connect when on auto. We travel in RV so was hoping each time I turned the M1100 on it would auto search for best cellular connection but to no avail...
