I am glad i invested in this.My previous router was used and old when I got it 10 years ago. But worked fine for a 1 bedroom apartment. This bad boy however allows me to walk around outside and stay online on 2.4, unlike my old one. And lets me enjoy faster speeds inside my home. No issues with the equipment itself. Would be 5 stars but I don't like the GUI for accessing the settings. Unless you use the app, accessing it directly with a browser is too complicated for a new user. Im an IT so i can manage but it shouldn't be this difficult for others. I understand security is key but why should a user have to create an account, online, before doing somethins as simple as changing the password? Just my 2 cents.

Great router for the value as was bought during clearance sale. Best decision I've made so far. My smart outlet plugs can't connect to 5Ghz Wi-Fi frequencies and couldn't connect to the Cox panoramic gateway even though it was set to separate the frequencies individually. The smart plug can only connect to 2.4Ghz waves and this router was best for that. Very glad I've came across this and sad that it's no longer available to purchase again. Speeds are top notch and stands behind its advertised specs.

Does its job well
20 January 2023

This router does its job and was very easy to set up. I just recently got my first apartment and am now living on my own. I did my research online to find out what internet service and router would work best for me, and I landed on this NETGEAR AC1200 router which had great reviews and was affordable. I fully expected this to be a time consuming and terribly frustrating process but due to the nighthawk app and its guidance I was able to set up my router with no trouble at all and haven't had a hitch in its performance since I first turned it on. I have much appreciation that NETGEAR has made a product that is affordable, easy to use, good at its job, and good quality.

Love it

The router was absolutely simple to set up. In the short time I've been utilizing the router is from running smoothly. The app makes logging in to make adjustments or test speed and connection so simple. The router has been able to handle a rather heavy load without any real lag or drop. My security cameras run smoothly through it. The computers show with no issue, Game systems, TVs, tablets and phones. They all run almost like they're the only thing connected to the network.

Misleading description
24 December 2022

This router's description says WI-FI speed: 300mbps(2.4mghz) 900mbps(5mghz). But nowhere in the description it shows that the WAN is limited to 100mbps. This means that your Internet speed is limited to 100mbps regardless of the WI-FI speed. Most people use WI-FI routers for accessing the Internet, so with 100mbps limit, your WI-FI speed is practically a waste. The WAN speed should be clearly stated in product description, but it is not, and it is misleading. The router works fine, but I will be returning it because it just doesn't make any sense and it is useless with such specifications. With my current ISP plan of 300mbps, I can buy a 1gb WAN router with lower WI-FI speed and get a better performance.

Not a good experience so far
27 January 2023

Purchased and couldn't get it set up or even linked to I-net provider router. I-net provider couldn't help with set up. 1st call was to get assistance hooking up. Mbps was less than 100. 2nd phone call tech had access to my computer made changes and told me to wait 24 hours. This didn't change anything. 3rd call tech stated i needed a cat7 or 8 cable told me to use cable that came with router. cable is only 3' long and not near long enough. ordered cat 8 cable even though i don't believe this is going to help with the Mbps download. Very tired of all the time i've spent on the phone talking to china.

Router upgrade
18 March 2023

Recently updated our old router. So far this one has performed really well. Speeds on the 5g band nearly match my ISP’s advertised max speeds. The setup was the only frustrating part. If you want to keep the default name and password it is extremely easy to do from a mobile device with the app. However, I had issues when trying to do this. The update would error out. This led to several resets to attempt to correct. Finally I found that the changes applied when I used my laptop and the web based system. The app is nice for turning the guest network on and off and a few other minor features. But as bored I think there is a bug when trying to update the network name and passwords through the app. Other than this, I see this as a good router for the price.

So far so good.
6 December 2023

Day1, pretty easy step-by-step directions w the app. Just use your camera phone to scan the plastic wrapper w the default password on it, then the scan takes you to a link to download the netgear nighthawk app. That Iphone app walks you thru setup, over and done in less than 10minutes.Then just connect your devices. Will see in coming days if it's any better than my older 2016 Linksys router.Def like the phone app, good to see all the connected devices/rename them from the app, run a speed test, etc.Simple enough. I hear wifi 6 is better quality, so we'll see. Glad the setup was streamlined, as I'm not experienced in setting up routers.

This is not a simple plug n play router. After a combined 3-4 hours on the phone with both Netgear, and my Internet Service Provider, the router still did not connect. Somehow, after 2 days of just sitting there, it connected and stayed connected. The only reason I give this a 3 star is because once the router connected, the router does its job. Also, Netgear did provide support; however, I question the experience of the techs as I was put on hold multiple times so the tech could speak with a supervisor. It is also clear that support is an off-shore hub as the language barrier and very broken English was very tough to work with. I want to be clear, this was a Netgear issue, and not an issue with the ISP, or there equipment. Since I called in, Netgear has emailed me ... MoreThis is not a simple plug n play router.
